Tamil Nadu fishermen complain of intentional assault by SL Navy

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 28 October 2015, 07:36 GMT]
The navy of genocidal Sri Lanka has brutally assaulted 11 fishermen from Tamil Nadu State after intruding into Indian waters and chasing them in 6 naval vessels in the early hours of Tuesday, according to 11 fishermen from Rameasvaram (Rameswaram), who were brought to Mannaar Courts on Tuesday. The fishermen talking to media at Mannaar Court complex said they were subjected to torture by the SL Navy. The fishermen were fishing in the Indian waters in 60 small boats, they claimed.

In the meantime, 86 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who have been blamed by the SL State for intruding into the waters off Mannaar and Jaffna are being released on Wednesday following the pressure exerted on the Indian Central Government by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu State Ms Jayalalithaa.

The 11 fishermen from Tamil Nadu in Mannaar said the SL Navy was behaving like it wanted to keep a number of fishermen from Tamil Nadu in their custody and said they were disappointed that the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard have failed to protect them.

Acting Judge Emmanuel Caius Feldano ordered the SL Police to detain the 11 fishermen from Tamil Nadu until November 06.
