[TamilNet, Wednesday, 18 March 2015, 22:02 GMT]
Northern provincial councillors Ananthy Sasitharan, M.K. Shivajilingam and TNPF Leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam addressed the press at the Geneva Press Club on Tuesday, briefing the audience on the various aspects of the structural genocide targeting the Eezham Tamil nation, which continued unabated despite the internationally orchestrated ‘regime change’ hatching Maithriplala Sirisena as the SL president. The Tamil politicians from the homeland also said that the procrastination in delivering justice to Tamils on the part of the international community in the deferral of the OISL report only emboldened the Sri Lankan State in its crimes against Tamils. Human rights activist and one of the judges in the People’s Tribunal on Sri Lanka, Maung Zarini also addressed the audience together with Tamil diaspora activists Sivakami Rajamanoharan from the UK and R Sri Ranjan from Canada.

NPC councillor Mrs Ananthy Sasitharan speaking on various aspects of the structural genocide stated that the Sri Lankan military has taken a large number of Tamil children secretly through Oamanthai checkpost in Vavuniyaa to the Sinhala South in the past. These underage youth have been subjected to intense assimilation programs by the SL State, she said. They have been indoctrinated with Sinhala language and converted to Buddhism. Tamil families are not able to locate their children, she said.

The councillor also raised the plight of the thousands of Tamil political prisoners languishing in unlawful detention throughout the island and subjected to torture and sexual violence from the Sinhala guards and inmates.

Mrs. Sasitharan concluded by saying “to explain the various issues faced by our people, a few minutes given here will not be sufficient, it demands days to articulate upon the various aspects of the structural genocide against the Tamils.”

NPC councillor Mr Shivajilingam presented the NPC resolution on Genocide, and quoted from it regarding the role of Maithripala Sirisena as acting defence minister during the final weeks of the genocidal war. Likewise, one of the main accused for Genocide, former Army commander Sarath Fonseka has been installed as advisor on defence to the new regime, he said.

TNPF leader Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam spoke on the political ideology behind the SL State enacted genocide targeting the Eezham Tamil nation. If one does not properly understand the context in which these acts are being committed, it will be difficult for outsiders to comprehend that the SL state is actually carrying out a protracted genocide, he said.

Mr. Ponnambalam explained that the Sinhala elite, and by extension the Sinhala people at large, subscribe to the Mahavamsa doctrine, which forms the basis of the Sinhala-Buddhist nationalist ideology, which is adopted by the SL State. This doctrine has been motivating and legitimizing violence against the national characteristics of the Tamil nation, he said.

He also reiterated that Tamil nationhood and the facilitation of Tamils right to Self-determination were the basis to find a political solution to the Tamil national question and to arrest the ongoing structural genocide. Illuminating the Sinhala leadership intransigence in accommodating Tami rights and justice, he pointed out how the new regime promised to protect the military and the previous heads of state, responsible for systematic crimes against Tamils, in order to retain political power among the Sinhala people.

The TNPF leader questioned the wisdom of the deferral of the OISL report till September and said it will only aid Sri Lankan in giving time and space in carrying out its genocidal project. The UN Establishment has borrowed the prism of the Sinhala population in the South in the interpretation of the so-called positive climate following the regime change.

If the international community is committed as they claim in delivering political and legal justice to the Eezham Tamils, then an international independent investigation into the crimes of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity should be initiated without delay, he said.

Moreover to allow the Tamils to practice their historical self-determination and their earned sovereignty, a referendum on Tamil nationhood and political future should be initiated without delay, he said.

Dr Maung Zarini replying to question from the press elucidated the linkages between Sinhala nationalism, Buddhism and the SL State in indoctrinating the genocidal intent against Eelam Tamils through controlling the public opinion in the South.

He drew on parallels between the Burmese state, Arakine, Rakhine and Bamar Buddhist (the Burmese Buddhist nation) and the Sri Lankan State and Sinhala Buddhists in pursuing genocidal projects to create a Buddhist nation through exterminating or silencing Eezham Tamils and the Rohinyga Muslims.
