  அவர் நாகர்கோயிலில் தெ.தி.இந்துக்கல்லூரியில் இளநிலை விரிவுரையாளராகப் பணியாற்றிவந்த நேரம்; இலக்குவனார் அங்கே பொறுப்பு முதல்வர்; பாவேந்தர் பாரதிதாசன் அக் கல்லூரி நிகழ்ச்சிக்காக அழைக்கப்பட்டு வந்துள்ளார்; மாலையில்தான் விழா; முற்பகலில் வந்துள்ளார்; இலக்குவனார் பாவேந்தரை அழைத்துக் கொண்டு எல்லா வகுப்பறைகளையும் காண்பித்துத் தமிழ் முதுகலை வகுப்புகளுக்கு மட்டும் உள்ளே அழைத்துச் சென்று ஆசிரியரையும் மாணவர்களையும் அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளார்; அப்போது அக்கல்லூரி கேரளப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் ஆளுகைக்குட்பட்டிருந்தது. இலக்குவனாரின் முயற்சியாலேயே தமிழ் முதுகலை(எம்.ஏ.) வகுப்பு அங்கே  ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

  பாவேந்தரின் 'குடும்ப விளக்கு' என்னும் படைப்பு அம்மாணவர்களுக்குப் பாடாமாக (இலக்குவனார் முயற்சியால்) வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. பாவேந்தர் அவ்வகுப்பில் நுழைந்த பாடவேளை 'குடும்ப விளக்கு' நடத்துதற்குரிய பாடவேளை.அதனை நடத்தும் ஆசிரியர் பா.நமச்சிவாயம்தான். இதனை மகிழ்வோடு பாவேந்தரிடம் கூறினார் இலக்குவனார். மிக இளமைத் தோற்றம் கொண்ட நமச்சிவாயத்தைப் பார்த்துப் பாவேந்தர் கேட்டார், "உமக்குத் திருமணம் ஆகிவிட்டதா?"  அப்போதுதான் புதிதாக வேலையில்

சேர்ந்திருந்த நமச்சிவாயம் அஞ்சியபடியே விடையளித்தார், "இல்லை, ஐயா" 

  அங்கே ஆசிரியரைவிட மூப்பாகத் தெரிந்த மாணவர்களை நோக்கிக் கேட்டார் பாவேந்தர், "உங்களில் யாராவது திருமணமானவர்கள் இருக்கிறீர்களா?"  மூன்றுபேர் கை தூக்கினார்கள். அவர்களைப் பார்த்துப்  பாவேந்தர் கூறினார்: "உங்களில் யாராவது இப்பாடத்தை நடத்துங்கள்."

  இந்நிகழ்ச்சிப் போக்கில் சற்றும் காலத்தாழ்வு செய்யாமல் உடனேயே சீற்றமிக்க  குரலில் இலக்குவனார் பாவேந்தரைப் பார்த்துக் கூறினார்: "என்ன ஐயா, கூறுகிறீர்? இளங்கோ அடிகளும் திருத்தக்கதேவரும் திருமணம் புரிந்துகொண்டா இல்லற இன்பம் பற்றிப் பாடினார்கள்?" மறுகணமே அமைதியான பாவேந்தர் இலக்குவனாருடன் மீண்டும் முதல்வர் அறைக்கே சென்றுவிட்டார். தமது மாணவர்கள் முன்னிலையில் ஆசிரியர் மனங்குன்றிப் போகும்படிச் செய்துவிடக்கூடாது என்பதில் இலக்குவனார் காட்டிய கவனம் இங்குக் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Jayalalithaa expresses shock over Centre's counter affidavit on Kachchatheevu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa registered her disapproval over a counter affidavit filed by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in the Madras High Court that stated that Tamil Nadu fishermen have no traditional fishing rights in the islet of Katchatheevu. In a letter addressed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, the Chief Minister questioned whether this affidavit had been prepared by the earlier UPA regime, and further reiterated her demand for the retrieval of Katchatheevu.

"The unconstitutional ceding of the island and the fishing grounds in the vicinity have emboldened the Sri Lankan Navy to resort to frequent attacks on our innocent fishermen who fish in their traditional fishing grounds," Jayalalithaa said.

The affidavit filed by New Delhi was in response to a Public Interest Litigation filed by Fisherman Care, a Tamil Nadu organisation, demanding the retrieval of the islet.

The counter affidavit of the Indian Centre stated that the Indo-Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) was ‘permanent’ and that Katchatheevu belonged to ‘Sri Lanka’.

In her letter to Modi, Ms Jayalalithaa urged the Indian Central Government to file an "appropriately revised affidavit" in the Court.

Intellectual failure continues helping genocidal Sri Lanka in twisting case

The failure of international intellectuals preoccupied with Middle East, Latin America and Russia, in spelling out and highlighting the singular and precarious civilizational paradigm that is currently experimented by world imperialisms through the genocidal State of Sri Lanka, continues to help the ‘eel-diplomacy’ of the State in justifying itself and the agenda of its imperial masters, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island, responding to a recent article by Noam Chomsky. The article by Chomsky this week effectively exposes the US imperialism, but absence of exposure of the ‘Sri Lanka’ model help the State to put on ‘nationalist’ garb to smokescreen the genocidal engineering of imperialism in a paradigm-setting part of the world, the activists said.

Further comments from the Tamil activists for alternative politics:

Chomsky, in his article exposing the working of the US imperialism, was talking on what the USA did to former Soviet Union, present Russia, Cuba, Chile, Panama, Latin America, El Salvador, Israel-Egypt, East Germany, Mexico, Guatemala, Central America, Yemen, Vietnam, Indonesia and touched on Syria, Crimea and even Somalia. On earlier occasions he wrote on Iraq and Afghanistan.

A part of the article was discussing how the USA was working against nationalism in cases such as Chile, Vietnam and Egypt, and generally in the cases of Latin America, Central America and Middle East. Explaining the US support to Saudi Arabia, Chomsky said, “that the U.S., like England before it, has tended to support radical fundamentalist Islam in opposition to secular nationalism, which has usually been perceived as posing more of a threat of independence and contagion.”

Many political observers point out that the national question of genocide-affected Eezham Tamils not being in the radar or priority list of the ‘intellectual imperialism’ of the opinion-making calibre is the curse the Eezham Tamils continue to suffer with.

The genocidal State of Sri Lanka makes the best use of the lacuna, to come out with an ‘eel-diplomacy’ in which it shows ‘nationalism’ and State sovereignty to get the support of the non-US bloc, but fast converts the State into a lascarin military one to serve the ultimate agenda with which the US-led bloc designed and directed the genocidal war in the island.

The weakness of the genocidal Sinhala State that it is prepared to give anything to anybody for not giving anything to Eezham Tamils, and the weakness of the nation of Eezham Tamils that it should continue to look upon the very perpetrators of its genocide, as its case is drowned in the din of issues important to those who ring global alarm bells, are well known to imperialisms that imperceptibly have their ways in the island.

The strategic partnership of New Delhi with Washington in the genocidal solution to the national question of Eezham Tamils is another reason why many intellectuals forget the strategic island where a paradigm setting experiment is taking place to ‘end human civilisation’.

Omission is sometimes the most damaging factor, and Obama in his foreign policy speech last month and Chomsky in his present article make no difference to Eezham Tamils in this respect.

Last month, in a ‘Sri Lanka – Vietnam Friendship Association’ meeting in Colombo, the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, supported the case of Vietnam against China over South China Sea.

Warning Sri Lanka in the meeting, a lawyer Premadasa Dissanayake said that Sri Lanka currently faces a Vietnam-like situation, “where Tamil Nadu state in India, a much more powerful neighbor was making statements about the Kachchathivu islands, where the territory had already been resolved through a treaty,” Lankabusinessonline cited the lawyer.

"If the island is taken by force by India, if they send large ships, we will be in the same situation as Vietnam,” Dissanayake was further cited.

The uninhabited island is in traditional Tamil waters. The genocidal Sinhala military occupying the country of Eezham Tamils has already converted the adjacent island Delft into a half Sinhala one, knocking at the doors of Tamil Nadu.

The Vietnam campaign is another example of the eel-diplomacy emanating from Colombo that also woos Latin America.

The experience of Eezham Tamils is that Vietnam and Israel make no difference to them, as both have forgotten their history in showing justice to the genocide-affected nation of Eezham Tamils.

Perhaps, it is this global trend of States and Establishments that disappoints humanity more than the expected behaviour of US imperialism. The USA is not alone in ‘ending human civilisation’. Discourses may have to transcend confinement to States to do justice to stateless nations, 99 per cent of humanity ruled by one per cent, and discourses may also have to come out of the priorities and preoccupations of the West, the Tamil activists for alternative politics said.

Chomsky’s excellent analysis on the working of the US imperialism should be read especially by the Eezham Tamil diaspora, particularly to ponder why the singular injustice committed on their nation by a US-led mobilisation and continued deception are not making even a mention in a global analysis, and how Colombo successfully seizes the lacuna to pretend itself a crusader of ‘nationalism’ and ‘State sovereignty’ in the eyes of the alternative world, the activists further commented.

Australia plays with lives of 153 Tamil refugees

There have been reports that 153 Tamil asylum seekers fleeing from the island of Sri Lanka might have been handed over by Australia to the genocidal Sri Lanka Navy. While there is an information blackout on the fate of the refugees, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has refused to comment on the situation. "I'm not going to comment on the operational detail of what happens on the water," he told ABC radio on Tuesday. Further, Tamil activists working on refugee issues say that they have lost all contact with this batch of asylum seekers over 3 days back.

There are about 30 children on the boat.

"Australia would ‘flagrantly’ violate the refugee convention if 153 Tamil asylum seekers on board a boat headed to Australia were sent to Sri Lanka without being allowed to lodge a claim for protection", The Guardian cited the Refugee Council of Australia on Tuesday.

Tamil activists from Australia lamented the lackadaisical approach of diaspora organizations both in Australia and in other Western countries in challenging the foreign policies of Western governments that aided and abetted genocidal Sri Lanka by open or covert means. The refugee issue cannot be seen in isolation from the structural process, they said.

Seychelles strengthens ties with genocidal Sri Lanka

A delegation led by genocide-accused President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa met Seychelles President James Michel on Saturday at the Seychhellian capital Victoria and the two have vowed to strengthen diplomatic and political ties. While the Rajapaksa has opened up a Sri Lankan High Commission at Victoria, Seychelles also plans to open up its diplomatic office in Colombo in this year. “Seychelles will become the gateway for Sri Lanka into Africa and Sri Lanka will be a gateway for Seychelles into Asia,” Seychelles News Agency quoted the Designated Minister of that country Vincent Meriton in a report on Sunday.

The two countries have also signed a joint commission on bilateral cooperation.

Earlier this month, on Seychelles National Day on 18 June, US Secretary of State John Kerry had conveyed his hope that Seychelles would play an active role in "promoting stability throughout the Indian Ocean region".

After Maldives, Seychelles is yet another small island of strategic significance, that is in the radar of US, India and China, to come out in explicit support of Sri Lanka.

Tamils of Tamil Nadu origin form a minority in the islands of Seychelles. They were taken there in the British colonial period.

Colombo should allow UN's independent investigations: NYT editorial

Condemning Sri Lanka's violence against the Muslim community, the New York Times editorial Friday, while noting that "[h]ate-mongering Buddhist extremists in Sri Lanka have set off the country’s worst wave of anti-Muslim violence in years," admonished Colombo that "He [Rajapakse] should move immediately to allow the independent investigation called for by the United Nations; accept the technical assistance offered by the council to address human rights concerns; and put in place the recommendations of Sri Lanka’s own Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission for dealing with the aftermath of the civil war."

Hate-mongering Buddhist extremists in Sri Lanka have set off the country’s worst wave of anti-Muslim violence in years. A bloody rampage on June 15 in and near the southern city of Aluthgama left four Muslims dead, at least 78 people injured, and Muslim homes and businesses destroyed. The attacks followed an anti-Muslim rally organized by the Bodu Bala Sena, which roughly translates as Buddhist Power Force, an ultranationalist group linked to the governing Rajapaksa family. Tensions remain high.

This latest round of attacks against one of Sri Lanka’s minority communities underscores the urgent need to shed a bright light on the relationship between the hard-line Bodu Bala Sena, Sri Lankan security forces and the Rajapaksas.

Following global condemnation of his government’s inability to rein in the Bodu Bala Sena and prevent the June 15 attacks, President Mahinda Rajapaksa toured the afflicted area, while his government promised the United Nations Human Rights Council that it would conduct an investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. Whether it will do so is an open question in view of its refusal to allow an investigation into allegations of human rights abuses during the recent civil war as called for in a resolution by the council on March 27.

The president has good reason to be concerned — and to act. Among other things, the violence threatens Sri Lanka’s recovering tourism industry and business development directly tied to members of his family. The violence elicited rare criticism in Sri Lanka’s press of the government’s failure to protect the Muslim minority. And Sri Lanka’s justice minister, one of the country’s most senior Muslim officials, Rauf Hakeem, publicly lamented the government’s failure to prevent the attacks.

Most Sri Lankans, including the overwhelming Buddhist majority, want nothing to do with the Bodu Balu Sena. Sri Lanka needs healing. Mr. Rajapaksa’s statements on Monday directing the police to act against any individual or group fomenting ethnic or religious hatred are welcome. But the president did not repudiate the Bodu Bala Sena by name. He should move immediately to allow the independent investigation called for by the United Nations; accept the technical assistance offered by the council to address human rights concerns; and put in place the recommendations of Sri Lanka’s own Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission for dealing with the aftermath of the civil war.

Only these tangible steps will allow Sri Lanka to move forward toward reconciliation and justice for all Sri Lankans.

Kurds make strategic gains in Iraq crisis

While the recent crisis in Iraq created by activities of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has placed the US-trained Iraqi Army in a critical situation, the Kurds have achieved some significant militarily and politically strategic gains. While the Kurdish 'Peshmerga', the armed forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government of the northern part of Iraq, have beaten back heavily armed Islamist militants of the ISIS, they have simultaneously captured regions that the Iraqi government was unwilling to concede earlier. Recognizing the potential of the Kurdish advancements, Israel had advised the US on Thursday that Kurdistan was a "foregone conclusion".

Israeli experts have further said that Israel would be quick to recognize a Kurdish state should it emerge, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Turkey, which has its own problems with the PKK-led Kurdish resistance, has also reluctantly conveyed its support for Kurdistan gaining independence from Iraq.

The Kurds have also been defiant in stating to the pro-US Nouri al-Maliki government of Iraq that they would not step back on the territorial gains that they have made in this crisis.

Isaippiriyaa remembered in Tamil Nadu as icon of Tamil resistance

Activists across Tamil Nadu gathered at the city of Mathurai on the occasion of 'International Day in Support of Victims of Torture' on Thursday, paying tribute to slain LTTE media specialist Shoba alias Isaippiriyaa and thousands like her, who faced torture, abuse and death at the hands of Colombo’s genocidal military. Condemning the section of personalities within the UN and the international Establishments for their complicity in Tamil genocide, the Tamil Nadu activists further asserted that a sovereign Tamil Eelam alone was the remedy for the injustice and crimes committed against Eezham Tamils.

Hundreds of Tamil activists gathered at Meenaakshi Bazar in Mathurai to remember the Eezham Tamils who suffered and who continue to endure abuse and torture by the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka.

The activists held placards asserting that Tamil Eelam is the only remedy for the victims of genocide.

Instead of considering Isaippiriyaa and those like her as mere victims of war-crimes, the activists in Tamil Nadu have chosen to remember them as icons of Tamil resistance against genocide.

Posters about the event also drew parallels between Isaipiriyaa and Ka’n’naki, the protagonist of the Chilappathikaaram epic belonging to the first half of first millennium AD.

The iconographic representation of Ka'n'naki was later evolved into goddess Paththini. The Tamil literary heritage, right from the times of Chilappathikaaram, has a long tradition in making epics out of tragedies, political injustices and social injustices.
