பிரிட்டனின் மான்செஸ்டர் பகுதியில் இயங்கி வரும் தி கிருஷ்டி கேன்சர் மருத்துவமனையில் ரமணி ராமசுவாமி என்பவர் கடந்த 6 வருடங்களாக வேலை பார்த்து வந்தார். எக்ஸ்ரே பிரிவில் ரேடியோகிராபராக வேலை பார்த்து வந்த அவருக்கு சரியாக ஆங்கிலம் தெரியவில்லை என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. அவரால் நோயாளிகள் மற்றும் சக தொழிலாளர்களுடன் சரளமாக ஆங்கிலத்தில் பேச முடியாமல் பிரச்சினை எழுந்துள்ளது.

இதனால் திறன் குறைபாடு குறைந்தவர் என்று கூறி ஹெல்த் கேர் பிரபெசன் கவுன்சில் அவரை பதவி நீக்கம் செய்துள்ளதாக அறிவித்துள்ளது.

மலேசியாவில் வேலை பார்த்த எனக்கு மிகுந்த மரியாதை இருந்தது. என்னை இங்கு தகுதியில்லாதவன் என்று கூறி வேலை நீக்கம் செய்துள்ளது முறையற்றது. நான் கொஞ்சம் கூச்ச சுபாவம் உள்ளவன் மற்றபடி நான் எந்த நோயாளிக்கும் தீங்கு இழைக்கவில்லை என்று ரமணி ராமசாமி கூறியுள்ளார்.

முன்னாள் அமைச்சரும் திமுகவின் முக்கியத் தலைவர்களில் ஒருவருமான வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம் சென்னையில் தனியார் மருத்துவமனையில் காலமானார்.

கடந்த சில நாட்களாக உடல் நலம் குன்றியிருந்த அவர், சென்னையில் ராமசந்திரா மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தார். இந்நிலையில் இன்று காலை 11 மணி அளவில் அவர் உயிர் பிரிந்தது.

1937ம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 26ம் தேதி பிறந்தவர். திமுகவில் கடந்த 1957ல் இணைந்தார். பூலாவரி பஞ்சாயத்து தலைவராக 1958-76 களில் இருந்தார். தனது அரசியல் வாழ்க்கையினை அங்கிருந்து துவக்கிய அவர், வீரபாண்டி பஞ்சாயத்து யூனியன் தலைவராக 70-76ல் இருந்தார். பின்னர் சேலம் மத்திய கோஆப்பரேடிவ் வங்கி தலைவராக 1973-76ல் இருந்தார்.

தமிழக சட்ட மன்றத்துக்கு 1962-67, 67-71, 71-76, 89-91, 96-2001, 2006-2011 ஆகிய காலகட்டங்களில் உறுப்பினராகத் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டார்.

சேலம் திமுக வட்டாரத்தில் அசைக்க முடியாத சக்தியாக வலம் வந்தார். தமிழக அமைச்சரவையில் 89-90 ல் நகர்ப்புற வளர்ச்சித்துறை அமைச்சராகத் திகழ்ந்தவர். பின்னர் விவசாயத்துறையில் வேளாண் அமைச்சர் பொறுப்பை 1990-91, 96-2001, 2006-2011 காலகட்டங்களில் வகித்துள்ளார். கடந்த 2011 தேர்தலில் அதிமுக வேட்பாளர் விஜயலக்ஷ்மி பழனிச்சாமியிடம் தோல்வியுற்றார்.

கடந்த சில நாட்களாக மூச்சுத் திணறலால் சிரமப்பட்டு வந்தார். ஒரு வாரமாக அவர் மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சையில் இருந்துவந்தார்.இவருக்கு 3 மகன்கள்.

திமுகவின் மூத்த தலைவர்களில் ஒருவரும், முன்னாள் அமைச்சருமான வீரபாண்டி ஆறுமுகம் உடல்நிலை குறைவு காரணமாக சென்னையில் உள்ள தனியார் ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் கடந்த ஒருவார காலமாக சிகிச்சை பெற்று வந்தார். இன்று காலை சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி மரணமடைந்தார். அவருக்கு வயது 75.

இவரது மறைவையொட்டி திமுக 3 நாட்கள் துக்கம் அனுசரிக்கும் என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. திமுக கொடிகள் அரைக் கம்பத்தில் பறக்கவிடப்படும் எனவும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

1957-ஆம் ஆண்டு உறுப்பினராக திமுகவில் தன்னை இணைத்துக் கொண்ட இவர், தொடர்ந்து அந்த கட்சியில் பல்வேறு பொறுப்புகளை வகித்தார். 1958-முதல் 1970 வரை பூலாவாரி ஊராட்சி மன்ற தலைவராகவும், 1970 ஆம் ஆண்டு வீரபாண்டி ஊராட்சி ஒன்றிய தலைவராகவும் இருந்தார்.

1962 முதல் 2011 வரை 6 முறை எம்.எல்.ஏ.வாக சட்டசபைக்கு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார். 1978 முதல் 84 வரை மேல்சபை உறுப்பினராகவும் இருந்தார். 4 முறை அமைச்சராகவும் பதவி வகித்துள்ளார். கடந்த சட்டசபை தேர்தலில் சங்ககிரியில் போட்டியில் தோல்வியடைந்தார்.

கர்நாடக மாநிலத்தில் உள்ள மூடப்பட்டுள்ள கோலார் தங்க வயலில் கூடங்குளம் அணுவுலைக் கழிவுகளைச் சேமிக்கவுள்ளதாகக் கூறப்பட்டதற்கு கர்நாடகத்தில் கடும் எதிர்ப்பு எழுந்துள்ளது. அரசின் இந்த அறிவிப்புக்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்து கோலார் பகுதியில் நாளை பந்த் நடத்த அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளனர்.
கூடங்குளம் அணு உலைக்கு எதிராக உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் நடந்த வழக்கு விசாரணையின்போது, மத்திய அரசின் தலைமை வழக்குரைஞர் நரிமன் ஆஜராகி விளக்கம் அளித்தார். அப்போது அவர், கோலார் தங்கவயலில் உள்ள தங்கச் சுரங்கங்கள் பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னரே மூடப்பட்டு விட்டன. அவற்றில் கூடங்குளம் அணுக் கழிவுகளை சேமித்து வைக்க அரசு முடிவு செய்துள்ளது என்று பதிலளித்தார்.
இந்த பதிலால் அச்சமடைந்த மக்கள், தமிழகத்தில் இருந்து அணுக் கழிவுகளை கர்நாடகம் கொண்டு வர அனுமதிக்கக் கூடாது என்று தங்கள் எதிர்ப்பைப் பதிவு செய்துள்ளனர். மேலும், கோலார் தங்கவயலில் நாளை முழு அடைப்புக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளனர். இதற்கு அங்குள்ள வர்த்தக நிறுவனங்கள், சுரங்கத் தொழிலாளர்கள், அரசியல் கட்சியினரும் ஆதரவு தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

Colombo disregards school development in North-East: TNA MP

The Colombo government has been systematically neglecting the development of Tamil schools in the North and East provinces and the trend has been evident in the proposed 2012 budget proposals now being debated in the Sri Lankan parliament, says Batticaloa district Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian P. Selvaraja.

The SL government is solely concentrating on its militarization of school administration by conferring principals with ‘Colonel’ titles, the TNA MP Mr.Selvarajah further blamed while participating in the budget debate in the SL parliament.

After the end of 2009 war, the SL government has been providing army training to students under the guise of ‘leadership training’ and it has been extended to civil servants irrespective of their age, he said.

“School principals in the south are conferred with title Colonel.”

Only three Sinhala medium schools in the North and East are included in Mahindothaya 1000 schools Development Programme of the government.

Schools destroyed due to Tsunami disaster in the Eastern province are still not rehabilitated.

The Colombo government gives more importance to Sinhalese schools and not to Tamil schools in its development programme, the Tamil parliamentarian blamed.

Appellants granted time extention in Rajapakse war-crimes case

The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit granted appellants’ motion for extension of time to file the Reply brief, by two weeks, in the appeal case against Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse for civil damages on war-crimes charges, according to the court docket. The revised briefing schedule indicated that the Appellant's Reply brief will now have to be filed by December 7, 2012. Attorney for the Appellants, Bruce Fein, told the court that the the intervening holidays and his case work load had necessitated the request for extension and the Court granted his motion.

The Appellant attorney affirmed that "[t]he motion has not been filed for the purpose of delay or other improper purpose. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP)-11 (c)(1) allows the Court to impose sanctions on the attorney or law firm if the court determines that the motion is "being presented for an improper purpose, such as to harass, cause unnecessary delay, or needlessly increase the cost of litigation."

The case filed by three Tamil plaintiffs is on appeal from a final order dismissing the complaint for lack of jurisdiction based on a suggestion of immunity for Rajapakse filed by the Department of Justice on behalf of the Department of State.

The complaint was filed first in 2011 at the District Court for this case alleged multiple violations of the Torture Victims Protection Act (TVPA) based on Sri Lanka's President Rajapaksa’s command responsibility for the extrajudicial killings of Ragihar Manoharan, the son of Plaintiff Dr. Kasippillai Manoharan, of Premas Anandarajah, a humanitarian aid worker for Action Against Hunger, and husband of Plaintiff Kalaiselvi Lavan, and four members of the Thevarajah family, all relatives of Plaintiff Jeyakumar Aiyathurai.

தமிழகம் முழுவதும் அனைத்து பள்ளிகளிலும் 10, 12-வது வகுப்பு மாணவ, மாணவிகளுக்கு அரையாண்டுத் தேர்வில் மொழிப்பாட தேர்வுக்கு பின் விடுமுறை அளிக்கவும், அதையடுத்து மற்ற பாடங்களின் தேர்வுகளை நடத்தும் திட்டத்தை செயல்படுத்த பள்ளிக் கல்வித்துறை உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளதாக மாவட்ட முதன்மைக் கல்வி அலுவலர் பி.பகவதி தகவல் தெரிவித்தார்.
இதற்கு முன்பு அரையாண்டு தேர்வு முடிந்ததும் குறிப்பிட்ட நாள்கள் மொத்தமாக விடுமுறை அளிக்கப்படுவது வழக்கம். ஆனால், இந்த ஆண்டுமுதல் 10 மற்றும் 12-வது மாணவ, மாணவிகளுக்கான அரையாண்டுத் தேர்வு வருகிற 19-ம் தேதி தொடங்கி, தொடர்ந்து 22-ம் தேதி வரையில் முதல் கட்டமாக மொழிப்பாட தேர்வுகள் நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. அதற்கு பின்னர் அரையாண்டு விடுமுறை அளிக்கப்படும் திட்டம் நிகழாண்டு முதல் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.

அதனால் ஒவ்வொரு பாடத்திலும் அதிக மதிப்பெண்கள் எடுப்பதற்கு வாய்ப்பு இருக்கிறது. அதையடுத்து, மற்ற பாடங்களின் தேர்வு டிச-2ம் தேதி முதல் நடைபெற இருக்கிறது. மேலும், 6,7,8,9, 11-வது வகுப்புகளுக்கு எப்போதும் போல் பழைய முறையே பின்பற்றப்பட இருப்பதாக பகவதி தெரிவித்தார்.

கூடங்குளம் அணு உலைப் பாதுகாப்பு தொடர்பாக இந்திய அணுசக்தி ஒழுங்குமுறை சிறப்பு பணிக் குழு அளித்த 17 பரிந்துரைகளும் எந்தெந்த கட்டங்களில் அமல்படுத்தப்படும் என்பதை விரிவாக விளக்கி அறிக்கை தாக்கல் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று மத்திய அரசுக்கு உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் புதன்கிழமை உத்தரவிட்டது. இதையடுத்து அணு உலைக்கு எதிராக ஜி.சுந்தர்ராஜன் தொடர்ந்த வழக்கு விசாரணை வரும் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமைக்கு (நவ. 27) ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டது.
உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதிகள் கே.எஸ்.ராதாகிருஷ்ணன், தீபக் மிஸ்ரா அடங்கிய அமர்வு இந்த வழக்கை இரண்டாவது நாளாக புதன்கிழமை விசாரித்தது. அப்போது மத்திய அரசு சார்பில் ஆஜரான சொலிசிட்டர் ஜெனரல் ரோஹிங்டன் நாரிமன் கூறியது:
அணுக்கழிவு மறுசுழற்சி இடம் முடிவாகவில்லை: ""கூடங்குளம் அணு உலையில் இருந்து வெளியேற்றப்படும் அணுக் கழிவுகளை எந்த இடத்தில் மறுசுழற்சி செய்வது என்பது குறித்து மத்திய அரசு இன்னும் முடிவு செய்யவில்லை. ஒவ்வொரு அணு மின் நிலையத்திலும் நிலத்தடி தொட்டி உள்ளது. அதில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட எரிபொருள் தேக்கிவைத்துக் குளிரூட்டப்படும்.
மறுசுழற்சியிலும் 3 சதவீத கழிவுகள்: பயன்படுத்தப்படும் எரிபொருளில் 97 சதவீதத்தை மீண்டும் பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ள முடியும். எனவே, அணுக்கழிவுகள்தான் மறுபயன்பாட்டுக்குரிய அணுவளங்களாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றன. மீதமுள்ள 3 சதவீதக் கழிவுகளை வெளியேற்ற "பாஸ்ட் பிரீடர் ரியாக்டர்' என்ற தொழில்நுட்பத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தவுள்ளோம். ஆரம்ப நிலையில் உள்ள இந்த வகைத் தொழில்நுட்பத்தை இந்தியாதான் உலகிலேயே முதலாவதாக உருவாக்கி வருகிறது.
கல்பாக்கத்தில் அணுக்கழிவு சேமிப்புத் திட்டம்: அணு உலையில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் நீரைக் குளிரூட்ட பல ஆண்டுகள் ஆகும். அதேபோல் உயர்அழுத்த எரிபொருள் கழிவைத் தேக்கி வைக்கும் வசதி தாராபூர் அணு உலையில் உள்ளது. கல்பாக்கத்தில் அந்த வசதியை அமைக்கத் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இந்தியாவில் தோரியம் வளம் அதிகம் : சில நாடுகளில் யுரேனிய வளம் அதிகம் உள்ளது. அதனால் மறுசுழற்சி முறையில் அணு எரிபொருளைத் தயாரிக்க அவை ஆர்வம் காட்டுவதில்லை. இந்தியாவில் யுரேனிய வளம் குறைவு. அதனால்தான் யுரேனியம், புளூட்டோனியம் ஆகியவற்றை மறுசுழற்சி முறையில் பயன்படுத்தும் கொள்கையை மத்திய அரசு கொண்டுள்ளது.
இந்தியாவில் தோரியம் வளம் அதிகம். ஆனால் அதை நேரடியாக அணுப்பிளவு (நியூக்ளியர் ஃபிஷன்) செய்ய முடியாது. "பாஸ்ட் பிரீடர் ரியாக்டர்' தொழில்நுட்பம் மூலம் தோரியத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி யுரேனியத்தை உருவாக்க முடியும். கல்பாக்கம் அணுமின் நிலையத்தில் இந்தத் சோதனை நடைபெற்று வருகிறது.
2020-ல் 750 டன் மறுசுழற்சி எரிபொருள்:  இந்தியாவில் டிராம்பே அணுமின் நிலையத்தில் ஆண்டுக்கு 60 டன் மறுசுழற்சி எரிபொருளை உற்பத்தி செய்ய முடியும். தாராபூர், கல்பாக்கம் ஆகிய அணுமின் நிலையங்களில் உயர் அழுத்த நீர் திறன் கொண்ட எரிபொருளை ஆண்டுக்குத் தலா 100 டன் அளவுக்குத் தயாரிக்க முடியும். 2020ஆம் ஆண்டில் நாட்டின் பல இடங்களில் இந்த வசதியை உருவாக்கி 750 டன் மறுசுழற்சி எரிபொருளைத் தயாரிக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்'' என்று ரோஹிங்டன் நாரிமன் வாதிட்டார்.
தெளிவில்லாத திட்டம்: இதையடுத்து மனுதாரர் சுந்தர்ராஜன் சார்பில் பிரசாந்த் பூஷண் முன்வைத்த வாதம்:
உலகின் எந்த அணு உலையிலும் எரிபொருளை மறுசுழற்சி செய்யும் தொழில்நுட்பம் பயன்படுத்தப்படவில்லை என்பதை மத்திய அரசு ஒப்புக் கொள்கிறது. எரிபொருளை மறுசுழற்சி செய்த பின் அங்கு கழிவுகள் என்னவாகும் என்பதை அணுசக்தித் துறை தெளிவுபடுத்தவில்லை.
கூடங்குளம் அணு உலையில் இருந்து வெளியேற்றப்படும் கழிவுகளை மறுசுழற்சி செய்யும் இடத்தை ஆணையம் இதுவரை தேர்வு செய்யவில்லை. அந்த இடத்தைக் கட்டி முடிக்க எத்தனை வருடங்கள் ஆகும்? அங்கு எவ்வாறு அணுக்கழிவுகள் தேக்கி வைக்கப்படும்? அதனால் ஏற்படும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதிப்பு என்ன? அந்தப் பகுதியில் வாழும் மக்களுக்கு என்னென்ன பாதுகாப்பு வசதிகள் செய்யப்படும்? போன்ற திட்டங்கள் அணுசக்தித் துறையிடம் இல்லை.
கடல் வளம் பாதிக்கப்படும்: கூடங்குளத்தில் திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ள ஆறு உலைகள் செயல்படத் தொடங்கியதும் அதில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட எரிபொருளைக் குளிரவைக்க கடல் நீர் பயன்படுத்தப்படும். பின்னர் நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு சுமார் 4200 கோடி லிட்டர் சுடு நீர் கடலில் கொட்டப்படும்.
கடல் நீர் ஏற்கெனவே 29 டிகிரி வெப்பநிலையில் இருக்கும்போது அணு உலையில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட 7 டிகிரி வெப்பம் கொண்ட நீரைக் கொட்டுவதால் கடல் நீரின் வெப்பநிலை 36 டிகிரியாக அதிகரிக்கும். இதனால் கடல் வளம் பாதிக்கப்படும்.
அணுசக்தி ஒழுங்குமுறை ஆணையம் தன்னிச்சையான அமைப்பு என மத்திய அரசு கூறுகிறது. ஆனால் அதன் தலைவராக மத்திய அணுசக்தித் துறையின் செயலர்தான் இருக்கிறார். எனவே அணு மின் நிலையங்களைக் கண்காணிக்க செயல் அளவில் தன்னிச்சையான ஒழுங்குமுறை அமைப்பை உருவாக்க வேண்டும்.
"அணுசக்தி ஆணையம் நியமித்த சிறப்புப் பணிக்குழு அளித்த 17 பரிந்துரைகளும் நிறைவேற்றிய பிறகு அணு உலையில் எரிபொருள் நிரப்பப்படும்' என மத்திய அரசு ஆரம்பத்தில் கூறியது.
ஆனால், சில மாதங்களில் அந்த நிலையை மாற்றிக் கொண்டு முதலில் 6 பரிந்துரைகளையும் பின்னர் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளில் மற்ற பரிந்துரைகளையும் செயல்படுத்துவோம் என இப்போது கூறி வருகிறது. இந்த முரண்பட்ட நிலைக்கு இந்திய அணுசக்தி ஆணையம் அளிக்கும் விளக்கம் ஏற்கும்படி இல்லை'' என்று பிரசாந்த் பூஷண் வாதிட்டார்.
இரு தரப்பு வாதங்களையும் கேட்ட நீதிபதிகள் ""அணுசக்தி குழு பரிந்துரைகளின் அமலாக்கம் எந்த அளவில் உள்ளன? அவை எந்தெந்தக் காலகட்டத்தில் அமல்படுத்தப்படும்? அவற்றை ஒரே நேரத்தில் அமல்படுத்த முடியாதது ஏன்? என்பதற்கான விளக்கத்தை அறிக்கையாக தாக்கல் செய்ய வேண்டும்?'' என்று மத்திய அரசுக்கு உத்தரவிட்டனர். பின்னர், வழக்கு விசாரணையை செவ்வாய்க்கிழமைக்கு ஒத்திவைத்தனர்.

மதுரையில் டெங்கு காய்ச்சலால் அதிகம் உயிரிழப்புகள் ஏற்படுவதை அடுத்து, அரசு பொது மருத்துவமனையில் யாகம் ஒன்றுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. இன்று காலை 6 மணி அளவில் இந்த யாகம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. கடந்த ஒன்றரை மாதங்களில் மட்டும் மதுரை மருத்துவமனையில் 44 பேர் டெங்கு காய்ச்சலுக்கு உயிரிழந்துள்ளனர். இதனால் மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்க்கப்படும் நோயாளிகள் பல பீதியுடன் காலம் கழிக்கின்றனர். அவர்களின் மனச் சாந்திக்காகவும், அச்சத்தைப் போக்கவும் சில நடவடிக்கைகளை மருத்துவமனை நிர்வாகம் மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது. சுற்றுப் புறத் தூய்மை, உடனடி மருத்துவ வசதிகள் என அனைத்தும் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டும், உளவியல் ரீதியாக நோயாளிகளைத் தேற்றும் பொருட்டு இந்த யாகம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டதாக அதிகாரி ஒருவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

குன்னத்தூர் 3-வது வார்டில் உள்ள தேவம்பாளையத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் சண்முகசுந்தரம் (வயது 22). கோவையில் உள்ள தனியார் என்ஜினீயரிங் கல்லூரியில் படித்து வந்தார். கல்விக்கடன் பெறுவதற்காக குன்னத்தூரில் உள்ள தேசிய மயமாக்கப்பட்ட வங்கியில் விண்ணப்பித்தார்.

மனுவை பரிசீலனை செய்து கடன் தருவதாக வங்கியின் மானேஜர் கூறியதாக தெரிகிறது. ஆனால் மாணவருக்கு இதுவரை வங்கிக் கடன் வழங்கப்படவில்லை. எனவே சண்முகசுந்தரம் கல்லூரிக்கு செலுத்த வேண்டிய கட்டணத்தை கட்டமுடியவில்லை.

கட்டணம் செலுத்தாததால் கல்லூரி நிர்வாகம் மாணவரை தேர்வு எழுத அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. மனமுடைந்த சண்முகசுந்தரம் நேற்று மதியம் கல்லூரியில் இருந்து வீட்டுக்கு திரும்பினார். மிகவும் மனவேதனையில் காணப்பட்ட அவர் பூச்சி மருந்தை குடித்து விட்டார். மயங்கி விழுந்த சண்முகசுந்தரத்தை குன்னத்தூரில் உள்ள தனியார் ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் சேர்த்தனர்.

பின்னர் மேல் சிகிச்சைக்காக கோபியில் உள்ள அரசு ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் சேர்த்தனர். அங்கு தீவிர சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. எனினும் சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி சண்முகசுந்தரம் பரிதாபமாக இறந்தார். குன்னத்தூர் போலீசார் வழக்கு பதிவு செய்து விசாரித்து வருகிறார்கள்.

Honest intellectual discourse missing in Tamil Nadu: Thirumurugan

Lack of honest intellectual discussion in Tamil Nadu is the reason why the Tamil Eezham cause has not been taken up for intense intellectual discussion at a larger All-India level, said Thirumurugan Gandhi, coordinator of May 17 civil society movement of TamilNadu in an interview to TamilNet earlier this month. Such intellectual discourses usually dominated by Marxist Communists and Brahmanistic sections in Tamil Nadu failed the Eezham Tamils. But the biased sections that theoretically opposed Tamil Eezham, opposed the LTTE, pushed back the cause and contributed favourably to the Sri Lankan state now find themselves sidelined in Tamil Nadu due to civil society awakening, Thirumurugan said, adding an appreciating note on the support of Muslim civil society in Tamil Nadu.



Visiting London for the British Tamil Forum conference, Thirumurugan was interviewed by V. Kohulan for the Palaka’ni programme of TamilNet.

Rejecting ‘step-by-step’ approach for solution to Eezham Tamils, Thirumurugan said that it would have worked in the 1960s when the question was in the initial stages, but not now in the context of genocide and after Tamils paying a high price. He cited at the creation of Israel within a couple of years of the WWII pogrom.

Step-by-step after genocide is suicidal, he said.

In his opinion, the talk of the steps that war crimes investigation would lead to prove genocide and would pave way for independence is a fraud, as there is no commitment or guarantee of political nature for the goal of the steps.

When the International Community has explicitly precluded that it would oppose Eezham Tamil independence why should the Tamils be guided by that International Community, he asked.

Keeping the island as a whole, they want a mercenary state there. They want to treat the entire island as a real property estate.

But they also need the Tamil support. Patch-up and delay are the tactics to handle Tamils. What the IC wants is to deceive Tamils.

It is not that there should be no war crimes investigations. War crimes will cover only the small fry. War crime was only one of the crimes committed. Punishment for the crimes and justice to the victims are two different things. Both have to be together in the delivery of justice.

Tamils have to be clear in their demand. Ask straight to the face.

Only a society that has the guts to tell the IC that we would be with you only when you give us what we ask, will be successful. This is what the Sinhalese did, saying that take our country, take our resources, but make it a Sinhala island.

Eezham Tamils should not think that they are weak and compromise with the fundamentals. People who are weak and fluctuating need not come into the scene of politics.

The IC cannot abandon a de facto state it created by an internationally backed peace process.

Tamils do not realize their international potentiality, Thirumurugan said.

On LLRC he said that LLRC implementation, seeking solutions within unitary Sri Lanka has to be rejected in toto. SL constitution being anti-Tamil is a proven fact. Reconciliation is a tactic to destroy a struggle. Reconciliation is meaningful only when there is parity. Those who have committed the crimes can’t be judges. LLRC recommendations come from a panel headed by an internationally discredited Chief Justice. The IC is corrupt and has no credibility in this regard.

Genuine reconciliation will take place only when Sinhalese and Tamils have their own governments.

When asked on the stand of media in India on the question of Eezham Tamils, Thirumurugan said that the mainstream media in India are either in the clutches of intelligence agencies or are purchased by the Sri Lankan government.

He came hard on The Hindu.

The Hindu received many benefits from governments in Colombo, he said, adding The Hindu was instrumental in finding connections for Colombo with China and higher-ups in New Delhi.

Posing a progressive image, such a media finds recognition even from people like Chomsky, he cited.

The Hindu has agreements with The Guardian in London for news exchanges. The Hindu did not take up the cables on Sri Lanka when the Wikileak cables became available through The Guardian, Thirumurugan said. He urged the Londoners to handle such matters with The Guardian.

Thirumurugan also commented negatively on the stands of Times of India and Deccan Chronicle. The Economic and Political Weekly never discussed Tamil Eelam as a serious issue, he said.

On Indian foreign policy, India lost its grip on the island of Sri Lanka long back, is the opinion of Thirumurugan.

Foreign policy of India cannot be a monopoly of the Congress and the BJP. The other parties have a say, but they don’t exercise it.

The DMK and the AIADMK never asserted them to have a say in the foreign policy.

But there are political parties in India, prepared for it. North Indian politicians like Ram Vilas Paswan proved that non-Congress and non-BJP parties could come to speak for Eezham Tamils and influence India’s foreign policy.

Mass-based parties have a say in India’s foreign policy. Border states in India have a say. States have to assert themselves to that responsibility. May 17 movement will move towards to work on it, Thirumurugan said.

India is basically imperial. Oppression is a common problem for Eezham Tamils as well as Tamils in Tamil Nadu, he said.

Tamils in their long history have never faced genocide before, but they face a planned one now.

Never think the mainstream parties will do anything for Tamils. Only the grassroot could do it. There is progress now.

The mainstream political parties in Tamil Nadu, both the DMK and AIADMK were forced to respond only when there was a civil society awakening after May 2009, and when the question of Eezham Tamils has become an inevitable election issue, Thirumurugan said.

British diplomat briefed on demographic genocide taking place in Trincomalee

The leader of opposition in the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC), Mr Singaraveloo Thandayuthapani, a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) politician on Monday briefed the Deputy High Commissioner of UK Mr Robbie Bulloch, who was on an official visit to Trincomalee district. The TNA politician described the land appropriation by the Sri Lanka Army affecting Eezham Tamils in the district as a systematic and planned act of demographic genocide.

The British Deputy High Commissioner during his tour in Trincomalee district also witnessed the plight of uprooted Eezham Tamils from Champoor villages. The people are now sheltered against their will at the so-called welfare camps in Moothoor East.

Champoor uprooted people are languishing in four camps in Kaddai-pa'richchaan, Ki'liveddi, Paddiththidal and Ma'nat-chaenai since April 2006.

During his one hour discussion with Mr Bulloch, the TNA politician, Mr Thandayuthapani, briefed the visiting diplomat on the extent of lands and paddy fields being appropriated from Eezham Tamils by the agencies of Colombo government.

Mr Bulloch was also told how Buddhist viharas and stupas were being constructed replacing the existing Saiva koayils in the district.

Mr Thanadayuthapani cited the latest move by the SL authorities to appropriate 3,000 acres of paddy fields belonging to Tamil farmers for the construction of a Buddhist Vihara at Thiriyaay.

In the meantime, the administration of several centuries old Kanniyaa hot wells has been handed over to a Buddhist monk. Earlier, the wells were under the control of Trincomalee Town and Gravets PS.

A Murukan Koayil in Ilankaith-thu'rai-mukaththuvaaram and Malai Neeliyamman Koayil in Kaladdi in Moothoor East have been converted as Buddhist holy places by Buddhist monks with the support of occupying Sri Lanka Army, the visiting British deputy high commissioner was told.

Paddy fields of Tamil farmers in Padukaadu and Muslim farmers in Muthalai-madu and Vavu'na-vil in Moothoor division have been appropriated by Sinhala farmers backed by the Sri Lankan military.

In Champoor area about 9600 acres covering four village level divisions with eight Saiva Koayils and four Tamil schools have been appropriated by the Colombo government under the guise of High Security Zone since the occupation of Champoor by the SL military in 2006.

Around 1,400 acres of the appropriated lands have been allocated for the proposed Thermal Power Plant, which is to be constructed with the assistance of India and for the construction for the Special Economic Development Zone by the Colombo government.

“The uprooted Tamil villagers are not allowed to resettle even in the remaining lands. They languish in camps as refugees without basic facilities. They are also denied their livelihood assistance such dry ration relief provided by the World Food Programme as they refused to accept alternate lands earmarked by the government for resettlement, ” the TNA delegation told the visiting diplomat, urging the British government to take action to provide relief to the suffering Eezham Tamils from Champoor.

Mr Bulloch also met the UPFA nominated Chief Minister Mr Najeeb Abdul Majeed.

SL ambassador cites China for ‘autonomy within unitary structure’

Genocidal Sri Lanka’s ambassador in France, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleke, on Sunday reiterated his stand of finding ‘autonomy’ solutions for Tamils within a ‘unitary’ state. The model he cited was China. He was replying to criticism on his stand by Emeritus Professor Peter Schalk that appeared in TamilNet last Thursday. “The reply of the ambassador only confirms what we all have a foreboding of, namely that the ambassador of Sri Lanka has a totalitarian system like the Chinese as a model for the unitary state of Lanka. What about the "autonomy" of Tibet in practice? There is no autonomy,” commented Peter Schalk in a note sent to TamilNet on Monday.

“I am aware that Constitutions create fictions about regional autonomy within unitary states, but Tibet is a good example of the tension between theory and practice, much like it is the case in Lanka,” Schalk said, responding to Dayan’s reply that appeared in Lankaweb on Sunday.

Earlier in November, the SL ambassador was entertained by France’s Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), to come out with the ‘autonomy’ model while preserving the unitary character of the Sri Lankan state.

Arguing that autonomy and unitary are fundamentally paradoxical, Schalk had said on Thursday that a social scientist would not have uttered such a thing.

The structural genocide practised by the unitary state in the island for decades is not an occasional aberration or some nuts, he had said.

“The ambassador has come to a stage where he has to chose to continue his career as a demagogue or as a scholar,” Schalk responded on Monday to Dayan’s reiterated advocacy for autonomy within a unitary structure.

Meanwhile, commenting on the SL ambassador’s advocacy, an Eezham Tamil political activist in the island said that if any majoritarian and unitary state with a chronic history of genocide wants to complete that genocide and total annihilation of the nation of its target, then ‘autonomy within unitary structure’ provides the most ostensible theoretical smokescreen to conduct it in a controlled atmosphere.

The modal coming from a state of genocidal conviction would first reduce the nation of its target into ‘ethnic minority’ living in pockets under subjugated conditions, before the total annihilation, the political activist said.

The SL diplomat was turning the table on the TNA for visiting China to study ‘autonomy’ under unitary state.

“The Chinese constitution which defines the state as unitary, also enshrines the concept of ethnic regional autonomy–so perhaps Prof Schalk should direct his absurd, politically fundamentalist objections to the leadership of the TNA and the Chinese Communist party, rather than to me,” Dayan wrote.

But the ‘autonomy within unitary’ hoodwink was long kept up in the sleeves of the West and India that never wanted to offend the genocidal Sinhala-Buddhist state in the island, said the Tamil political activist in the island.

He cited New Delhi’s silence on the separation of North and East and the current idea of abolishment of the 13th Amendment as well as Washington’s promotion of the LLRC recommendations of non-descript solutions paving way for further strengthening of the unitary genocidal state in the island.

Especially Washington, London and New Delhi that harbour thoroughly illogical approaches to the question in the island and contribute to furtherance of misery, choose to call the time-tested aspirations of Eezham Tamils as impractical, the activist further commented.
