SLA appropriates more lands for militarisation of Jaffna city

While the occupying Sri Lanka Army in the city of Jaffna claims on one hand that it is shifting the military base of 512 Division to Koappaay, more lands are being appropriated for military use in the city. The Sri Lankan colonial military governor in Jaffna, Maj Gen (retd) GA Chandrasiri has instructed the Secretary of Education of Jaffna Province, S. Sathiyaseelan to hand over the lands belonging to Sinhala MV, situated in the environs of St. Mary's School, Our Lady of Refuge (OLR) and within a residential area boxed by 4th Cross Street, Hospital Road, Veampadi Road and Martin Road, to the commander of Sri Lankan forces in Jaffna Maj Gen Mahinda Hathursinghe for the construction of a military base in the city.

Details have now emerged that the Sri Lanka Army has begun to construct a permanent military camp in the lands that belong to Sinhala MV School, which comes under the management of the provincial education ministry in the city.

The occupying Sri Lankan forces are already maintaining a ‘Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office of Security Force HQ Jaffna’ on Hospital Road near the OLR church.

The so-called civil affairs camp has been a notorious establishment of the SLA in city, from where it carried out extra judicial white van abductions. This camp is situated in the lands that have already been appropriated from private land-owners, north of Hospital Road.

The office of Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission is also situated in the area.

The SL military, claiming that it was closing down the main base of 512 Division, situated in the lands comprising Gnanam Hotel and Subas Hotel, appropriated a much larger area in Koappaay after destroying Tamil Heroes Cemetery.

At the same time, the SL military has grabbed more lands in the suburbs of Jaffna city, such as along Pa'n'nai and the coastal areas, grabbing much more lands than what it handed back.

Despite facing legal disputes, the SLA has occupied a large number of private lands also in Naavatkuzhi and in Kaakkaitheevu in the suburbs of the Jaffna city.

The SL military is strengthening its military grip on the city of Jaffna with a long-term colonial military perspective of Sinhalicisation and colonisation, political observers in Jaffna said.

குன்னூர், ஜூலை 15: இலங்கை ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு இந்தியாவில் பயிற்சி அளிக்கக் கூடாது என்று தமிழக முதல்வர் உள்பட எதிர்க்கட்சிகள் பலவும் எதிர்ப்புக் குரல் எழுப்பின. இந்நிலையில், தமிழகத்தில் அவர்கள் பயிற்சி பெற இருந்தது, பெங்களூருக்கு என்று மாற்றி அமைக்கப்பட்டது. இதற்கும் எதிர்ப்புக் குரல் எழுந்தது. இந்தியாவில் எங்குமே இலங்கை ராணுவத்தினர் பயிற்சி பெறக்கூடாது என்று கண்டனங்களும் ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களும் நடந்து வருகின்றனர்.குன்னூருக்கு அருகே கொடநாடு பகுதியில் தமிழக முதல்வர் தங்கியுள்ளார். அவரைக் காண அமைச்சர்கள் பலரும் வந்து சென்றுள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில், குன்னூரில் தாஜ் ஹோட்டலில் இலங்கை ராணுவ அதிகாரிகள் 4 பேர் வந்து தங்கியுள்ளனர். இவர்களுக்கு குன்னூரில் எம்.ஆர்.சி எனப்படும் மெட்ராஜ் ரெஜிமெண்ட் செண்டரில் பயிற்சி வகுப்பு இருப்பதாகவும், அவர்கள் இன்று குன்னூரில் சுற்றுப் பயணம் செய்துவிட்டு, நாளை நடக்கும் வகுப்பு மற்றும் கருத்தரங்கில் கலந்து கொள்வர் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.இலங்கையில் தமிழர்களுக்கு எதிராக போர்க்குற்றங்களில் ஈடுபட்ட இலங்கை ராணுவத்துக்கு எதிராக, தமிழகத்தில் ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்கள் எதிர்ப்பு என அரசியல் சூழ்நிலை நிலவும்போது, இந்தச் செய்தி குன்னூரில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. முதல்வரும் அந்தப் பகுதியில் தங்கியிருப்பதால், இது பெரும் பிரச்னையை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று கருதப்படுகிறது. இந்நிலையில், இதற்கு எதிர்ப்புக் குரல் எழுந்ததை அடுத்து, போலீஸார் தாஜ்-கேட் வே விடுதிக்கு முன்னர் குவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.  பாதுகாப்பு அந்தப் பகுதியில் பலப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

குன்னூர், ஜூலை.15: குன்னூரில் உள்ள ராணுவ முகாமில் பயிற்ச்சியில பங்கேற்க வந்திருந்த இலங்கை ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவித்து மதிமுக வினர் சாலைமறியலில் ஈடுப்பட்டதால் குன்னூர் மேட்டுப்பாளையம் சாலையில் அரைமணிநேரம் போக்குவரத்து பாதிப்பு எற்பட்டது.குன்னூரில் உள்ள ராணுவ முகாமில்  பயிற்ச்சிப் பெறுவதற்காக ஞாயிற்றுக் கிழமை 10 நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்த ராணுவ அதிகாரிகள் குன்னூர் கேட்வே தங்கும் விடுதிக்கு வந்திருந்தனர். இவர்களில் இரண்டு இலங்கை ராணுவ அதிகாரிகளும் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தனர். இவர்களுக்கு திங்கள் கிழமை காலை குன்னூர் டிஎஸ்எஸ்சி எனப்படும் டிபன்ஸ் சர்வீஸ் ஸ்டாப் காலேஜில் ராணுவ பயிற்ச்சி அளிக்க உள்ளதாக தகவல்கள் பரவின இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து. மதிமுகவைச் சேர்ந்த கோவை மாவட்ட செயலர் ஆர்.எஸ்.மோகன குமார், கோவை புறநகர் மாவட்ட செயலர் ஈஸ்வரன் உள்ளிட்ட  20 ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மதிமுகவினர்  நீலகிரி மாவட்ட செயலர் அட்டாரி நஞ்சன் தலைமையில் குன்னூர் கேட்வே தங்கும் விடுதியினுள் நுழைய முயன்றனர் இவர்களை காவல் துறையினர் குன்னூர் லெவல் கிராசிங் பகுதியில் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினர். இதனால் காவல் துறையினருக்கும் மதிமுகவினருக்கும் இடையே தள்ளுமுள்ளு ஏற்பட்டது. இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து  இவர்கள் சாலை மறியலில் ஈடுபட்டனர். இதனால் கோவை வழித் தடத்தில் அரை மணி நேரத்திற்கும மேலாக போக்குவரத்து பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. இதேப் போன்று உதகை தாஜ்  ஓட்டலை முற்றுகையிட முயன்ற 30ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மதிமுகவினரை காவல்  துறையினர் கைது செய்தனர். இந்த சாலை மறியல் போராட்டத்தில் உதகை நகர செயலர் மணிவண்ணன்,மாவட்ட துணை செயலர் விஜயகுமார்,குன்னூர் நகரசெயலர் கிங்ஸ் ராஜன், பொதுக் குழு உறுப்பினர் பி.சி சேகர், கோத்தகிரி ஒன்றிய செயலர் ராமகிருஷ்ணன், முன்னாள் நகர செயலர் தமிழகம் சபி, உள்ளிட்ட பலர் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

இலங்கை ராணுவ அதிகாரிகளுக்கு குன்னூரில் பயிற்சி தர எதிர்ப்பு: பெரியார் திராவிட கழகம்

தமிழ்நாட்டில் நடைபெறும் ராணுவ முகாமிற்கு இலங்கை அதிகாரிகளை அனுமதித்ததற்கு கடும் எதிர்ப்பு கிளம்பியுள்ளது. ராணுவ தகவல் பரிமாற்றம் தொடர்பான பயிற்சி முகாம் குன்னூரில் நாளை நடக்கிறது. இதில் பங்கேற்பதற்காக இலங்கை, வங்கதேசம், சீனாவைச் சேர்ந்த் 40 ராணுவ அதிகாரிகள் குன்னூரில் உள்ள வெலிங்டன் ராணுவக் கல்லூரிக்கு வந்துள்ளனர்.

இதில் இலங்கை சார்பில் 4 அதிகாரிகள் வந்துள்ளனர். ஏற்கனவே தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள தாம்பரம் முகாமில் இலங்கை விமானப்படை வீரர்கள், பயிற்சி பெற்றபோது கடும் எதிர்ப்பு கிளம்பியது. இதையடுத்து அந்த வீரர்களை மத்திய அரசு வாபஸ் பெற்றது.

இந்நிலையில் இலங்கை அதிகாரிகள் வெலிங்டன் ராணுவ கல்லூரிக்கு வந்திருப்பது, மீண்டும் சர்ச்சையை ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது. அங்கிருந்து இலங்கை அதிகாரிகளை உடனே வெளியேற்ற வேண்டும் என்று பெரியார் திராவிடர் கழகம் மற்றும் விடுதலை சிறுத்தைகள் கட்சி வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளன.

இலங்கை அதிகாரிகளை வெளியேற்றாவிட்டால் வெலிங்டன் கல்லூரியை முற்றுகையிட்டு போராட்டம் நடத்துவோம் என்றும் பெரியார் தி.க. எச்சரித்துள்ளது.

Sri Lanka's descent to dictatorship

"...three years after the war ended, human rights groups and opposition leaders warn that the country is descending toward dictatorship, with dissent brutally crushed, the media cowed and the minority Tamils, whose insurrection caused the war in the first place, still treated like second-class citizens," Washington Post said in the Friday edition, adding, "[a]s the scorched earth campaign entered its final stages in 2009, it cost tens of thousands of lives – a U.N. report called for an investigation into war crimes by both sides, accusing the Tigers of using civilians as human shields and the Sri Lankan military of indiscriminate shelling and denying civilians access to humanitarian aid."

Noting that "the disappearances of government opponents are perhaps the most obvious manifestation of a regime gone wrong," the paper said, "[t]his year, 52 people have gone missing in the south of the country."

The paper adds, "[a]fter a thumping election victory in 2010, Rajapaksa changed the constitution not only to increase his powers over the police, judiciary and civil service, but also to end the two-term limit for the presidency. He then arrested his opponent in the elections, Sarath Fonseka, and jailed him for two years.

"The president’s brother Gotabhaya runs the security apparatus and parts of the economy through the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development; another brother, Basil, heads the Ministry of Economic Development, and a third is parliamentary speaker. Other close family members serve as ambassadors or chief ministers, while a nephew runs the state airline. Corruption, business leaders and lawyers say, is at an all-time high," the Washington Post said.

The paper noted in conclusion that "despite the challenges, diplomats and officials said the United States and India are determined to remain engaged with Sri Lanka. Neither country wants Sri Lanka to follow Burma’s path into increasing isolation from the West, or to push it more deeply into China’s embrace, the officials say."

The occupying Sri Lankan military in Jaffna has occupied new lands in Maathakal, leaving 279 more families without homes. The latest reports say that the Sri Lankan military is silently evicting people from their homes in areas that are situated outside the former ‘High Security Zone’, civil sources in Valikaamam North said.

While Colombo has declared Thiruvadi-nilai and 200 meters surrounding the coastal spot as a ‘Holy Zone’, the SL Navy has refused entry to people of the area to lands that are situated even beyond the so-called Holy Zone.

Meanwhile, a long coast stretch of land from Maathakal to KKS has been leased out to Malaysia-based corporate of Chinese connections to set up a wind-mill and solar electricity farm.

India is involved in ‘developing’ KKS Harbour and Palaali airport in the SL military ‘High Security Zone’.

The SL military doesn't allow Eezham Tamils to visit Thiruvadi-nilai. Only Sinhala visitors from South are allowed to visit the ‘Holy Zone’, where a Buddhist stupa was put up after the end of war.

In the meantime, Sri Lanka Navy has also occupied lands along the coast, constructing hundreds of houses along the strip for the families of SL Navy sailors. A naval base has also been established, making the area into a military cantonment.

Civilians who used to visit their houses in the areas where land mines were cleared, have been recently threatened by the SL Navy not to enter the area. The SL military has also put up noticeboards warning land mines. The civilians have also complained of witnessing new landmines being planted in their lands.

The latest report of SL military occupying more lands has been reported outside the former HSZ.

The people of Maathakal have been repeatedly protesting against the land grab.

SL Minister operates armed gang causing ethnic tension in Mannaar

A Muslim gang, carrying guns, stormed the fishing village of Koanthaip-piddi in Mannaar Town division on Friday and destroyed 23 fishing huts and two fiberglass boats with axes, causing ethnic tension between Tami Catholics and Muslims. Rishard Badurdeen, a politician from Mannaar, who has become SL minister of Industry & Commerce in Mahinda Rajapaksa’s cabinet after defecting the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), is alleged of inciting ethnic violence in Mannaar attempting to woo Muslim voters in favour of Rajapaksa's ruling SLFP.

About 800 of 3,200 fisher families, most of them Catholics, who had displaced from Vidaththal-theevu village in 1999 following a military operation by the occupying Sri Lankan forces, sought refuge and later settled down in ‘Joseph Vaas Nakar’ village in Mannaar DS division.

A fisheries jetty was constructed at Koanthaip-piddi to facilitate the livelihood of the Catholic fishermen settled in Joseph Vaas village.

In the meantime, Muslims, who were evicted by the LTTE in 1990 and who have begun to resettle in recent years, have been claiming that the jetty of Koanthaip-piddi belonged to Muslims, who lived in Uppuk-ku'lam.

The dispute was being resolved through civil sources at the divisional and district level.

According to a decision taken at a conference held on 26 June 2012 by the civil officials, new lands were allocated at 2nd Mile Post along Mannaar main road for the 800 fisher families from Vidaththal-theevu.

But, the newly allocated lands were already subjected to a legal dispute. An interim injunction order restricting settlement was issued on 29 June.

As a result, the Catholic fisher families were deprived from residing in Joseph Vaas Nakar and also in the new land located along Mannaar main road as the said land is in legal dispute.

The fisher families, undergoing hardship to earn for their day to day survival, resumed their usual fishing activities using the jetty at Koanthaip-piddi as earlier.

It is at this juncture, the armed gang, allegedly operated by the SL minister Rishard Badurdeen triggered a section of Muslims, numbering around 300, who concluded Jumma Prayer on Friday noon to walk with them to threaten the Catholic fishermen.

The latest episode of deploying armed Muslim gang and inciting violence is reported while the SL minister was staying in Mannaar.

Rishard Badurdeen, engaged in land grab and exploitation, has also gone on record threatening Rt. Rev. Dr. Rayappu Joseph, the Catholic Bishop of Mannaar, in a public address in the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Tamil, Muslim farmers in Trincomalee file writ application against land appropriation [TamilNet, Friday, 13 July 2012, 23:29 GMT] Two member bench of the Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal on Wednesday fixed the inquiry for August 28 into the writ application filed by a group of Tamil and Muslim farmers against the appropriation of their fertile paddy fields for the construction of a high way by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in Thampalakaamam of Trincomalee district. The petitioners A.M.A Fareed of Ki'n'niyaa, Seenithamby Sathiyanathan, Sinnarasa Theivanayagi and Kurukulapoopalasingham Thilakaretnam, all are from Thampalakamam have cited the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, SLAF captain in Choorankal, officers of the Road Construction Authority and Village officers (GS) of the respective division where the paddy fields are located. The writ application was taken up for inquiry on Wednesday. The bench comprised Justice S.Sriskandarajah, President of the Court of Appeal and Justice Deepali Wijesundera. Counsel M.A.Sumanthiran with Counsels Ms. Bavani Fonseka and Ms. J.Arulanandam appeared for the petitioners and submitted to court that several acres of fertile paddy fields have been appropriated by the Sri Lanka Air Force, without the consent of the landowners, to construct a highway to connect the Air Force base in the area with Colombo. Owners of the paddy fields have not been informed of such land acquisition. Lands have been appropriated without legal basis, the counsels argued. எந்த அகவை யிலும் எவரெசுட்டு ஏறலாம்;

எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரத்தில் ஏறியவர்களிலேயே மிகவும் வயதான பெண் என்ற சாதனையை படைத்துள்ளார் ஜப்பானைச் சேர்ந்த தமேய் வடானபி. இவர் சிகரத்தின் உச்சியை தொட்ட போது இவரது வயது 73 ஆண்டுகளும், 180 நாட்களுமாகும்.
சாதாரண விவசாய குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தவரான தமேய் சிறு வயது முதலே கடுமையான உழைப்பாளியாவார். அதிகாலை எழுந்து அப்பாவுடன் நிலத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் பாய்ச்சும் ஆண்களுக்கு நிகரான வேலைகளை அசராமல் பார்த்துவிட்டு, பிறகு ஆறு கிலோமீட்டர் தூரம் உள்ள பள்ளிக்கு நடந்தே போய் படித்துவிட்டு திரும்புவார். திரும்பிய பிறகு மலையென குவிந்திருக்கும் வீட்டு வேலைகளையும் செய்து முடித்துவிட்டே உறங்கப்போவார்.

இவரது இந்த உழைப்புதான் மலையேற அழைப்பு விடுத்தது எனலாம். அங்குள்ள பள்ளியொன்றில் வேலை பார்த்துக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் போது முதன் முதலாக ஒரு சிறு மலைமீது ஏறும் சந்தர்ப்பம் அமைந்தது. அப்போது அவருக்கு வயது 27. அந்த சம்பவம் தந்த சந்தோஷம் காரணமாக பிறகு ஜப்பானில் உள்ள மலைகளில் எல்லாம் சர்வ சாதாரணமாக ஏறி இறங்கிவிட்டார். மலையேறுவதே இவரது பொழுதுபோக்கு என்றானாலும், பொருளாதாரம் காரணமாக எவரெஸ்ட் ஏறுவது மட்டும் தள்ளிப் போய்க்கொண்டே இருந்தது.

வேலையில் இருந்து ஒய்வு பெற்ற பிறகு ஜப்பானில் உள்ள புகழ்பெற்ற பியூஜி மலையேறும் குழுவினருக்கு வழிகாட்டியாகவும், ஆலோசகராகவும் செயல்பட்டார். இந்த நிலையில்தான் தமேய்க்கு எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் போகும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. ஆனால் அப்போது அவருக்கு வயது 62.

சாகசசம் புரிய நினைப்பவர்களின் உச்சகட்ட சாதனையே எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் ஏறுவதுதான். இதற்காக இளமை முறுக்கோடு கிளம்பிய 284 பேர்களில் இவர்தான் வயதானவர். ஆனால் 284 பேரில் குளிர்தாங்காமல் இறந்தவர்கள், ஏற முடியாமல் நின்றவர்கள், இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் நேரம் இருந்தாலும் இறந்துவிடுவேன் என்று அடித்து பிடித்து திரும்பியவர்கள் எல்லாம் போக எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் தொட்ட 82 பேர்களில் இவரும் ஒருவர்.

எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் தொட்ட வயதானவர் என்ற சாதனையை தனது 62 வயதில் ஏற்படுத்திய தமேய், தன் சாதனையை தானே முறியடிக்கும் வகையில் 11 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து தற்போது கடந்த வாரம் தனது 73 வயதில் மீண்டும் எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் தொட்டு திரும்பியுள்ளார்.

இடையில் தனது 65 வயதில் ஒரு முறை எவரெஸ்ட் சிகரம் ஏறும்போது கடுமையான பனிப்புயலில் சிக்கி முதுகில் பலத்த காயமடைந்தார். எழுந்து நடக்கவே மாட்டார் என்று எல்லோரும் கருதியபோது, தனது மனவலிமை காரணமாக துள்ளி எழுந்தவர் கடுமையான பயிற்சி எடுத்து இந்த முறை வீழ்ச்சியின்றி எழுச்சி பெற்றுவிட்டார்.

இந்த சாதனை தனக்கு சந்தோஷம் தந்தாலும் கடந்த பதினொரு ஆண்டுகளில் எவரெஸ்ட் மிகவும் மாறிவிட்டதாக வேதனையும் படுகிறார், முன்பு பனி படர்ந்து அடர்ந்து இருந்த இடங்கள் எல்லாம், இப்போது நீர் நிலையாக நீண்டு காணப்படுகிறது. இது உலகம் வேகமாக வெப்பமயமாகி வருவதன் (குளோபல் வார்மிங்) அறிகுறியே, இதனை தடுத்து நிறுத்திட நிறைய விழிப்புணர்வு தேவை அது இளைஞர்களிடம் இன்னும் தேவை, ஏனெனில் இனி உலகம் அவர்களின் கையில்,அவர்களது உலகத்தை காப்பாற்ற அவர்கள்தான் முன்வரவேண்டும் என்கிறார்.

ராஜபாளையம்: ராஜபாளையம் நக்கனேரியை சேர்ந்தவர் கருப்பையா, 73. முன்பு மரம் வெட்டும் தொழிலில் ஈடுபட்ட இவர், அந்த வருமானம் மூலம் மகன் தமிழ்செல்வனை படிக்க வைத்தார். தற்போது மகன் ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தாரில் உள்ள பள்ளியில் தலைமை ஆசிரியராக உள்ளார். மகனது அறிவுரையால், வனம், மரங்களால் ஏற்படும் நன்மைகளை உணர்ந்த கருப்பையா, மரங்களை வெட்டியதற்கு பிராயச்சித்தமாக தற்போது, மரக்கன்றுகளை நட்டு வருகிறார். ரோட்டோரம், பள்ளி, ரேஷன் கடை, மேல்நிலை குடிநீர் தொட்டி சுற்றுபகுதி, அரசு அலுவலக காலி இடங்களில் தனது சொந்த செலவிலே மரக்கன்றுகளை நடுகிறார். மனிதர்கள் மற்றும் விலங்குகளிடம் இருந்து பாதுகாக்க, கம்பி வலை அடித்து, தள்ளுவண்டியுடன் சென்று தண்ணீர் ஊற்றுகிறார்.

கருப்பையா கூறுகையில், ""ஒரு மரத்தில் எறும்பு முதல் பறவைகள் வரை வாழ்கின்றன. மரங்கள் எல்லா உயிர்களுக்கும் நிழல், மழை தருகின்றன, என்பதை உணர்ந்த நான், முன்பு செய்த தவறுக்கு பிராயசித்தம் தேடி ,2003 முதல் மரக்கன்றுகளை நட துவங்கினேன். அதன்படி தெற்கு வெங்காநல்லூர் 65, கொல்லங்கொண்டான் ரோடில்75, நக்கனேரி 300 என, பல கிராமங்களில், புங்கை, வேம்பு, மருதம், அரசமரம், ஆலமரம், புளி, இலுப்பை என , மரக்கன்றுகளை நட்டு உள்ளேன். எனது ஆர்வத்தை பார்த்த பலர், வீடு தேடி வந்து மரக்கன்றுகளை வாங்கி செல்கின்றனர். மகன் தரும் பணத்தில் எனது செலவு போக மீதியை, மரக்கன்றுகளை நட செலவிடுகிறேன். வயதானதால், தண்ணீர் குடத்துடன் வண்டியை தள்ள முடியவில்லை. அதற்கு வனத்துறை போன்ற அரசு அமைப்புகள் உதவினால் , இன்னும் பல மரங்களை நட முடியும்,'' என்றார். தொடர்புக்கு: 94882 12911.
