SLFP threatens Tamils filing cases

SLFP threatens Tamils filing cases against Sinhala land grab in Ki'linochchi

[TamilNet, Sunday, 13 January 2013, 23:12 GMT]
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) men in Ki'linochchi have been threatening the Tamil land owners who have been filing cases against the Sinhalese from South who have occupied their lands. The SLFP men are behind ‘providing’ lands to the family members of the Sri Lanka Army soldiers and other Sinhalese from South. At least 15 cases are pending the Ki'linochchi courts against illegal land grab of priviate lands by the Sinhala settlers from South, legal sources in Ki'lnochchi told TamilNet.

A family of the occupying Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier has been illegally settled in the lands belonging to the Irrigation Department, at Karadip-poakku Junction in the suburb of Ki'linochchi town since December 2012.

While the Irrigation Department officials are struggling to get the occupying family to vacate the lands, the family has built a house and a restaurant at the occupied lands with the backing of the SLA and the SLFP.

Even the Health Department officials are unable to take any action against the occupants of the land.

In the meantime, another family from South has been settled inside a private land near Karadip-poakku junction. The land owner, a Tamil family man from Jaffna, complained with the SL Police that his land has been encroached.

However, the occupying family, backed by the SLFP gang, has filed a case claiming that the said land is their property.

In the meantime, the SLFP men in Ki'linochci are grabbing more lands of Eezham Tamils in Ki'linochchi district to settle Sinhala families from South, especially in Chivanakar, Uruththirapuram and along the spill canals of the Ira'naimadu Tank, news sources in Ki'linochchi further said.

SLFP-men issue death threat to journalists in Mannaar

SLFP-men issue death threat to journalists in Mannaar

[TamilNet, Monday, 16 July 2012, 19:39 GMT]
Two newspaper reporters in Mannaar have complained to Tamil Journalists Association in Vanni that ruling SLFP-men have issued death threats to them for their reporting on inciting violence at Koanthaip-piddi jetty on Friday. An armed Muslim gang incited a section of the Muslims after Jummah Prayer to join them in causing destruction to the boats of uprooted Tamil Catholics while the dispute between communities was being already addressed by the civil officials at divisional and district level.

Two journalists, S.R. Lambert and ASM Faszmi have complained that they have been issued death threats, Tamil media sources in Colombo said.

Meanwhile, informed sources in Mannaar told TamilNet that the men who have issued death threats are closely connected to SL minister of Industry & Commerce, Rishard Badurdeen,

The same gang that destroyed the boats on Friday, confronted one of the journalists, S.R. Lambert, while he was at the site of the incident witnessing the episode, the sources further said.

The other journalist, subjected to threat, is a Muslim journalist.

Two months ago, another Muslim journalist, 72-year-old MA Cader, who expressed solidarity with thousands of civilians who had gathered for a prayer expressing solidarity with Mannaar Bishop, was assaulted by a close-relative and an employee of Rsihard Badurdeen. The senior journalist was forcibly put into a pickup vehicle and attacked. The attack was reported after The SL Minister Badurdeen had issued veiled threats against Mannaar Bishop during a speech in the SL Parliament.

Colombo exerts political influence on government employments in East

Colombo exerts political influence on government employments in East

Unemployed Tamil graduates in the Batticaloa district are being forced by the Colombo government through its colonial agents in the Eastern Province to join SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA), to get job opportunities in the government sector. 2,800 unemployed graduates attended the interview examinations held at district secretariat last week.

The Colombo government has been holding interviews promising government employment only during election periods, each time, ahead of SL parliamentary, presidential, provincial and civic elections. The latest drive is reported ahead of the elections to Eastern Provincial Council expected to be held in September this year.

The Batticaloa District Government Agent Ms P.M. Charles had earlier said that the unemployed graduates would be prioritized based on the year they passed out when considering appointment.

However the Kalkuda organizer of the SLFP Mr Chandrapala has been telling in pubic meetings that those who joined the SLFP would be appointed as teachers.

Warning legal actions, the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians in the East have told the SL authorities at the district level to give priority to graduates who have passed out between 2004 and 2009.

SL colonial governor coordinates anti-UN demonstration of SLFP, EPDP in North

SL colonial governor coordinates anti-UN demonstration of SLFP, EPDP in North

[TamilNet, Monday, 27 February 2012, 16:41 GMT]
Occupying Sri Lanka’s colonial governor, Maj. Gen. G. A. Chandrasri was seen coordinating the two factions collaborating with the Rajapaksa regime, the Angkajan-led SLFP and Douglas Devananda-led EPDP, in staging a simulated demonstration in Jaffna and Vanni against UNHRC discussing Sri Lanka in Geneva on Monday. The simulation forced in sections and individuals waiting for benefits from the Colombo regime. An attendance register was maintained for the participants. However, a media clip captured comments of a passing-by youth street vendor, who universally encapsulated the game on the island. The youth told the unemployed graduates in the ‘demonstration’: “I am not educated like you to perform this act.” The youth has not said that to the ‘demonstrators’ alone, commented media circles witnessed the scene in Jaffna.

The US and UK buttress Sri Lanka’s LLRC hoodwink as solutions, but a game of fuss on implementation is simulated both in Geneva and in the island by the Colombo regime.

The US bloc and India that were in complicity with Sri Lanka in the genocidal war against Eezham Tamils try to limit the solutions to the implementation of the 13th Amendment and implementation of Colombo’s LLRC recommendations so that the identity and territoriality of Eezham Tamils as a nation could be annihilated and the colonial ‘victory’ of the majoritarian state could be consolidated.

Both the power blocs in partnership have found collaborating sections in the Tamil polity as well.

However, all are in the game in pretending great pressure, pretending great achievements and in sorting out petty nuances over time and space, political observers in the diaspora commented.

Chandrasiri coordinated demo in Jaffna

On Monday, carrying a Lion flag of his Sri Lankan state, the war crime alleged former commander of the SL forces in Jaffna and the current colonial governor Chandrasiri was insisting that the EPDP paramilitary of SL minister Douglas Devananda and the SLFP clique of Angkayan should come together in the UPFA demonstration in Jaffna. Mr. Devananda is part of the SL delegation currently in Geneva.

Hunting for people to take part in their protest, the EPDP and SLFP were competing in inviting the poverty-stricken victims of genocide, especially the families waiting for resettlement in housing-schemes, unemployed graduates awaiting government jobs, teachers who have sought transfer from remote areas, the family members of missing people still believed to be kept alive in SL incarceration and ‘rehabilitated’ former LTTE members subjected to various threats.

The victims were individually targeted in a pressure campaign to come to the office of the SLFP situated at Temple Road in Nalloor on Monday morning, if they were to get preference in receiving benefits or considerations.

Registries were maintained at the SLFP office to mark the attendance of the presence of the participants against the will. They were given with placards against the UN.

The victims were then instructed to take part in the ‘demonstration’ marching behind a huge cut-out of Mahinda Rajapaksa, chanting praises on him.

Chandrasiri, who coordinated the demonstration, disappeared from the scene just before the march reaching the UN office. He didn't want to be seen leading the demonstration in front of the UN offices.

The SLFP clique had earlier threatened the UN office in Jaffna to ‘keep the main gates open’. However, the gates remained closed when the UPFA protest arrived there.

After 15 minutes of ‘agitation’ orchestrated by the goons and paramilitary operatives outside the gates, the UN representatives opted to come out opening their gates to receive the SL ‘appeal’.

After this, the victims who were forced to take part in the demonstration were taken through Stanley Road to Veampadi Junction, where the SL governor was awaiting them.

Meanwhile, EPDP paramilitary, with less than 200 ‘participants’ staged its protest from Muniyappar Temple in the esplanade of the Jaffna Fort. Unemployed graduates were promised employment for participating in the protest organised by the EPDP.

Despite the ‘efforts’ of Chandrasiri, who was earlier the operational boss of the paramilitary groups in Jaffna during his military tenure, the EPDP refused to cooperate with him and the SLFP.

However, after prolonged ‘discussions’ at Veampadi Junction, Chandrasiri led both the factions to go parallel with ‘parity’ in the double road along the Jaffna Hospital, towards the bus station.

Similar protests were also ‘staged’ in Ki'linochchi and Mullaiththeevu districts of Vanni.

Civil officials of the Northern Provincial Council administration were interrupted from their work and were instructed to join the protest in Ki'linochchi. They were taken in vehicles to be present at the protest in Ki'linochchi town.

The officials of the secretariats in Vanni were also forced to write and prepare the placards.

SL Presidential sibling and economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa was also behind organizing the protests in the North.

EPDP accused of post-2006 killings as SLFP-EPDP feud escalates in Jaffna

EPDP accused of post-2006 killings as SLFP-EPDP feud escalates in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Sunday, 01 January 2012, 23:58 GMT]
Pandemonium prevailed and Police was called to manage the altercation during a Jaffna Municipal Council meeting Friday when Nishanthan, an ex-member of the Eelam People Democratic Party (EPDP), and currently functioning under ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) label, accused EPDP of carrying out abductions, extortions, and gruesome killings that occurred in Jaffna after the breakdown of the peace process in 2006 under Sri Lanka military occupation, sources in Jaffna said. Nishanthan was a key activist within EPDP when EPDP was functioning as an armed-paramilitary unit under the command of Sri Lanka military intelligence. The exposé of EPDP complicity in killings was a manifestation of brewing infighting between the members of the EPDP and SLFP within the Jaffna Municipal Council, political observers in Jaffna said.

Nishanthan said that he has irrefutable evidence that EPDP was responsible for the post-peace process abductions of Tamil youth, and arbitrary killings of women and youth in Jaffna.

Heated verbal exchanges at the Council meetings culminated in members exchanging blows, and Municipal Council President Yogeswary Satkunam summoned the police to restore order, according to attending council members. Close to 30 Police officers visited the council premises and conducted investigations.

Nishanthan and Mangalanesan were both former EPDP members who left the EPDP and is working with Jaffna SLFP organizer, Ankayan who is providing security to the two coucilors. The two disgruntled ex-EPDPers are routinely exposing EPDP's atrocities during the post-2006 period, political observers in Jaffna pointed out.

The expected attendance of current EPDP member Komagan to the Municipal council meeting did not materialize as announced by the EPDP. Komagan was elected under EPDP banner but was arrested by Sri Lanka CID and was kept at the notorious 4-th floor offices of the CID.

Note that in a wikileaks cable of May 2007 U.S. Ambassador admits knowledge of the crimes being committed by EPDP and other paramilitary groups under tacit or direct approval from high-level officials in Colombo.

"Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa has authorized EPDP and Karuna to collect the money from Tamil businessmen. This may account for the sharp rise in lawlessness, especially extortion and kidnapping, that many have documented in Vavuniya and Colombo. Even though EPDP and Karuna are each comprised nearly exclusively of ethnic Tamils, the crimes that they commit are almost always against other," the cable says, among other revelations. Tamils.
