Mu'l'livaaykkaal remembrance gains momentum amidst renewed harassments
[TamilNet, Saturday, 14 May 2016, 17:18 GMT]
Elected councillors of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC), former members of civic bodies, militant-turned political parties in the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Tamil National Peoples' Front (TNPF) are engaged in organising memorial events in the country of Eezham Tamils amidst recently renewed threats and harassments against former Tamil fighters in the North and East. The SL military intelligence circles have been telling former members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) that there will be consequences if they were seen paying tribute to fallen LTTE members. Not only the LTTE fighters, all the Tamils who wanted to be free and stood with the LTTE in Vanni while all the global Establishments were directly or indirectly assisting Colombo were all real Tamil Heroes, said NPC Councillors who are organising a series of memorial events and meetings in the North.
In parallel to the harassment targeting former Tamil fighters, the SL Defence Ministry spokesman in Colombo has gone on record saying that there was ‘no censorship’ in remembering the ‘civilians’ who perished.
In the meantime, NPC Chief Minister has called for all sections of religious dignitaries and political representatives to attend the common memorial event organised by the NPC on 18 May at Mu'l'livaaykkaal School.

Countering the ‘Sri Lankan’ attempt
to limit the scope of Tamils right of remembering their heroes, NPC
councillors launched Mu'l'livaaykkaal Remembrance Week starting from 12
Thursday observing a series of remembrance events at the massacre sites
in all the districts.
Meanwhile, NPC councillors and former militant-turned politicians of the TNA, have also organised meetings on the occasion of 40-years since the unified decision made by all the Tamil political parties to advance Tamil sovereignty and the right to full self-determination.
By remembering those killed at various massacres throughout the Tamil homeland on Mu'l'ivaaykkaal Remembrance Week, the Tamils are passing a message to the global humanity that these massacres were all part of a systematic genocide against the Eezham Tamils, Mr K. Shivajilingam told TamilNet.

The first event was organised on Thursday at Chemma'ni junction where hundreds of Eezham Tamils were massacred by the Colombo regime in 1996 under the rule of Chandrika Kumaratunga Bandaranaike, who is now leading the so-called ‘Office for National Unity and Reconciliation’.
The NPC councillors and former members of civic councils lit memorial flames at Naakar-koayil school and on Friday and at Navaali St. Peter's Church on Saturday.
More than 150 people, including women and children, were slain in ‘Sri Lanka Air Force’ (SLAF) attack on Navaali St. Peter's Church on 09 July 1995.
At Naakar-koayil, 40 civilians including 22 school children were slain in SLAF bombardment on 22 May 1995.
SL military intelligence operatives were taking video and photographs of the memorial event at Naakar-koayil.
