Colombo restricts dual citizenship as part of structural genocide
As a part of the multi-pronged structural genocide of Eezham Tamils carried out with the abetment of India and the US, the Sinhala agent regime in Colombo decided last week to manipulate granting dual citizenship to the diaspora. According to a Colombo cabinet decision on 16 June, any diaspora member obtained citizenship of another country and wishes to maintain links with his home country has to first register for ‘Overseas Sri Lankan’ status and has to wait for a 5-year probation period of scrutiny and ‘pre-examination’. But if the person is considered ‘beneficial to national interest’ the SL president could directly grant dual citizenship to that person. As the bulk of the diaspora consists of Eezham Tamils, the new decision is aimed at further subordination of them to the genocidal State.Comments from a new generation Tamil political activist in the island:
While Colombo conceives a long-term strategy of keeping away the Eezham Tamil diaspora from its country in the island by such regulations and intimidation-aimed killings of diaspora returnees claiming properties, the presidential progeny Namal Rajapaksa is engaged in trafficking asylum seekers for the dual purpose of making money as well as getting rid of Tamils from the island.
Colombo is not the only regime that follows a systematic policy against Eezham Tamils. New Delhi has been doing it for a long time.
Around 100,000 Eezham Tamils in the camps and more than that number registered outside, are living in India as refugees without any international status. Many of them live under the conditions without basic rights for property, employment etc., for well over quarter a century.
The People of Indian Origin (PIO) Status is granted to anyone married to an Indian, but not to people from the island of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This discrimination on the people from the island of Sri Lanka is especially targeted against the Eezham Tamils.
While subjugation and annihilation of the nation of Eezham Tamils seems to be the ultimate policy, New Delhi now acquires enclaves in Trincomalee and KKS in the country of Eezham Tamils.
Both India and the US back the Sinhala military and the genocidal state in Colombo in planning and building new ‘military cities’ in Trincomalee and KKS, as well as in Vanni. The provincial administrations in the North and East that are conceived as ‘lasting solution’ to Eezham Tamils, are actually to serve as ‘service administrations’ to the imperialist model experimented in the island over the genocide of Eezham Tamils.
The diaspora activists enticed by the US-India hoax at the UNHRC are yet to be awakened in mobilising the masses for a struggle to be addressed where it has to be actually addressed in appropriate ways.
Genuine reconciliation comes only when New Delhi and Washington mend their ways has to be understood both in Tamil Nadu and in the diaspora.
