Fear psychosis grips Vanni as SL military clamps down on Tamils
[TamilNet, Friday, 21 March 2014, 08:08 GMT]
The occupying SL military system, emboldened by the extension of one more year to continue its iron fist manoeuvrings to continue to engineer demographic, cultural and structural genocide on the nation of Eelam Tamils, has used 2014 March sessions in Geneva to project an enemy in its imagination, bringing again untold miseries for the thousands of families that have been affected by the genocidal onslaught in 2009. On Wednesday and Thursday, the districts of Ki'linochchi and Mullaiththeevu witnessed military round up operations as never before in recent years after the war. Several villagers were brought to open grounds, filtered one-by-one, arrests made and threats issued by Sinhala soldiers who are made to believe by Colombo that former LTTE members were regrouping to wage another armed struggle. A fear psychosis has gripped the people of Vanni.
A white-van team of the occupying SL military abducted two former LTTE members at Puthukkudiryiruppu in open day light on Tuesday.
According to the instructions from Colombo, the top officials of the occupying SL military in the North have made the Sinhala soldiers to believe that the LTTE was being re-grouped in Vanni.
On Wednesday and Thursday, several villages in Mullaiththeevu and Ki’linochchi districts were subjected to round-ups, search operations, public filtering of people and arrests. On top of that all former members or cadres of the LTTE have been instructed to present themselves in nearest SL military camps without delay on Friday.
While a section of the armed Sinhala soldiers were patrolling the streets surrounding the villages, another section gets deployed on house-to-house search operations as during the times of war in SLA controlled territories.
The people were coached towards public grounds and SL military men filter the people and arrest some of them.
Additional soldiers were being deployed at a random fashion during the nights restricting the movement of civilians completely.
Udaiyaar-kaddu, Chuthanthira-puram and Iruddu-madu in Mullaiththeevu district witnessed big search operations on Wednesday and Thursday. The SL military has detained at least 8 persons after a public filtering at Udaiyaar-kaddu, news sources in Mullaiththeevu district told TamilNet Thursday night.
Former LTTE members were being threatened. There should be no contact with the ‘regrouping’ section of ex-LTTE was the message.
Kanakapuram, Uthayanakar villages were rounded up on Wednesday. Village (GS) officers were instructed to be present to verify the identity of the families during the search operations.
Nobody should be housed without informing the SL military in advance, the villagers were told by the Sinhala soldiers.
The people are unable to move around in Vanni without having valid identity cards.
