UNP wants to erect 1000 Sinhala-Buddhist temples in occupied Tamil country

UNP wants to erect 1000 Sinhala-Buddhist temples in occupied Tamil country

The UNP of the ruling Yahapalanaya alliance, particularly SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, has recently gone on record vowing to erect 1,000 Buddhist temples in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils in the North-East of the island. The agenda is also mentioned in the manifesto of UNP in the run-up to the local elections. The UNP claims as it has managed to allocate 500 million rupees to the programme. The propaganda waged by the UNP and the SLFP in Vavuniyaa has been centred around the theme of SL State sponsorship to Sinhala-Buddhisication of Vavuniyaa and the North. The construction of 1,000 locations for Sinhalicisation in the North-East project is being termed as a ‘reconciliation project’.

Out of the planned 1,000 Buddha temples, 125 will be based in Ki'linochchi, according to the claims by the UNP.

In the meantime, SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, who has been waging propaganda seeking the votes of the Sinhalese for the SLFP, was promising 8 million rupees for the expansion of an educational establishment at the Sinhalicised village of Madu-kanthai in Vavuniyaa.

The UNP policy is nothing else than the so-called ‘Sri Lankan uniformity’ in the constitutional discourse which has been promoted by the Western establishment, commented Tamil activists in Vavuniyaa.

Bogollagama should be stripped of Governor portfolio based on PRECIFAC findings

Bogollagama should be stripped of Governor portfolio based on PRECIFAC findings

Does the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena have the guts to remove the colonial Governor of Eastern Province, Chandrasekara Rohitha Bandara Bogollagama, from his position based on the findings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC), questioned Tamil legal activists from Trincomalee. “The question is whether those who are named by the commission be ever prosecuted in a Court of Law of genocidal Sri Lanka and whether those who are holding key positions under the SL State today step down until their cases are disposed of,” a veteran legal activist from Trincomalee commented.

Mr Bogollagama a was the foreign minister of the SL State during the times of the final war and was working closely with the external actors in the war against the nation of Eezham Tamils.

As the Governor of East, he is collaborating with the external imperial powers as well as with the SL State-sponsored Sinhala Buddhist establishment, which is advancing Sinhalicisation of traditional Tamil villages in the East.

Bogollagama wife, Mrs Deepthi Bogollagama, was recently exposed for her threatening behaviour against Tamil devotees at the hill-top of Maththa’la-malai in the militarized Champoor region in Moothoor East in Trincomalee.

Mr Bogollagama is the 9th party of 13 in the investigation into Rathna Lanka Company Ltd. & Avant Garde Maritime Services Ltd. The Commission has proposed criminal actions to be prosecuted by the SL Attorney General and the Bribery Commission against all the parties.

The PRECIFAC was mainly investigating corporate exploitations connected to South. However, some of the military linked economic abuses connected to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has also focused on Rajapaksa friendly commanders such as Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, the former SL Army Commander of Jaffna for monetary abuses connected to the removal of metal from the KKS cement factory and Major General Palitha Fernando, who headed the SL state-owned Rakna Lanka company.

The PRECIFAC has found evidence of fraud 34 persons including former SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his siblings Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was the Defence Secretary and Basil Rajapaksa the ‘Economic Minister’ of the previous regime.

The findings by the PRECIFAC were handed over to the Secretary General of SL Parliament on the 17th of January 2018.

SL Police, Forest Department connive against Tamil dairy farmers in Batticaloa

SL Police, Forest Department connive against Tamil dairy farmers in Batticaloa

Eight Tamil dairy farmers were ‘arrested’ on Tuesday by the guards of SL Forest Department alleging the former of being in possession of animal traps. The arrest came in the evening just a few hours after the farmers lodged a complaint with the SL Police in Karadiyanaa’ru against animal traps being laid against their cattle in Mayilaththa-madu pasture land area. The SL police told the farmers to remove the traps from the pasture land promising action against those laying the traps, the farmers said after getting released from the SL forest guards.

Seven cattle herders were released at the locality. But, one was taken to the Forest Department office in Araganwila and released on bail.

Aralaganwila is a Sinhalese village on the Polanaruwa district's border with that of the Batticaloa district.

The dairy farmers alleged that the Sinhala police and forest guards of the SL Forest Department run by the occupying unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka are working to chase the Tamil farmers away from the area with the motive of seizing the region for Sinhalicisation in the future.

Tamil dairy farmers have been fighting against Sinhala occupation in the past and succeed to certain extent in containing the colonisers.

But, the ministry of so-called Mahaweli development, which comes under SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, who hails from Polonnaruwa district, is scheming colonisation of Tamil areas in the western hinterland of Batticaloa, which is known as Paduvaan-karai.

Organised rings backed by occupying Colombo exploit natural resources in East

The Sinhala police and the military of occupying Colombo, collaborating with businessmen from South, are exploiting the natural resources of Paduvaan-karai region, where the major cultivable lands of Eezham Tamils in the Batticaloa district are situated. Paduvaan-karai, also known for dairy and cattle farming for decades, is being systematically targeted for Sinhalicisaton and colonisation by the Sinhalese from Polonnaruwa district under the rule of Maithiriapala Sirisena as the president and the minister of Mahaweli ‘development’. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are also backing Sirisena's discriminative ‘development’ programmes under the System B of Mahaweli irrigation scheme. It is under these circumstances, the occupying forces of genocidal Sri Lanka are engaged in plundering the sand and logging trees by harbouring the exploitative rings from the South.

When Paduvaankarai was under the de-facto Tamil Eelam administration of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the past, the environmental department of the civil administration of the LTTE was preserving the jungles for a long time. Now, Muthirai (Satin wood), Paalai (Iron wood) and Veampu (Margosa) trees are being cut in large numbers by the occupying Sinhala establishment.

Overwhelming sand scooping and illegal logging are reported in Poaratheevup-pattu (Vellaa-ve'li), Ma'nmunai South West (Paddip-pazhai), Ma'nmunai West (Vavu'na-theevu), Ea'raavoor-pattu (Chengkaladi), Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) and Koa'ra'laip-pattu South (Kiraan).

The traditional agriculture by the native people in the district, which was in harmony with the environment, is facing a serious challenge as the ecosystem, which was protected from external exploitation, is being compromised, grassroots activists in Batticaloa complain.

The excavated sand is being transported through Polonnaruwa to Colombo. There are also unconfirmed reports of organised rings getting involved in lucrative overseas export of the sand to destinations such as Maldives.

The exploitation is going on unabated day and night in Vakaneri irrigation scheme in Paduvaankarai, 34 km northwest of Batticaloa city.

40 acres of lands have been subjected to worst kind of sand scooping in Pe'nduka'l-cheanai village located in Koa'ra'laip-pattu, concerned civil officials said.

It is under these circumstances, the ‘Polonnaruwa thinking’ of SL President Maithiripala Sirisena is operating against the nation of Eezham Tamils, they commented.

System B is the largest of Mahaweli ‘Development’ programme. It consists of 75,441 ha., including 27,179 ha of irrigable lands in Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts.

Eezham Tamil farmers and fishermen in Batticaloa, facing the crisis in various forms from time to time, feel that they are under a persistent pressure to move away from their areas in the western hinterland of the district.

Paduvaan-karai was under the control of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam during the times of the war and during the ceasefire monitored by the Nordic countries between 2002 and 2006.

Families urge NPC Chief Minister to ensure security of TPPs

Families urge NPC Chief Minister to ensure security of TPPs

The families of Tamil political prisoners languishing in the jails of genocidal Sri Lanka met the Chief Minister of Northern Province Justice C.V. Wigneswaran on Monday, urging him to take up the matter of security of Tamil political prisoners who have been transferred to cells with underground criminals and Sinhala extremists who have earlier assaulted the Tamil prisoners at various prisons. A political prisoner who was earlier released also joined the families to narrate the concerns of TPPs directly to the chief minister, NPC sources in Jaffna said.

In addition to the concerns of security, the Tamil political prisoners are also being exposed and victimised to narcotic culture practiced by the Sinhala underground criminals in Anuradhapura and other prisons, the families complained to Justice Wigneswaran.

Earlier, when NPC councillors and the leaders of Jaffna University Student Union met the SL President during the continuous hunger-strike by the Tamil political prisoners, Mr Maithiripala Sirisena had assured the delegations that the Tamil prisoners would be detained separately away from the criminal prisoners.

Now, the families have urged the NPC Chief Minister to negotiate with the SL President again on their behalf.
