Families urge NPC Chief Minister to ensure security of TPPs
The families of Tamil political prisoners languishing in the jails of genocidal Sri Lanka met the Chief Minister of Northern Province Justice C.V. Wigneswaran on Monday, urging him to take up the matter of security of Tamil political prisoners who have been transferred to cells with underground criminals and Sinhala extremists who have earlier assaulted the Tamil prisoners at various prisons. A political prisoner who was earlier released also joined the families to narrate the concerns of TPPs directly to the chief minister, NPC sources in Jaffna said.
In addition to the concerns of security, the Tamil political prisoners are also being exposed and victimised to narcotic culture practiced by the Sinhala underground criminals in Anuradhapura and other prisons, the families complained to Justice Wigneswaran.
Earlier, when NPC councillors and the leaders of Jaffna University Student Union met the SL President during the continuous hunger-strike by the Tamil political prisoners, Mr Maithiripala Sirisena had assured the delegations that the Tamil prisoners would be detained separately away from the criminal prisoners.
Now, the families have urged the NPC Chief Minister to negotiate with the SL President again on their behalf.
