SL Governor condemned for justifying military-run preschools in Vanni

[TamilNet, Sunday, 08 May 2016, 22:55 GMT]
NGO sources in Vanni recently released photos exposing the SL military-run preschools where Tamil children were being made to wear ‘Civil Security Division’ uniforms with CSD and Lion symbols of the occupying Sri Lankan military. More than 8,000 Tamil children are attending the military-run preschools in Vanni at 270 locations. While the SL military is refusing to hand over the administration of these preschools to the provincial council, the SL Governor to North, Reginald Cooray, has rushed to Vanni last week to justify continued military administration of these preschools. Former LTTE members at three different locations were forced to sing ‘Sri Lanka’ anthem in Sinhala and the CSD women had to garland him after dancing in Kandyan Perhara style, news sources in Vanni said. NPC Minister P. Aingaranesan has condemned SL Governor's description of SL military as a ‘development’ agency.

The Tamil preschool teachers employed by the SL military were also summoned to the ‘welcoming events’ in their usual blue saree uniforms.

There are around 10,000 former LTTE members who have been employed at SL military run farms in Vanni.

The SL Governor was visiting Poonakari, Ki'linochchi and Visuvamadu where the CSD and preschool teachers had to stage welcome events.

The SL Governor, a Sinhala Catholic, has been the active promoter of channelling funds to establish Buddhist temples in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils. He is also blamed for deploying a Tamil Catholic priest to ‘convince’ the Tamil landowners to sell their occupied lands at Kokku'laay to construct a Buddhist Vihara.

Reginal Cooray was campaigning among the enslaved CSD ‘personnel’ that the SL military was doing ‘development’ in North.

The SL military was not an oppressive force, but a development force and it should be deployed more into development activities to the benefit of the people in the Northern Province Mr Cooray was telling the audience.

NPC Minister of Agriculture and Environment has condemned the characterisation of SL military as a development force by the SL Governor.

The SL Governor was trying to justify the continued militarisation of North where more than 150,000 SL military personnel are stationed, the NPC minister said.

Regardless of the change of regimes in Colombo, the Sinhala unitary system is continuing the cultural and structural genocide of Eezham Tamils through militarisation and Sinhalisiation coming through military run farms, preschools and the continued military maintenance of former LTTE members, Tamil civil sources in Ki'linochchi said.
