Sivakaran released on surety bond
[TamilNet, Thursday, 28 April 2016, 13:42 GMT]
V.S. Sivakaran, the outspoken critic of genocidal Colombo and the secretary of ITAK Youth Wing, who also runs a Tamil weekly from Mannaar, was released Thursday on surety bond by the Magistrates Court at Chaavakachcheari, 24 hours after the notorious ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) arrested him at his paper office in Mannaar on Wednesday.
The TID ‘operation’ against Sivakaran was an attempt to contain political mobilisation of Eezham Tamils. The TID was trying to suppress crticism against Colombo regime, commented journalists in Jaffna who met Mr Sivakaran at Chaavakachcheari on Thursday.
A ‘travel ban’ has been imposed on Sivakaran for 6 months.
If he has to travel abroad, he should secure clearance from the TID providing ‘valid’ reasons, news sources in Jaffna said. Sivakaran has also been instructed to present himself in person every last Sunday at Mannaar Police to prove his presence, according to the surety bail.
The arrest came after Sivakaran voiced against the arbitrary and wanton arrests being carried out by the SL Defence Ministry operated TID in the North and East during the past 30 days.
