Key sabotage in US draft lies in withdrawal of demilitarisation

The US draft resolution that will be tabled at the UNHCR, initially talking of demilitarisation and then deleting it, amounts to encouragement of Sinhala militarisation in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils, and the results are already showing in the SL military activities, said Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island. The removal of demilitarisation is done with the particular intention of nullifying even the weak investigative mechanism of the OHCHR brought out in the draft, as witnesses will have no freedom to facilitate a genuine investigation in a genocidal-militarised environment, the activists said.

The best example is the ‘witnessing’ that was staged by the SL military immediately after the war by bringing the three captive doctors who served in Mu’l’livaaykkaal during the war. The international Establishments silently accepted this brutal twist of truth at that time, the activists further said.

In the meantime, Tamil Civil Society Forum (TCSF) representative Kumaravadivel Guruparan, Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Councillor from the Norther Provincial Council M.K. Shivajingam, Professor Sri Ranjan and Krisna Saravanamuttu from National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), Luxcy Alex Lambert from the country council of Eelam Tamils in Germany, Dr. Andrew Higginbottom from UK and exiled journalist Bashana Abeywardane addressed media and activists at a side event in Geneva discussing whether the resolution being tabled at Geneva would be a part of the solution or a part of the problem.
