‘Sri Lanka’ sacred cow to both US imperialism and social imperialism
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 15 March 2016, 07:01 GMT]
There could be no disagreement on ‘world socialist’ accusation that articulating Eezham Tamil leadership looks upon appealing to the USA and India for support, despite its previous “impotent pleas” falling on deaf ears. This section of Tamil polity deserves the attack, as it is still impotent for a global struggle-based polity but argues for posing as victims appealing to the very culprits, which gives the finishing touches to the ‘counterinsurgency’ agenda. However, the ‘world socialists’ conditioned by the so-called ‘Sri Lanka’, created and being propped up by the very imperialists, don’t answer the most crucial question why this ‘Sri Lanka’ should be a single unit in the global struggle of the world working class, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics.
If it is the Stalinist version of ‘socialism in one country’ that makes them to think ‘Sri Lanka’ as one unit, then the world has already seen how the Russian Fatherland nationalism was working in camouflage behind that paradigm.
If it is sheer geography of the strategic island that makes them to uphold ‘Sri Lanka’ as a single unit, what theory of ‘world socialism’ tells them to overlook practical genocide in recognizing geographical units in the struggle of achieving world socialist order?
All nationalist identities are bad, but ‘Sri Lanka’ identity alone is sacred. If doing business with geopolitics is the same for the US bandwagon as well as for the world socialists, what difference it makes to the nation of Eezham Tamils?
If the Sinhala bourgeoisie was always clever in ‘regime changes’ and playing the game of chosen agents to imperialists, and through them prodding the Tamil bourgeoisie to fall in line, the so-called Left in the island was always misleading the world Left – both lines ultimately sustaining the Colombo-centric genocidal Sri Lanka.
Partial in covering up the aggressive corporate and military operations of especially China, and covering up the competitive role it played in the genocide of Eezham Tamils, the world socialists in the island now come up with a vertical ploy of integrating South Asia and rallying the working class across the Indian subcontinent –all starting from ‘Sri Lanka’.
The Left in India is prepared to talk about self-determination to Kashmir and that should be welcomed, but ‘Sri Lanka’ is strategically more sacred to it that it is not prepared to voice for the self-determination of Eezham Tamils.
In such a scenario, rejecting ‘Sri Lanka’ is the primary democratic response that should come from Eezham Tamils to the impositions of both the bourgeoisie imperialists as well as social imperialists. What is wrong in Eezham Tamils thinking of a horizontal approach of aligning with the stateless Tamils all over the world and other stateless nations in creating a new theoretical perspective for the betterment of the world order?
World socialists in the island talk about the massacre of 160,000 JVP Sinhala youth in 1971 and in 1989. The JVP never reached out to Tamils and unfortunately the Tamils were watching in silence. The JVP was not watching in silence at the genocide of Eezham Tamils. It was a party to the Colombo system. This ground reality should enlighten world socialism that it needs fresh theoretical outlook in approaching the question in the island.
For genuine coming together of the working class there should be equality among them at least in self-respect.
Are the world socialists in the island, talking against nationalism, prepared to do away with ‘Sri Lanka’ identity, or are they prepared to consider Tamil Eelam on a par with Sri Lanka? If so, it would not only help the working class to come together but would also make the working class to course correct the bourgeoisie playing agents to imperialisms.
