Relatives of missing persons in East to boycott SL elections
[TamilNet, Monday, 03 August 2015, 23:28 GMT]
The organisations representing the kith and kin of the missing persons in Trincomalee have resolved to boycott the Sri Lankan General Elections as politicians involved in the electoral politics have failed to deliver anything so far during the regimes of Rajapaksa and Sirisena, civil sources in Trincomalee told TamilNet on Monday.
Earlier, uprooted people from Champoor in Trincomalee had resolved to boycott the SL elections as they were disappointed with Sampanthan-Sumanthiran polity of the TNA. However, EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran, who is competing with the ITAK within the TNA formation chose to appoint a candidate from Champoor, causing a change in favour of participation in the elections, informed civil sources in Champoor told TamilNet.
The uprooted peoples organisations and the welfare organisations representing the interests of the missing persons in the Northern Province have already informed their decision of boycotting the elections.
A protest has been organised involving the civil activists among Eezham Tamils in Trincomalee, Ampaa'rai and Batticaloa at Trincomalee Sivan temple.
