Genocidal Sri Lanka harasses Tamil family for demanding land back in Kokku'laay

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 03 February 2016, 23:27 GMT]
The legally entitled Tamil owners of the land at Kokku'laay, where an extremist Sinhala Buddhist monk, Ven Thissapura Gunarathna Thero, is aggressively engaged in constructing a Buddhist vihara aiming Sinhalaicisation of the strategic location in the Tamil homeland, say their family are being harassed by the officials of the genocidal ‘Sri Lanka’ and the military of the Colombo regime. The monk is constructing the Vihara by deploying the occupying Sinhala soldiers despite the efforts taken by Tamil officials and the Northern Province Council Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, the sources further told TamilNet on Wednesday. The area surrounding Kokku'laay is the focus of Sinhala colonisation presently, as it is the key location for wedging the demographic contiguity of the North and East as well as direct communication between Mullaiththeevu and Trincomalee.

The activities and blueprints of the extremist Buddhist monk in Kokku'laay have been brought out in detail in earlier TamilNet reports.

The active backing of the Colombo regime and the Sinhala military for the Buddhist monk to build a Buddhist temple-centric economic establishment at this place, is clearly a premeditated, much-studied and well-planned process, Tamil civil activists from Kokku'laay told TamilNet in June 2015.

On 11 December 2015, SL Police Deputy Inspector General EMM Ekanayaka, who is in charge of the SL police of Vavuniyaa, Mannaar and Mullaiththeevu districts, was responding to an earlier letter by NPC Chief Minister. In that letter, the Deputy DIG, a Sinhalese, was citing a report from a subordinate Sinhalese Police SSP from Mullaiththeevu to him as stating that “the ministry of land couldn't intervene in to this matter and step is being taken” by the AGA of Mullaiththeevu Mr Muhudubaba paththu, to give an alternate land to the complainant.

On 05 January, NPC Councillor from Mullaiththeevu Mr Thurairasa Ravikaran sent a letter to the Chief Minister bringing the matter to his attention again. Mr Ravikaran, in his letter pointed out that the Divisional Secretary had failed to take action.

On 18 January, NPC Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran sent a reply to the SL Police DIG stating that the decision of the AGA to identify and allocate an alternate land to the legal owner of the land allowing the Buddhist Priest to construct a Buddhist temple on the private land was unacceptable.

“Instead the AGA should have identified a land suitable for the Buddhist temple in the vicinity and allowed the legal owner to re-take posession of the land in question. The procedure adopted by the AGA is creating a precedent to takeover forcibly any private land transgressing the law,” Justice Wigneswaran said in his letter. A copy of the letter was also forwarded to the concerned AGA.

“The AGA has thus failed in his to file action in court of law against the Buddhist Priest though he is empowered to do so under the Land Development Ordinance section 102. This is a gross violation of Human Rights on the part of all concerned,” the NPC Chief Minister said.

“I therefore request you to take immediate action to hand the land back to the legal owner Mr Somasuntharam Thirugnanasampanthar and find an alternative land in the vicinity to the Buddhist Priest for his proposed shrine/temple in terms of the Law.”
