Former Tamil Eelam policeman shot dead in Mannaar

Unknown gunmen, believed to be the intelligence operatives of the Sri Lankna military, have shot and killed a former constable of Tamil Eelam Police at Ve’l’laang-ku’lam in Mannaar district Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m., news sources in Mannaar said. The victim, 34-year-old Sinniah Nakuleswaran, was cutting cement stones together with his wife for their resettlement house being constructed under the Indian Housing assistance, when the incident took place, according to initial reports. Mr Nakuleswaran, as several other former LTTE members, was facing continuous harassment from the occupying SL military in the former LTTE administered area.

The killing comes while the SL military has stepped up harassment of former LTTE members, especially before the Tamil Eelam Heroes Day on 27 November, the sources said.

Nakuleswaran was released after SL military custody following the genocidal onslaught on Vanni.

In the meantime, Sri Lankan military intelligence has deployed civil officials working under the SL Ministry of Resettlement, to collect particulars of the ex-LTTE members who are re-united with their families. The officials visiting the settlement had also instructed the former LTTE members not to change their mobile phone numbers without informing them.

Tension prevails at the settlement of Easan-kudiyiruppu at Kaneasapuram of Ve’l’laangku’lam.
