All States deceive Tamils at Geneva: Jaffna protest

All States deceive Tamils at Geneva:

Jaffna protest

[TamilNet, Monday, 27 June 2016, 22:11 GMT]
More than 400 Eezham Tamils, comprising rights activists, uprooted people from SL military-occupied lands and relatives of persons subjected to enforced disappearance, staged a protest march in Jaffna on Monday condemning the deceptive internal investigation discourse charted by the “USA-Sri Lanka consensus resolution”. Denouncing the smokescreen measures by the SL State, the protesters were calling for international criminal investigations as well as demanding the UN system to investigate the State responsibility for the root crime of genocide. Meanwhile, Intelligence operatives of the occupying SL military were tracing the origin of the organisers behind the protest and the participants were subjected to strict surveillance harassment.

The protesters demanded immediate de-militarisation and full resettlement of uprooted Tamils in the former ‘High Security Zone’ lands still under the seizure of Sinhala military.

The protesters gathered in front of Nalloor temple and marched towards the sub office of World Food Programme through Jaffna-Point Pedro Road and Temple Road.

“International Community, are you getting deceived by the SL State or are you also deceiving the Tamil people,” was a slogan in the protest.

“All States deceive us,” was another slogan.

The families of the missing persons were demanding immediate answers from the SL government on the whereabouts of their kith and kin.

A section of the participants were demanding increased international role in any investigations designed and executed by the SL State.

The protest comes after Vavuniyaa Citizens’ Committee and the representatives of missing persons joining hands with a section of leftist activists in opposing the deceptive manipulations by funded NGOs operating from Colombo.

Two ITAK parliamentarians, Mavai Senathirajah and E. Saravanpavan appeared for a short time in the beginning of the protest and went away when the protesters started their march.

In an interesting development, a section of second-tier leaders of the EPDP outfit joined the protesters and showed interest in featuring themselves in the photo sessions with the protesters for the local journalists covering the protest.

In the meantime, SL Military Intelligence operatives were tracing who were behind organising the protest. The intelligence operatives clad in civil clothes photographed all the participants.
