Time for fundamental change in IC outlook on ‘Sri Lanka’

Time for fundamental change in IC outlook on ‘Sri Lanka’

Whatever the deviations in the Zeid report on Sri Lanka that has left the world to count petty trees and to lose the sight of the genocidal wood in the island, the report, listing overwhelming failures on the part of the State in Colombo even in implementing the most lenient resolution in recent UN history, indirectly urges paradigmatic changes in the current ‘Sri Lanka’ outlook of the International Community of Establishments, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island. The report evidences the urgent need to address the issue more directly and proactively with the core paradigm-setters in Washington, London and New Delhi, the activists further said, urging Tamil polity and international human rights activism to take up an appropriate struggle strategy.

The statements coming from countries, UN-accredited INGOs and Tamil activists at Geneva on the oral report of Zeid have to be carefully perused to understand where we stand, the Tamil activists for alternative politics said.

Among the countries, Russia came out with the worst, giving exclusive licence to the genocidal State in the island. The former social imperialist legacy is yet to learn how to translate its anti-West agenda into an oppressed-people-friendly programme.

Pakistan’s disgusting show was beyond all logic and sensibility. While deservingly voicing for Rohingya Muslims facing Burmese Buddhist State, Pakistan unjustly supported the Sinhala-Buddhist State committing genocide on Tamils and Tamil-speaking Muslims in the island.

One should note that both the current Burma paradigm and Sri Lanka paradigm were set in similar lines by the same elements, and that even New Delhi would support Colombo, to understand the extent of Colombo-wooing by Pakistan.

While Colombo FM, Mangala Samaraweera was assuring the UNHRC on creating a ‘US-modelled counterinsurgency’ outfit in the island to replace the PTA, as though US counterinsurgency had nothing to do with the genocide of Eezham Tamils, the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland and Japan continued to harp on hoping their ‘Sri Lanka’ paradigm to work, downplaying the blatant deceit being committed by Colombo. Japan, competing with China was highly appreciative of Colombo. All of them ironically voiced for international participation in the domestic investigation they had already conceded to Colombo.

New Zealand was the only country that stood apart from all, in calling spade as spade, by righteously recognizing the national question that the issue is about Tamils in the North and East of the island. New Zealand demonstrated that before also. Even Denmark, without mentioning the word Tamil, noted the North and East. For countries in the UNHRC, recognizing Rohingya identity is not a problem, but recognizing Eezham Tamil identity and even the word Tamil is taboo. Such is their crave for the ‘integrity’ of the genocidal State.

Some countries, including Vietnam, didn’t touch the Sri Lanka report at all.

It was Estonia, Macedonia and Ghana that have come out with the strongest comments for the edification of ‘Sri Lanka’ paradigm, reminding Eezham Tamil polity about the course it should take up in mobilising support of humanity. Estonia urged the ratification of International Criminal Court by Sri Lanka.

The unsaid but implied message in the Zeid report is the need to demand for total outlook change in the international paradigm-setters, who refuse to accept genocide and national question orientated solutions. Unfortunately, even many of the Tamil politicians are not orientated to demand the total outlook change. The sole voice that was heard in this regard at the current Geneva session was that of Thirumurugan Gandhi.
