The SL Government in Colombo and the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) have failed to allocate financial resources to resettle the uprooted people in Batticaloa district, EPC Councillor R. The uprooted people from seven of fourteen divisions in the district have been struggling without proper assistance while Colombo and the EPC keep ignoring their needs despite repeated appeals, he said.

The uprooted people from a number of villages in five of fourteen divisions in Batticaloa districts are yet to be resettled, the EPC councillor said.

Mr Thurairatnam said he had complained to the Resettlement Ministry of the Colombo Government and the EPC at least 28 times.

The people uprooted from Karungkaaliyadich-cheanai, Mu'rakkoddaagn-cheanai and Mu'l'li-vadduvaan villages in Kiraan DS division, Elvaththai-madu and a section of Punaa'nai in Vaakarai DS division, Ea'raavoor 4th Ward and Aavaddiyaa-ve'li in Chengkaladi division, Valaiyi'ravu village in Ma'nmunai North division and Paalamunai and Chinna-vaththai villages in Vellaa-ve'li division have not been resettled.

At the same time, people who have been allowed to resettle in Kevu'liyaa-madu, Kachchatkodi Chuvaami-malai in Paddippazhai division, Chippi-madu and Paavatkodich-cheanai in Vavu'natheevu division, Punaa'nai in Vaakarai division and Vada-munai, Ooththuch-cheanai and Mayilanthanai in Kiraan division, have not received fundamental facilities for proper resettlement, Thurairatnam said.
