‘Yaazh Theavi’ claims life of 78-year-old man in Ki'linochchi

A 78-year-old Tamil man, who survived the genocidal onslaught on Vanni, was killed Friday in Ki'linochchi where ‘Yaazh Theavi’ train, which was under a trial run, knocked him down at a crossing without an operational barrier. The accident comes two days ahead of SL president Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to declare the train service extended to Ki'linochchi from Vavuniyaa in a hasty election propaganda move on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Vairamuththu Thirunavukarasu from Tho'ndamaan-nakar in Ki'linochchi.

The fatal accident which claimed the life Mr Thirunavukkarasu on the spot has taken place at 155th Mile Post in Ki'linochchi around 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The trial run of the train has been conducted without operational barriers or signal lights, news sources in Ki'linochchi said.

30 temples, 25 churches remain damaged in Ki'linochchi

Even after four years have passed, More than 30 Saiva temples are found either destroyed or damaged in the three divisions of Ki'linochchi district, informed sources in Ki'linohchi told TamilNet on Saturday. In one division alone, 24 churches have been damaged during the war, according to civil sources in Ki'linochchi. In one of the division, Poonakari, two churches (St. Mary's Church and Our Lady of Refuge Church) were fully destroyed while 22 other churches have been partially damaged in Poonakri (Pooneryn). 

The occupying Sri Lankan military, which has deployed soldiers in the vicinity of Uruththirapureechvaram temple situated in Karaichchi DS division, has threatened the Saiva priest of the temple and are trying to install a Buddha statue there, civil officials said. 

The SL military has restricted civilians from accessing Kanakaampikai-temple and keeps the place as a ‘High Security Zone’. 

10 other Hindu temples remain damaged in Karaichchi DS division. These are: Porikadavai amman, Kanthassami temple, Ramanathapuram Krishna temple, Uruththirapuram Murukan temple, Vayaloor-murukan of Vaddakkachchi, Pi'l'laiyaar temple at Mu'rippu, Skanthapuram murukan, Vanneari aiyanaar, and Vanneari Murukan temple. 

Murukan temple at Kumarapuram, Potkadavai pi'l'laiyaar koayil at Kugnchu-Paranthan, Amman koayil at Paramankeerai and Amman koayil at Kauthaari-munai are found damaged in Poonakari division which has been heavily militarised. 

In Pazhai division, Maa'nikkap-pi'l'laiyaar koayil and Amman-koayil at Mukamaalai are fully destroyed while Ka'n'nakai Amman koayil at Iyakkachchi, Karanthai koayil and Thaamaraik-kea'ni temple in Pazhai DS division are found damaged.   

SL military operatives attack ITAK meeting in Ki'linochchi, 20 wounded

Four Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians, Mavai Senathirajah, S. Sritharan, E. Saravanapavan and MA Sumanthiran, who visited Ki'linochchi Saturday for a meeting at Sritharan MP's office, were besieged by a Sinhala mob, numbering more than 100, that attacked the meeting at 11:00 a.m. The alleged SL military intelligence operatives, carrying Lion flags, were shouting slogans against the TNA and were pelting stones on the public meeting. 20 people have sustained injuries. The public providing security to the TNA parliamentarians caught two of the Sinhala attackers. However, the SL police, who came to the site 75 minutes after the report of the attack, allowed the two alleged military personnel to walk free without detaining them for investigations. The brutal assault has been carried out in a similar fashion as the attack reported at Thellippazhai in Jaffna in June 2011.

Five of the injured people have been admitted at Ki'linochchi hospital.

The attacking group, stormed the site from all the four directions, started to pelt stones at the meeting and at the vehicles parked outside.

The SL Police came to the site only after 12:15 p.m.

TNA Spokesperson Suresh Premachandran MP, who convened a press conference at Jaffna Press Club, immediately after the initial reports, blamed SL military intelligence for the attack.

The meeting by TNA parliamentarians are continuing their meeting from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

SLFP threatens Tamils filing cases against Sinhala land grab in Ki'linochchi

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) men in Ki'linochchi have been threatening the Tamil land owners who have been filing cases against the Sinhalese from South who have occupied their lands. The SLFP men are behind ‘providing’ lands to the family members of the Sri Lanka Army soldiers and other Sinhalese from South. At least 15 cases are pending the Ki'linochchi courts against illegal land grab of priviate lands by the Sinhala settlers from South, legal sources in Ki'lnochchi told TamilNet.

A family of the occupying Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier has been illegally settled in the lands belonging to the Irrigation Department, at Karadip-poakku Junction in the suburb of Ki'linochchi town since December 2012.

While the Irrigation Department officials are struggling to get the occupying family to vacate the lands, the family has built a house and a restaurant at the occupied lands with the backing of the SLA and the SLFP.

Even the Health Department officials are unable to take any action against the occupants of the land.

In the meantime, another family from South has been settled inside a private land near Karadip-poakku junction. The land owner, a Tamil family man from Jaffna, complained with the SL Police that his land has been encroached.

However, the occupying family, backed by the SLFP gang, has filed a case claiming that the said land is their property.

In the meantime, the SLFP men in Ki'linochci are grabbing more lands of Eezham Tamils in Ki'linochchi district to settle Sinhala families from South, especially in Chivanakar, Uruththirapuram and along the spill canals of the Ira'naimadu Tank, news sources in Ki'linochchi further said.

The Sri Lankan “Terrorist” Investigation Department (TID) personnel, who receive instructions from SL Defence Secretary and presidential sibling Gotabhaya Rajapaksa “recovered” C4 explosives from the office of the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Sritharan in a move to trap the Tamil parliamentarian, on Saturday, sources close to the TNA MP told TamilNet. The SL-TID operatives who came to the office with a TNA supporter who had campaigned for Sritharan during the election, planted the explosives inside the office and “discovered” them, the sources close to the Tamil parliamentarian alleged. The latest move by the TID, deployed in systematic campaign against the democratic voices of Eezham Tamils, only indicates the level of paranoia prevailing in the Colombo Establishment at the moment, the sources further said.

On Friday, the SL-TID investigators arrested Mr Vasanthan, a TNA supporter who had campaigned for the election of Sritharan.

The SL-TID operatives stormed the office of the MP Saturday evening alleging that they had arrested Mr Vasanthan and that they wanted to search the office to locate the explosives.

At the time of writing of this news, the SL-TID operatives are “interrogating” 38-year-old Velamaalikithan, who was at the office of the TNA MP. The interrogation is taking place at the spot itself.

As a tactic to suppress the democratic protests by the students of the University of Jaffna in November, the SL-TID had come up with an alleged accusation of “bomb attack” on Sri-TELO office in order to bring the students under “Terrorist” investigations.
