New Delhi resorts to further ‘mischief’ by passing responsibility

[TamilNet, Sunday, 26 August 2012, 10:45 GMT]
While New Delhi establishment’s foreign ministry points to defence ministry over the “mischief” issue raised by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa, about India giving training to Colombo’s military personnel in Tamil Nadu behind the back of Tamil Nadu government, the defence ministry sources reportedly have said that any decision on this would have to be taken by the Indian Prime Minister. Knowing the weak and guided personality of the Indian PM on matters related to Eezham Tamils, the establishment in New Delhi is playing further mischief, informed circles said. Those who are ultimately responsible for the genocidal policy of imperialism followed in the island have to be exposed and they have to be made answerable to the people of Tamil Nadu and peoples of India, political activists in Chennai said, appreciating the stand taken by Ms Jayalalithaa.

New Delhi providing training to Colombo’s military personnel at Wellington in Tamil Nadu since May 2012 had been mischievously concealed from the Tamil Nadu government protesting such training, accused the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in a letter to the Indian PM on Saturday.

The Wellington base in the Neelagiri district of Tamil Nadu is the headquarters of the colonial-famed Madras Regiment of the Indian Army.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday over the strongly worded protest by Ms Jayalithaa, Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said, “As far as we are concerned, this is a defence ministry matter and we are in touch with them.”

Meanwhile, news sources that contacted a highly placed defence ministry official told TamilNet that the defence ministry had no clue about any review of the decision on the Sri Lankan military personnel getting training in Tamil Nadu.

According to defence ministry officials, “any decision on this will have to be taken by the PMO [Prime Minister’s Office],” the news sources cited.

In keeping with the general policy inertia at the Centre, all the ministries are passing the buck. Both the defence and foreign ministries have ministers who are regional satraps and who have shown little understanding of the issues or enterprises, choosing to play safe and sticking to old positions and advise of the bureaucracy, political observers in New Delhi commented.

The Foreign Minister SM Krishna is from Karnataka and the Defence Minister AK Antony is from Kerala.

Bureaucrats, intelligence outfits and extra-parliamentary elements have long been allowed to play mischief to the extent of genocide on the question of Eezham Tamils.

In the meantime, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in the thick of the “Colgate” scam involving 18,500 million (18.5 billion) rupees. The opposition has called for his resignation and both the houses of the Indian parliament have seen noisy adjournments on the issue over the past week.
