Displacement continues 22 years for coastal people of northern Jaffna

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 04 April 2012, 23:14 GMT] Resettlement Committee of the Displaced Citizens of Valikaamam North (RCDCVN) and Valikaamam North Fishermen Societies Union on Wednesday handed over an appeal addressed to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa through the SL Government Agent in Jaffna Ms. Imelda Sugumar, reminding the SL president that the people of Valikaamam North, especially those from the coastal villages, have not been allowed to resettle in their own soil for 22 years.

Even after three years have elapsed since the end of the war, the resettlement has not commenced, they said urging speedy resettlement of the people of Kaangkeasan-thu'rai, Oo'ra'ni, Mayiliddith-thu'rai, Mayiliddi North, Palaali North, Palaali North West in Valikaamaam North.

Mr A. Kunabalasingham, the president of the committe of the displaced civilians of Valikaamam North and the secretary of the organisation Mr V. Selvaratnam have signed the appeal, which was handed over to Ms Imelda Sugumar.

The copy of the letter was also forwarded to foreign diplomats, the representatives of the committee of the displaced citizens of Valikaamam North said.
