Senior Jaffna reporter Navaratnarajah passes away

61-year-old N. Navaratnarajah (Navam GS) from Mallaakam in Jaffna, who briefly served in TamilNet as a reporter for Jaffna during the turbulent times in the past, has passed away in the early hours of Tuesday due to heart attack at the Teaching Hospital in Jaffna. Mr Navaratnarajah was a Village Officer (GS), a committed social activist and was engaged in news reporting as a freelance journalist for at least 2 decades. Despite his busy schedule, Mr Navaratnarajah remained committed as a full time journalist, working for Uthayan, Chudar-O'li, Veerakesari, Tamil Mirror and to certain Tamil language websites for a long time. He was born on 14 April, 1954.

Mr Navaratnarajah has been ill for
four months after a motorbike accident. He was admitted to Jaffna
hospital as his health condition worsened on Monday and underwent a
surgery.
Navaratnarajah was a former LTTE member who was associated with G. Mahendrarajah alias Mathaya and was briefly detained by the intelligence wing of the LTTE during the controversy surrounding Mathaya in 1993.
After leaving the LTTE, Navam entered the field of journalism and remained committed to the cause of Eezham Tamils till his tragic demise.
As a Village Officer and a journalist reporting on the genocidal crimes of the occupying SL State, he remained committed to helping the people with a friendly attitude.
‘Navam GS’ as he was popularly called, will be remembered for his fearless reporting during the challenging times in Jaffna under the occupation of Sri Lankan military.
Navam's funeral is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
