The owner of Easwaran Traders, Mr. T. Thuvarakeswaran, who is a brother of the assassinated Tamil parliamentarian T. Maheswaran, was rushed to Jaffna Hospital after he was subjected to acid throwing Saturday morning in the premises of Nalloor temple in Jaffna. While the Sri Lankan police said that the motive of the attack was a private land dispute within the family circles, the victim, Mr Thuvarakesawaran has alleged that the attacker was a Sri Lankan military officer who is a personal secretary of the SL Governor of North, Maj. Gen. (retd) G.A. Chandrasiri.

Mr Thuvarakeswaran was injured in his shoulder when the attacker who came in a motorbike threw acid on him while he was getting ready to get into his jeep at Nalloor Temple Saturday morning.

Informed sources in Jaffna said that Mr Chandrasiri had shown interest in the disputes prevailing between the brothers and the wife of the slain parliamentarian.

The SL governor was taking the side of Mrs Vijayakala against the brothers of the late parliamentarian, the sources further said.

Mrs Vijayakala Maheswaran is an elected parliamentarian representing the United National Party (UNP).
