TNA loses the best opportunity to be forthright: Tamil Nadu reader

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 09 November 2011, 05:50 GMT]
“You are leaving us confused back here in Tamil Nadu,” especially when we “do not see India doing the right thing in Sri Lanka,” says a TamilNet reader in Chennai in sending a feedback responding to TNA leader Sampanthan’s current political stand. “The best opportunity to be forthright was lost by him,” the reader said in the feedback Tuesday. “An unclear goal and actions will not lead anyone anywhere. The kind of statements that Mr Sampanthan makes is making it difficult even for supporters of Eelam in Tamil Nadu to take a stand. No matter what you do, i.e., even if you act to please the power, New Delhi does not care. It is better to catch it by its collar and put it to shame. The result will only be the same. It would be in our best interest to look after our interests ourselves rather than waiting for someone else to look after us, the reader further said.

Full text of the feedback from the reader, to the feature “TNA relays US-India paradigm for ‘nondescript’ model of solutions,” appeared in TamilNet on Monday:

I am a Tamil writing from Chennai, a native of Tamil Nadu.

I am as much puzzled, as perhaps are TamilNet staff over Mr Sampanthan's "faith" in international powers including India in finding a solution for Eelam Tamils.

Here in Tamil Nadu, we have been seeing TNA as a representative of LTTE, an organization whose commitment as far as I see to the cause of the suffering Tamils remains unquestionable to this day.

Some of us who have been following on the Lankan Tamil problem do not have faith over international powers acting beyond their selfishness and seeing what is correct and doing the same in Sri Lanka.

We especially do not see India doing the right thing in Sri Lanka.

The kind of statements that Mr Sampanthan leaves wherever he travels leaves us Tamils here confounded.

I have also seen Mr Sampanthan's statements to Headlines Today when they aired the Channel Four video and did a follow up.

I thought the best opportunity to be forthright was lost by him with his soft-pedalling. I thought it was due to the situation back in Sri Lanka. But this repeated statements of reposing faith upon international powers is getting rather stale.

It reminds me of the time when Karunanidhi was in power in TN. A lot of Eelam supporters pinned hope of him for acting in the right time on the issue. But our hopes were belied.

A similar situation is unwrapping itself in SL, as I see it. This faith in International powers is not producing any results.

Talks with the Sri Lankan government is turning out to be nothing but is a ritual which for some strange reason the TNA wants to continue again.

What I see from here is nothing but a lot of muddled politicking in SL with no foresight of where one wants to go.

An unclear goal and actions will not lead anyone anywhere.

The kind of statements that Mr Sampanthan makes is making it difficult even for supporters of Eelam in Tamil Nadu to take a stand.

Mr Sampanthan's speech in New Delhi at an ORF organized meeting was worse. None of the pertinent issues were taken up and Sampanthan must have held a mirror to India too on its conduct even if he is a guest in New Delhi.

No matter what you do, i.e., even if you act to please the power, New Delhi does not care. It is better to catch it by its collar and put it to shame. The result will only be the same.

While India is muddled in its head, other countries of might have their own interests to look after.

It would be in our best interest to look after our interests ourselves rather than waiting for someone else to look after us.

At least there must be some fresh thoughts on those lines. Unleashing Mr Sampanthan with his pussy footing is only going to confuse everyone including us in TN.

TNA Please take a direction. You are leaving us confused back here in TN.
