Money allocated to prevent attacks by wild elephants didn't reach Batticaloa

At least 27 people have been slain by wild elephants that have been brought from South into the jungles in Batticaloa district by Colombo government's Department of Wildlife Conservation after the entire district has been brought under the SL military control, according to District Secretariat sources. In the meantime, money allocated for protective measures against the wild elephants by the SL Economic Development Ministry of the previous regime, has not reached the district, TNA parliamentarian P. Selvarasa has complained to the SL Government Agent in Batticaloa.
90 million rupees were allocated by the Economic Development Ministry under Basil Rajapaksa to address the problem prevailing in several districts in the island. One million rupees were allocated to each division affected by wild elephants.
8 divisions in Batticaloa district were identified as vulnerable divisions. Some records state that 8 million rupees were allocated to address the problem in Batticaloa district while other records state 9 million rupees were to be spent in the district, the TNA MP said adding that nothing of the allocated money had reached the district.
More than one hundred houses and large extents of vegetation belonging to Eezham Tamils in the district have been destroyed in the recent past.
The SL Department of Wildlife Conservation was deployed to carry out Sinhalicisation in several districts in the Eastern and Northern Provinces with a genocidal intent and the Sinhala officials attached to the department were collaborating with the occupying SL military and the department of archaeology in seizing the lands of Eezham Tamils.
