[TamilNet, Thursday, 04 August 2016, 23:02 GMT]
While a Sinhala Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Chintaka Bandara, and his criminal gang, alleged of being responsible for the torture, killing and subsequent cover-up of the murder of a 26-year-old Tamil youth in their custody at Chunnaakam in 2011 are still being at the helm of the SL police affairs at Kodikaamam in Jaffna, the SL Police in Jaffna city has been alleged of murdering a crucial witness this week. 51-year-old Krishnan Kanthasamy, who was a brokering agent of the Sinhala military-run white-van squad, was caught by the people on Kasthooriyaar Road in the city on Monday and he revealed the details of a Major rank SL Military Intelligence officer and his squad as being responsible for several abductions, killings and extortion of money from some of the families of their genocidal victims. Later, he was poisoned by Sinhala police officers, informed Tamil police circles told TamilNet.
Mr Krishnan was caught by the public as the brother of a Tamil youth, who was abducted, detained for several years and released earlier this year, spotted him as the person who functioned as an agent for the abductors.
Krishnan had received 237,000 rupees in 2011 from the family of abducted Vaikunthan from Neerveali, who was reported missing in 2006.
The transaction took place in 2011 after the family of Vaikunthan received an anonymous letter in which Krisnhan’s phone number had been given.
The family of Vaikunthan met Krishnan and he promised to arrange for the release of Vaikunthan and demanded money. Even after the initial money was given as demanded, the agent was asking for another 50,000 and later vanished from contact. Vaikunthan was not released till January 2016.
On Monday, when the brother of Vaikunthan spotted Krishnan on Kasthooriyaar Road, he caught him with the help of the residents and handed him over to some Tamil officers of the SL Police.
Krishnan, confronted by the people told them that he was being operated by the SL military intelligence. When he was interrogated by the Tamil police officials, he revealed the names and ranks of the involved Sinhala Military Intelligence personnel, who were using him for the extortion of money from the families of the Tamil victims.
However, within a few hours, Krishnan was transferred to Sinhala police ‘investigators’, who were attempting to protect the SL Military Intelligence personnel.
During the process, Krishnan was taken into a three-wheeler after being poisoned, the informed police sources said.
Medical sources believe that Krishnan was poisoned through alcohol given to him.
The Sinhala policemen took him in bad condition to Koappaay Police and tried to convince the OIC there to take Krishnan into custody. Krishnan has also been subjected to torture, the sources further said.
But, the OIC at the station had declined to take him into his custody after seeing the condition of Krishnan, the informed sources further said.
Krishnan was later admitted to Jaffna hospital where he succumbed to poison.
The continued confrontations, taking place even today, between the occupying Sinhala forces and their victim population are the direct result of denied international justice, which has failed to address the question of genocide, commented Tamil political activists in Jaffna.
The external culprits behind the denial of international injustice are advocating so-called reconciliation while backing the structural annihilation camouflaged as ‘development’, the Tamil activists further commented.
