While UN charges ISIS for genocide, SL military gets space for exoneration
[TamilNet, Wednesday, 25 March 2015, 23:25 GMT]
While deferring the report on Sri Lanka, the UN Human Rights Office acting in sharp contrast called on the UN Security Council earlier this month to refer the ISIS to International Criminal Court, charging the ISIS for genocide committed against Yezidi people in Iraq as well as for crimes against humanity and war crimes against civilians including children. Obviously the contrast comes from the fact that the genocide of Eezham Tamils was determined by the USA and India, conducted by a military needed by the both, and was allowed by the UN. The regime change in Colombo is yet another time and space tactic to exonerate the genocidal Sinhala military and to use it as anchor for the furtherance of the original designs of the ultimate culprits, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics, citing recent reports coming from Colombo.
Colombo media The Island, serialised some reports this month, on War Crimes in Sri Lanka: What the International Experts Say.
The experts were Prof Michael Newton, Professor of the Practice of Law, Vanderbilt University School of Law; Sir Geoffrey Nice QC and Rodney Dixon QC; Professor DM Crane and Sir Desmond de Silva QC.
The reports were made September last year, but one of them by David M. Crane and Desmond de Silva cited the situation faced by the West with the ISIS for arguing why the Sri Lanka military should be exonerated and upheld by the international system.
While countering each and every point made by these legal pundits who go to the extent of arguing for collective punishment of a people, is left to the nation of Eezham Tamils currently denied of ‘proportional’ space or ‘symmetric’ security in any investigation, the reports have to be carefully perused by everyone to get the thrust of the thinking in the camp of the international and local military- paradigm-setters.
The thrust is exonerating the Sri Lanka military and even crediting it for ending a “multi-generational struggle against the LTTE.” For the way the war was ended arguments go like defending the deployment of atom bombs on Japan. Arguments defending the SL military cite US-Israel outlook as role model. The most sinister part of the thrust that bares the genocidal orientation of the whole exercise is passing the blame ultimately on the people who were with the LTTE in the struggle.
While exonerating and upholding the military with the State label ‘Sri Lanka military’, what is completely forgotten is the fact that it is not a ‘Sri Lanka’ military but a Sinhala military.
The premise once again stems from the UNHRC position set by the USA, in which neither the word Tamil nor the nation nature of the conflict is recognised. The USA had set the stage for looking at a local but chronic national crisis through its international military perspectives, in which the genocidal Sinhala military was needed. There is no change in the outlook.
It is under such circumstances the regime change is made in Colombo jointly by Washington and New Delhi in strategic partnership, but the military will stay, expand its activities and may even control the regime in Colombo.
The NPC Chief Minister has righteously and aptly made the call for international investigation on the protracted genocide, to set the logical directions of the struggle in the milieu of the deception by international military minds.
The Tamil Nadu State government that made the call earlier was silenced by New Delhi having military to military relationship with the genocidal Sinhala military.
Any political formation that is going to be forged by Eezham Tamils in the island should be able to understand and address the issue of international military minds endorsing selective genocides. Only those who could stand upright in addressing the issue could be the leaders of Tamils. The future of Eezham Tamils depends on the intelligent identification and promotion of such personalities and rejection of others.
