Terms may not be important but
the thrust matters

What is practically delivered matters more than terms such as international justice, genocide investigation, federalism etc., is the argument of Tamil orchestrators envisaging ‘non-descript’ outcome through ‘hybrid mechanism’. Tamils in their long experience have seen how concepts and coining terms were the monopoly of some and what outcome has come through terms such as international terrorism, peace facilitation, reconciliation etc. The fundamental injustice in the Washington/ New Delhi/ UN approach is the insistence in vantage exclusively from the point of saving or reforming the colonially created State and brutal suppression of space for the nation of Eezham Tamils to even enter into a discourse from another point. The genocide denial or detraction is just a manifestation, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics.
After long experience with the British-created State, in which the Tamil nation was consistently deceived by the colonial imperialist outlook of the British and later by the genocidal outlook of the Sinhala State, finally Eezham Tamils have decided to democratically reject the State in 1972-1977. The subsequent militant struggle was basically rejection of the ‘Sri Lankan’ State.
The war of genocide and crimes was fought on that issue, but it is not fundamentally an issue involving just the LTTE and ‘Sri Lanka’ governments.
While any justifiable international move for discourse or investigation should give equal international space for both the nations to discuss the fundamental national question not excluding separation, the Washington/ New Delhi/ UN approach that had already given genocidal victory to the State, now delivers the most fundamental victory by prodding Tamils into a discourse confined to the State.
The British did it to territorial world imperialism. But the world has ‘moved forward’ to ‘Space Age’, to be seen as a mere ball, for the US ‘global dominance’ to further the same outlook in a grand scale.
This is where Tamils are fundamentally deceived and served with injustice.
Whether domestic or hybrid, the approach is State-centric that has no space for fundamental counter opinion of the affected side.
Rejection of national question in the island and rejection of genocide are just two sides of the same coin.
The OHCHR spokesperson on Monday said, “The crime of genocide requires specific objective and subjective elements. On the basis of the information we were able to gather, we did not come to the conclusion that these elements were met,” reported The Hindu.
What else one could expect from the UNHRC, when the US moves, right from their inception, didn’t even mention the word Tamil?
As argued by the US-agenda activists, words may not be important. But Tamils grasping the thrust is important.
In this case the thrust is denial of the national question and confinement of the discourse to the unit of the existing State, which only upholds the original agenda.
The opposition coming from the Sinhala nation for any justifiable probe or solution in the island could never be addressed when the approach is fundamentally defective. The Sarath Fonseka interviews are just small examples. The majority within 'the majority' should not be overlooked in the genocidal State context, while thinking of the Colombo-centric few harping on agent-State dominance of the island.
Rather than enlightening Tamil masses and world opinion on the consistent deception and injustice in the fundamentals, some simulated Tamil politicians of the US agenda talk like insurance company lawyers in the detraction of genocide investigation.
More amusing is seeing some former ‘Peking Wing’ campus Marxists and former opponents of the New Delhi move of late 1980s being in the same company of the current orchestrators.
Defending the US/ UN orchestration, a feature in The Hindu on Saturday said, “The stand of political parties in Tamil Nadu strongly in favour of an independent, international investigation is in line with the expectation of humanists and activists across the world. However, they should recognise that having a credible probe that is feasible in a given context is more important than the specific mechanism used.”
But the thrust of the mechanism in this instance is not any ‘credible probe’ but prodding Tamils to ‘reconcile’ to single State in the island.
On the other hand, New Delhi on its part seems to be busy in bargaining for land bridge and defence treaties, signaling that it will only make the case at Geneva to go from bad to worse.
The persistently dangerous trend in the so-called Indian national media in English is the suppression of news related to uprising of grassroot in Tamil Nadu to the outside world, even if it goes to the extent of arrests in historical numbers, just as they suppressed the magnitude of the genocidal onslaught of Eezham Tamils when it took place. What is the message they give, asked the Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.
