பிரன்லால் பட்டேல் என்ற 103 அகவை ஒளிப்படக்கலைஞர்.

கடந்த 28 ஆம் தேதி டில்லியில் நடைபெற்ற 2011- 12 ம் ஆண்டிற்கான தேசிய புகைப்பட விருது வழங்கும் விழாவில், ஒருவருக்கு வாழ்நாள் சாதனையாளர் விருதினை சபாநாயகர் மீரா குமார் வழங்கியபோது மொத்த அரங்கமே எழுந்துநின்று கைதட்டியது.

அவர்தான் 103 வயதாகும் பிரன்லால் பட்டேல்.

குஜராத் மாநிலம்ஆமதமாபாத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பிரன்லால் பட்டேல், இருபது வயதாகும் போது அவர் ஆசிரியராக வேலை பார்த்த பள்ளி ஒன்றின் மூலையில் தொங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த" பாக்ஸ் டைப்' கேமிராவைத் தொட்டுப்பார்த்து இருக்கிறார்.

அப்போது இவரது மேலதிகாரி, "உனக்கு அதைப்பற்றி என்ன தெரியும், பேசாமல் வை' என்று சொல்லியுள்ளார். இந்த வார்த்தை அவரை உசுப்பேற்றிவிடவே சொந்தமாக ஒரு "பாக்ஸ் கேமிரா' வாங்கி படம் எடுக்கத் துவங்கினார்.

கொஞ்ச நாளில் புகைப்படம் எடுப்பது பிடித்துப் போகவே ஆசிரியர் வேலையை விட்டுவிட்டு முழுநேர புகைப்படக்கலைஞரானார்.

இவர் காலத்தில் "பிளாஷ் லைட்' என்ற ஒன்றே கிடையாது, இவர்தான் முதன்முதலாக செயற்கை வெளிச்சம் தரும் "பிளாஷ் லைட் 'கருவியை வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து தருவித்து மன்னர் ஒருவரின் திருமணத்தை எடுத்திருக்கிறார். அதன் பிறகே "பிளாஷ் லைட்டின்' உபயோகம் பரவலானது.

தான் பிறந்து வளர்ந்த ஆமதாபாத்தை பெரிதும் நேசிக்கக் கூடியவரான இவர் எடுத்த பழைய ஆமதாபாத், சபர்மதிகரையோர படங்கள்தான், இப்போதும் பராம்பரிய படங்களாக, பலரது வீடுகள், ஒட்டல்கள், அலுவலகங்களை அலங்கரித்து வருகிறது. பழைய ஆமதாபாத் எப்படி இருக்கும் என்பதை தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டுமானால் அதற்கு இவரது படங்கள் மட்டுமே இன்றும் சான்றாக விளங்குகிறது.

ரயில் என்பது அபூர்வமான, வேடிக்கையான பொருளாக கருதப்பட்ட காலத்தில், இவர் எடுத்த ரயில் தொடர்பான படங்கள் இப்போதும் எப்போதும் ரசனையை தருபவையாகும்.

இவர் எடுத்த படங்கள் பத்திரிகைகளில் பிரசுரமாகி இருந்தாலும், இவருக்கு பத்திரிகையின் பரபரப்பு ஒத்துவராததால் வர்த்தக ரீதியிலான புகைப்படக் கலைஞராகவே இருந்துவிட்டார்.

ஆமதபாத்திற்கு பிறகு காஷ்மீர் இவருக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த இடம். கேமிரா தொழில்நுட்பம் வளரும் போதெல்லாம் அதனை செயல்படுத்திப் பார்க்க இவர் செல்லும் இடம் காஷ்மீர்தான்.

அப்போது இருந்த அமைதி, பசுமையான சுற்றுச்சுழல், நெருக்கடியில்லாத போக்குவரத்து, குறைந்த மக்கள் தொகை, வறட்சியில்லாத பூமி, வளமான, இனிய, எளிய, பொறுமையான மக்கள் என தான் வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் அனுபவித்த ஒவ்வொன்றும் சொர்க்கமானவை என்று நினைவு கூறுகிறார். இந்த தலைமுறையினர் மட்டுமல்ல இனி எந்த தலைமுறையினருக்கு அந்த இனிய தருணங்கள் கிடைக்காது என்று எண்ணும்போது வருத்தமாகவே இருக்கிறது என்று சொல்லும் பிரன்லால் படேலின் மகன், பேரன் உள்ளிட்ட இவரது குடும்பத்தார் பலரும் புகைப்படத் தொழிலில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தாலும், இப்போதும் தனக்கு பிரியமான படங்களை எடுக்க விரும்பினால், தனக்கான கேமிராவை தூக்கிக்கொண்டு படம் எடுக்க கிளம்பிவிடுவார்.

வயது, உடம்பிலும், முகத்திலும் மட்டுமே சுருக்கம் ஏற்படுத்துமே தவிர மனதில் அல்ல. மிதமான உணவு, யோகா, மூச்சுப்பயிற்சி தவிர பெரிதாக நான் ஒன்றும் என் உடம்பிற்காக மெனக்கெடுவது இல்லை.
யார் ஒருவர் தன் செய்யும் தொழிலை நேசமுடன் செய்கிறார்களோ அவர்களுக்கு சோர்வும் கிடையாது, தோல்வியும் கிடையாது என்று சொன்ன பிரண்லால் பட்டேல் இன்னும் பல ஆண்டுகாலம் வாழ வாழ்த்துவோம்

அமெரிக்காவில் பிறந்து குழந்தையிலேயே காதுகேற்கும் திறனையும், வாய்பேசும் திறனையும் இழந்த ஹெலன் கில்லர் என்ற பெண்மணி தனது 24வயதில் பட்டம் பெற்றார். உலகிலேயே இதுபோன்ற குறைகளை வைத்துகொண்டு, படித்து பட்டம் பெற்ற முதல் நபர் இவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அதனால் தான் இவருடைய பெயரிலேயே ஹெலன் கில்லர் விருது  வழங்குகிறது. தென்றல் தொலைக்காட்சி.

இந்த ஆண்டு முதல் இந்த விருதினை வழங்கும் தென்றல் தொலைக்காட்சி இனி ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் இதே பெயரில், இதுபோன்ற சிறப்பு குழந்தைகளுக்கும் , அவர்களுக்கு  ஆசிரியர் சேவை செய்பவர்களுக்கும  விருதினை வழங்க இருக்கிறது. இந்த விருதுடன் அவர்களுக்கு பரிசு தொகையாக பணம் முடிப்பும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த முதலாம் ஆண்டு விருது வழங்கும் விழா வரும் செப்டம்பர் 24ஆம் தேதி சென்னை, காமராஜர் அரங்கில் மாலை 4 மணிக்கு நடைபெறுகிறது. இதில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக மத்திய அமைச்சர் ஜெகத் ரட்சகன் கலந்துகொள்கிறார். மேலும் திரையுலக நட்சத்திரங்கள் உள்ளிட்ட பல் துறை  பிரபலங்கள் இந்த விருது வழங்கும் விழாவில் கலந்துகொள்கிறார்கள். இதை தென்றல் தொலைக்காட்சியின் முதன்மை மேலாளர் செழியன் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் மற்றும் முதன்மை மார்கெட்டிங் மேலாளார் உதயகுமார் இருவரும் பத்திரிகையாளர்களிடம் தெரிவித்தார்கள். இந்த விருது வழங்கும் நிகழ்ச்சியின் போது தென்றல் தொலைக்காட்சியில் ஒளிபரப்பாக இருக்கும் பல புதுமையான நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும் அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறார்கள்.

இதுப்பற்றி கூறிய செழியன் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன், "தென்றல் டிவி மற்ற டிவி சேனல்களில் இருந்து வேறுபட்டு இருக்கும் வகையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதிகப்படியான சினிமா நிகழ்ச்சிகள் மற்றும் அழுகாச்சி  சீரியல்களை நாங்கள் தவிர்த்திருக்கிறோம். மக்களுடைய வாழ்க்கைக்கும், அவர்களை மேம்படுத்தும் வகையிலும் தென்றல் டிவியின் நிகழ்ச்சிகள் இருக்கும். ஒவ்வொரு மணி நேரமும் செய்திகள் ஒளிபரப்பு செய்யப்படும். அதே போல தினமும் சமூதாயத்தில் நடைபெறும் குற்றங்களையும், அதன் பின்னணிகளையும் நேரடியாக குற்றம் நடைபெற்ற இடத்தில் இருந்தே, அந்த தகவல்களை மக்களுக்கு தெரியப்படுத்துவோம். இது போன்ற பல புதுமையான நிகழ்ச்சிகளோடும், உடனுக்கு உடன் செய்திகளோடும் தென்றல் டிவி ஒளிபரப்பாகும்." என்றார்.

தென்றல் டிவியின் முதன்மை மார்கெட்டிங் மேலாளரும், ஹெலன் கில்லர் விருது நிகழ்ச்சியை உருவாகியவருமான உதயகுமார் பேசும் போது, "இது போன்ற மாற்றுத்திறனாலிக் குழந்தைகளுக்கு பாடம் சொல்லி கொடுக்கும் ஆசிரியர்களை கெளரவிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசை எனக்கு நெடுநாட்களாக இருந்தது. தென்றல் டிவி மூலம் அதை சாத்தியப்படுத்த முடிந்தது சந்தோசம்.   இந்த ஆண்டு முதல் இந்த விருதை நாங்கள் தொடங்கி இருக்கிறோம். இனி ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் இந்த விருது வழங்குவோம். தற்போது இந்த விருதை பெரும் ஆசியர்கள் சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த பள்ளியில் பணிபுரிபவர்களாக இருக்கிறார்கள். இனி வரும் ஆண்டுகளில் இந்தியா முழுவதும் உள்ள இதுபோன்ற ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு விருது வழங்குவோம். இந்த விருதுக்காக தேர்வு குழு ஒன்றையும் உருவாக்குவோம்." என்றார்.

இந்த ஆண்டு ஹெலன் கில்லர் விருது 15 ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இவர்களுடன் 5 சிறப்பு விருதுகளும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

One of the big winners of the 2012 exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (eNBA) in India on Friday was ‘I Witnessed Genocide : Inside the Killing Fields of Lanka’, a key documentary produced last year by Headlines Today Television on the plight of Eezham Tamils in Vanni. The New Delhi based station's special correspondent Priyamvatha and cameraman Ashok Bhanot were the first international journalists to travel to Vanni, undercover, to report on the survivors of the 2009 genocide. The documentary has won under two categories for Best Current Affairs Programme and Best News Coverage – International.

Witnesses in Vanni had narrated accounts of sexual abuse in internment camps, the use of chemical and cluster bombs by the Sri Lankan armed forces, killing of thousands of civilians in aerial bombardment and artillery attacks and continued denial of their basic rights in the two part report, which was telecast on Headlines Today.

Priyamvatha's reports were quoted during debates in both houses of India's Parliament and in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

On Friday, Headlines Today won four awards in total. The Best Anchor award went to Headlines Today's Managing Editor Rahul Kanwal for anchoring the daily show Centre Stage and the channel's special correspondent Preeti Choudhry won the young professional of the year - editorial award.

“The coveted eNBA awards have one of the most rigorous selection processes with the jury sifting through 400 entries from the English, Hindi and regional channels vying for the honours,” said a report by India Today.

Indian television Headlines Today journalist Priyamvatha's investigative reports from Vanni last year titled "I Witnessed Genocide: Inside Sri Lanka's killing fields," has won the prestigious "Best Investigative Report" award at the 2012 News Television Award in New Delhi, media sources in Chennai said.

Ms. Priyamvatha went undercover to the Vanni to report on the survives of the 2009 genocide.

Witnesses narrated accounts of sexual abuse in internment camps, the use of chemical and cluster bombs by the Sri Lankan armed forces, killing of thousands of civilians in aerial bombardment and artillery attacks and continued denial of their basic rights in the two part report, which was telecast on Headlines Today.

Award winning film-maker presents documentary on exiled Sinhala, Tamil journalists

‘Silenced Voices – Tales of Sri Lankan Journalists in Exile’, a new documentary by Norwegian film-maker Beate Arnestad, who directed and produced the award winning documentary ‘My Daughter the Terrorist’ in 2007, is to be pre-premiered in Oslo, Norway, on February 09. The screening of ‘Silenced Voices’, which is about journalists, who contributed to international exposure of the internationally abetted genocidal war without witnesses, will be followed by a debate featuring journalists Bashana Abeywardane, the former chief editor of Hiru weekly, Frances Harrison, the former BBC foreign correspondent to Sri Lanka and Sverre Tom Radøy, a Norwegian journalist. The film features Mr. Bashana Abeywardene, his wife Sharmila Logeswaram, Sonali Wickrematunge and A. Lokeesan, TamilNet wartime correspondent, who was reporting from 2005 to April 2009 from Vanni.

Mr. Lokeesan was given safe passage to Europe with assistance from international media organisations by the efforts of the progressive Sinhalese of the Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka (JDS). Lokeesan is currently documenting his experiences as a TamilNet correspondent.

The documentary about journalists from the island of Sri Lanka in exile, with focus on issues of freedom of speech and media suppression in the island, will be screened at Vika Cinema from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by Norway’s The Fritt Ord Foundation and co-organized by the Human Rights Human Wrongs Documentary Film Festival.

“The film is told as a personal encounter with exiled journalists from Sri Lanka who have been “silenced” and almost killed in their home country because they exposed war crimes, corruption and massacres of civilians. They claim these crimes are being committed by the state. Sri Lanka is ranking one of the worst countries in Asia with respect to freedom of expression. In the past years, many have disappeared or are found tortured and killed. Close to 50 media workers have recently fled the country,” a media announcement by the Fritt Ord Foundation said.

Many journalists have faced and continue to face grave physical threats to life, family and property from the Sri Lankan state. Mylvaganam Nimalarajan, who filed news reports for TamilNet was killed in 2000 and Sivaram Dharmeratnam (Taraki), a senior editor of TamilNet was abducted and assassinated in 2005.

The Norwegian film-maker Beate Arnestad has over twenty years of experience producing and directing content for departments at Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Her first independent and award- winning documentary was My Daughter the Terrorist filmed during the time she lived in Sri Lanka. She is also behind the documentary Telling Truths in Arusha (2010).

Criminal accused Iniyapaarathi conferred with 'Pride of the Nation' award in Sri Lanka

The Government of Sri Lanka led by President Mahinda Rajapakse has conferred the national award “Desamanya” (country's pride or venerable by the country) to Iniyapaarathi, who is accused by the public for playing a key role in the abductions and disappearances of several people in Poththuvil, Akkaraippattu, Thirukkoayil and Vinaayakapuram in the Ampaa'rai district of Eastern Province and who has been accused of war crimes by the United Nations rights bodies for forced arms training to children. Iniyapaarathi is a lead operative of the paramilitary group led by Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan alias Karuna who currently holds a Deputy Minister post in the Rajapakse government. Iniyapaarathi is at present the Ampaa'rai District Coordinator for SL President Rajapaksa.

The title was awarded to the paramilitary operative at an event held in Thirukkoayil in Ampaa'rai district on 18, November, to coincide with the 66 birthday of Mahinda Rajapaksa. A foundation operating in the East organized the event and a representative of the foundation presented the award to Iniyapaarathy in the presence of the Officer-in-Charge of Thirukkoayil Police Station.

About ninety percent of affected families that gave evidence before Sri Lanka's Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) at its sittings in Ampaa'rai on March 26 this year alleged that Iniyapaarathi was responsible for the abductions and disappearances of their husbands, wives and children.

Iniyapaarathi is also accused of intimidating voters, issuing death threats and of election fraud during the last presidential election, parliamentary election and during the recently held local government election.

Kalmunai court has convicted Iniyapaarathi to ten years suspended jail term, when he was found guilty in some criminal cases.

Currently Iniyapaarathi is studying law in a private education institution in Colombo.
