CELESTIAL BODIES
In the chapters from 32 to 35 the author has eleborately
explained the celestial bodies depicted in sangam literature.
The
author has revealed the profound knowledge of the Moon, Mercury, Venus and the
Sun, our ancestors of the Sangam age had.
For
example, the Tamils named the moon according to its daty to day appearance lkie
Niṟaimati, tēymati, veḷḷuvā, kāruvā, vaḷarmati, piṟaimati, eṭṭām nāḷ tiṅkaḷ,
maṟukkoṇṭa mati, aravu vāy mati, vaikaṟai mati, pakka mati, kuḻavit tiṅkaḷ,
tiṅkaḷ kuḻavi and mati arumpu.
KNOWLEDGE OF ELEPHANT
The author has revealed the vast knowlede
of the elephant, which the old Tamils had, in the chapter No.36.
Piṅkala nikaṇṭu
(thesaurus) tells 45 names for elephant.
There are names for
every part of the body of the elephant in Tamil. But in other languages there
are names for only some parts of the body.

of the elephant - taḷavu

of the elephant – Aparam

of the elephant - Matakam / Matakam / Kumpam
Just
in Nūṟpā 2413-2448 there are many vocabulary regarding zoological science.
KNOWLEDGE OF FOOT WEARS
In the chapter No. 37 the author
explained the different types of footwears as Ceruppu, toṭutōl, aṭiputai araṇam, Aṭaiyal, kaḻal,
kuttic ceruppu, kuṟaṭṭuc ceruppu, tōṟparam, naṭaiyaṉ, mitiyaṭi, pātukai,pāval,
pātakkāppu, and aṭi puṇai tōl . For
example:
Toṭutōl kāṉavaṉ - forest
dweller wearing leather slippers : Akanānūru
