Paramilitary groups threaten TNA candidates in Batticaloa district

[TamilNet, Saturday, 21 July 2012, 23:19 GMT]
Paramilitary groups operated by the occupying SL military in Batticaloa district have threatened candidates who are being fielded by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in the forthcoming elections to the Eastern Provincial Council. The main doors of the houses of the lead candidate in TNA list for Batticaloa district K.Thurairajasingham and another candidate Indrakumar Prasanna had been padlocked from outside by an unidentified gang on Tuesday night. Both had to complain with the SL Police in Batticaloa to break open the doors to get out.

Thurairajasingham is a former TNA parliamentarian and an Attorney-at-Law. He represented Batticaloa district in parliament from 1989 till 1994. His residence is located along Lake Road in Batticaloa, 15 meters away from the office of the paramilitary group led by former chief minister of the Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan.

The residence of Indrakumar is located at Second Cross Street in Batticaloa city.

Residences of TNA politicians are located in the so-called high security area.

The paramilitary groups led by UPFA politicians and SL military intelligence units have stepped up their harassments on TNA politicians in the districts of Batticaloa and Ampaa'rai since the dissolution of the eastern provincial council.
