TNA activist killed in Mullaiththeevu

A 35-year-old Tamil National Alliance (TNA) activist, Mr Rasiah Kavithan, also known as Suresh, was killed by a criminal squad associated with the ruling UPFA of the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Mullaiththeevu on Monday around 6:00 p.m., initial reports from Vanni said. The killing has taken place while the sons of the SL President, Namal Rajapaksa MP and Yoshitha Rajapaksa (SL Navy), have been spearheading the election campaign in Mullaiththeevu district for the ruling UPFA. A UPFA supporter and an operative of the SL military intelligence, Mr Raja Karuna, is contesting the elections in Ma'nal-aa'ru. The election campaign undertaken by Rasiah Kavithan on behalf of the TNA was challenging the UPFA in Mullaiththeevu.

Two persons of a criminal squad associated with Raja Karuna have been detained by the SL police, but political influence is being exerted on the SL police to free the culprits from the custody, the reports further said.

The two persons, alleged of killing Mr Kavithan, have been running illegal sand scooping and timber cutting in Mullaiththeevu with the backing of SL military.

Tension prevails in Mullaiththeevu following the killing.

The SL police has handed over the dead body to the mortuary of the Puthuk-kudiyiruppu hospital.

In the meantime, the occupying SL military has stepped up harassments on young activists engaged in election campaign for TNA throughout the Northern province.

Around 50 TNA supporters were detained by the SL police in Vavuniyaa on Monday with the intention of disrupting the election campaign of the TNA, news sources in Vavuniyaa said.

Already, four persons were detained by the SL police in Thenmaraadchi in Jaffna last week on false allegations. They were produced in the courts on Monday and released on bail.

A 78-year-old Tamil man, who survived the genocidal onslaught on Vanni, was killed Friday in Ki'linochchi where ‘Yaazh Theavi’ train, which was under a trial run, knocked him down at a crossing without an operational barrier. The accident comes two days ahead of SL president Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to declare the train service extended to Ki'linochchi from Vavuniyaa in a hasty election propaganda move on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Vairamuththu Thirunavukarasu from Tho'ndamaan-nakar in Ki'linochchi.

The fatal accident which claimed the life Mr Thirunavukkarasu on the spot has taken place at 155th Mile Post in Ki'linochchi around 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The trial run of the train has been conducted without operational barriers or signal lights, news sources in Ki'linochchi said.

Two rebel leaders reported killed in Chechnya

Russian security forces claim to have killed two key Chechen rebel leaders, along with nine other rebels, BBC reported on Friday. The two commanders, brothers Khusein and Muslim Gakayev, were considered the regions “most wanted men”, were reportedly killed during a clash with the security forces. The killings follow a “counter-terrorist operation” that has been on in the South of Chechnya since Wednesday, UPI cited Moscow backed Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, who is largely considered by Chechen nationalists as a quisling.

The death of the Chechen rebel leaders is considered a significant military victory by Russian counterinsurgency forces.

The First Chechen War that lasted from December 1994 to August 1996, that involved the loss of anywhere between 50000 to 100000 Chechen lives, resulted in the creation of a de facto independent Chechnya.

The Second Chechen War, that was started by Russia in 1999 under the pretext of responding to the invasion of Dagestan by Islamists, resulted in the restoration of Russian federal control over Chechnya, involving the deaths of about 30000-50000 Chechen civilians. Russia declared the counterinsurgency operations to have ended in 2009.

After the killing of several Chechen nationalist political leaders, Russia appointed its paramilitary strongman Ramzan Kadyrov as a President of Chechnya, giving the province little autonomy.

However, low intensity insurgency has been ongoing in Chechnya ever since 2009.

Likewise, the Russia backed Chechen leader Kadyrov has been accused of severe misuse of power, extrajudicial killings, torture and abductions.

Sri Lankan diplomat Dayan Jayatilleka has in the recent past called on Sri Lanka to apply Russia’s Kadyrov model to the occupied homeland of the Eezham Tamils.

16 killed, 45 wounded, prisoners clash with SL commandos in Welikada

16 inmates were killed and more than 45 have sustained injuries in a clash between Sri Lankan Special Task Force elite commandos and Sinhala hardcore prisoners, initial reports from Colombo said. A group of STF elite commandos, who entered the Welikada prison in Colombo, on a search operation has provoked anger among the Sinhala inmates after engaging in verbal abuse against the prisoners. The rioting prisoners seized an arms storage at the prison and started firing against the STF personnel, wounding 13 of them. One of those wounded was a Deputy Inspector General, news sources in Colombo said.

The section affected by the riot in the prison was the quarters of hardcore criminal inmates and remand prisoners, most of whom are Sinhalese.

As the prisoners began to stone the STF commandos and seized the weapons from the prison, additional troops were rushed to control the riot that has erupted inside the prison.

In an earlier history, the Welikada prison, called the “maximum security Central Jail” in the island, had turned out to be notorious when over 50 Tamil prisoners had been massacred by the Sinhalese guards and prisoners during the anti-Tamil pogrom in July 1983.

Tamil prisoners were not affected by the riots on Friday, according to initial reports.

More than 200 Tamil political prisoners, arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), are kept at this Welikada prison. They are kept in detention without any charges filed against them for a prolonged period of time.

The Tamil inmates have been protesting for several years demanding action to release or to initiate legal proceedings against them.

இலண்டன், ஆக.9: குழந்தை தன்னைப் பார்த்து சிரிக்கவில்லை என்ற ஒரே காரணத்துக்காக அதன் மீது வெறுப்பு கொண்ட தந்தை ஒருவர், அதனை சுவரில் அடித்துக் கொன்றார். நியூஸிலாந்தில் இந்தச் சம்பவம் நடந்துள்ளது.நியூஸிலாந்து நீதிமன்றத்தில் நடந்த வழக்கு ஒன்றில் இந்த விவரம் வெளியே தெரியவந்துள்ளது. கேஃபு இகாமனு என்பவர், தனது பெண் குழந்தை செய்னியின் கழுத்தை நெரித்தும், தோள், இடுப்பு எலும்புகளை உடைத்தும், மூளையில் அடிபடக் காரணமாக அமைந்தும், அதன் இறப்புக்குக் காரணமாகவும் இருந்தார் என்று நீதிமன்றத்தில் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டு, விசாரணை நடந்தது. அப்போது, தன்னைப் பார்த்துச் சிரிக்கவில்லை என்ற ஒரே காரணத்துக்காக அந்தக் குழந்தையை சுவரில் தூக்கி வீசி, எலும்பும் மூளையும் பாதிக்கப்படும் அளவுக்கு இவர் நடந்துகொண்டுள்ளார் என்று நீதிமன்றத்தில் வக்கீல் குற்றம்சாட்டினார். இதனை டெய்லி மெயில் பத்திரிகை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.கடந்த 2010 மார்ச் மாதம் தனது மூன்றாவது பிறந்தநாள் தொடக்கத்துக்கு 21 நாட்களுக்கு முன்னர் இந்தப் பெண் குழந்தை நிமோனியா தாக்கி இறந்தது. இதற்கு மூளையில் பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டதே காரணம் என்பது தெரியவந்தது. அதன் பின்னர் நடத்தப்பட்ட விசாரணையில், தன் குழந்தை தன்னிடம் ஒட்டுதல் இன்றி இருந்ததாலும், பாசம் காட்டவில்லை, சிரிக்கவில்லை என்ற காரணத்தாலும் கோபமும் வெறுப்பும் அடைந்த தந்தை இவ்வாறு நடந்துகொண்டது தெரியவந்தது. இத்தனைக்கும் வெகுநாட்கள் அது தன் பாட்டி வீட்டில் இருந்ததாம். அது கொல்லப்படுவதற்கு சில நாட்கள் முன்னர்தான் தன் தந்தை வீட்டுக்கு வந்ததாம்.

Renowned journalist Marie Colvin of The Sunday Times (UK), who is familiar to Eezham Tamils for her coverage on the conflict in the island, has been killed in shelling in Syria together with French photographer Remi Olchlik on Wedensday, agency reports said. The courageous journalist lost one of her eyes in 2001 in Sri Lanka Army shelling while working in the island. She was the only journalist to be present in besieged town of Homs in Syria, covering the conflict there, where she was slain. The shocking news of her death comes a few hours after her coverage on “sickening scenes” from Syria.

Marie Colvin was the last journalist the LTTE's Political Head B. Nadesan and the Director of LTTE Peace Secretariat S. Puleedevan were talking to in May 2009 before they were massacred in one of the worst war crimes of modern times.

Jon Snow of Channel 4 came with the following reaction: “Assad's assassination of Marie Colvin: Utterly devastating: the most courageous journalist I ever knew and a wonderful reporter and writer”.

UK's Mirror said of her death" "Witnesses say the American-born journalist was fired on by a rocket as she and Mr Ochlik fled a makeshift media centre that had been shelled in a heavy artillery barrage by Syrian forces.

"As the centre - which is situated next to a hospital - began to collapse journalists and guides fled the scene in the Baba Amr district and were fired upon again by Syrian soldiers.

"Colvin, who was in her fifties, appeared on Channel 4 and ITN’s News at Ten on Tuesday evening reporting on the bombardment of the opposition stronghold," the Mirror added.

Colvin also won the British press award for Best Foreign Correspondent on two occasions, as well as awards from the International Women's Media Foundation, according to UK's Telegraph.

UK Sunday Times's editor, John Witherow, issued a statement in which he spoke of Colvin as "an extraordinary figure in the life of the Sunday Times" who was "driven by a passion to cover wars in the belief that what she did mattered.

"She believed profoundly that reporting could curtail the excesses of brutal regimes and make the international community take notice... "Throughout her long career she took risks to fulfil this goal, including being badly injured in Sri Lanka. Nothing seemed to deter her. "But she was much more than a war reporter. She was a woman with a tremendous joie de vivre, full of humour and mischief and surrounded by a large circle of friends, all of whom feared the consequences of her bravery."

Rupert Murdoch also paid tribute to Colvin, describing her as "one of the most outstanding foreign correspondents of her generation."

In a classified memo written by US's Sri Lanka Ambassador Robert Blake in October 2006 to Washington, ten months after the extra-judicial execution of five students at a Trincomalee beach, Basil Rajapakse, advisor to Sri Lanka's President and brother Rajapakse, had told Ambassador Blake that Special Task Force (STF) was responsible for the killings, according a Wikileaks document. The father of Ragihar, one of the students killed, is one of the three plaintiffs who have filed a civil case against Sri Lanka's President Rajapakse for Command Responsibility in the killings.

The relevant text contained in the memo follows:

¶6. (C) Speaking with surprising candor, Rajapaksa explained the GSL's efforts to prove that members of the Security Task Force (STF) murdered five students in Trincomalee in January: "We know the STF did it, but the bullet and gun evidence shows that they did not. They must have separate guns when they want to kill some one. We need forensic experts. We know who did it, but we can't proceed in prosecuting them."

Ambassador Blake tells Washington that Rajapakse's "candid response...laid the foundation for a pragmatic relationship with the [US] embassy."

Dr Manoharan says in his affidavit submitted to the District Court of District of Columbia as part of the complaint to the case against Rajapakse, that he "personally believe[s] that these murders were carried out by the STF [Special Task Force] under the supervision of Superintendent of Police [SP] Kapila Jayasekara."

The STF team was sent to Trincomalee with the approval of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse just before Christmas 2005, and Sinhala extremist Kotagadeniya was acting as an advisor to the Defence Ministry in Police matters. "Judging by events there is hardly any doubt that the attack on the students in a public place was conceived as teaching the Tamils a lesson...If not the details, the general form of the atrocity was planned at the highest level," the Rights organization UTHR concluded in its investigations. (UTHR, 1/2/10, pg. 14).

Article 28 of the Rome Statute which addresses "Command Responsibility," states in part:

(b) ...a superior shall be criminally responsible for crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court committed by subordinates under his or her effective authority and control, as a result of his or her failure to exercise control properly over such subordinates, where:
1. The superior either knew, or consciously disregarded information which clearly indicated, that the subordinates were committing or about to commit such crimes;
2. The crimes concerned activities that were within the effective responsibility and control of the superior; and
3. The superior failed to take all necessary and reasonable measures within his or her power to prevent or repress their commission or to submit the matter to the competent authorities for investigation and prosecution.

Even if the superiors, in this case, raise defense against intent or knowledge of the killings, not submitting the matter to the competing authorities for investigation and prosecution is a clear violation of Article 28(b)(iii), and Article 87 of the Additional Protocol I of Geneva Conventions, legal sources in Washington said.

In a deadly strike that was carried out in Uludere of Sirnak province in Turkey’s Southeast region on Wednesday, Turkish F16’s killed at least 36 Kurdish civilians. While the ruling party AKP’s spokesperson called the attack an ‘operational mistake’ and the government has claimed that there will be investigations in to the matter, the PKK said in a statement that the strike was “the result of the all-out war concept developed by the AKP (Justice and Development Party) government against our leader, movement and people. This is the continuation of the system of arrest and torture that aims at intimidating our people”. Even as the PKK called for an uprising, there have been huge protests by the Kurdish people in Turkey’s capital and other places.

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Bulent Arinc said in a televised interview that “Turkey is combating terrorism and in that fight incidents like this may occur. If there’s neglect, a mistake or intent in this event, then the people responsible will be revealed and they will bear the consequences.”

Turkey was one of the states to immediately congratulate Sri Lanka after the Mu’l’livaaikkaal genocide and has provided political and material assistance to Sri Lanka. Also, many military analysts in the Turkish official circles considered the ‘Sri Lanka style’ solution as an effective model for dealing with the Kurdish national question.

Likewise, many Kurdish activists and journalists have also likened their condition to that of the Eezham Tamils.

The International Community’s silence while Sri Lanka successfully executed its genocidal war manoeuvres in Mu’l’livaaikkaal with deliberate targeting of civilians, and its complicity in the structural genocide of the Eezham Tamils in their homelands by the occupying Lankan colonizers by its failure to address the national question provides an inspiration for states like Turkey to use such methods against similar struggles, commented a Tamil academic.

A Sri Lanka Army soldier, manning a check post on Poonakari Road, shot and killed a traveller on motorbike Thursday around 7:00 a.m. after demanding the traveller to hand over his motorbike, sources in Poonakari told TamilNet. The SLA soldier was reportedly killed in friendly-fire when he later confronted fellow soldiers, the sources further said. Tension prevailed in the area and the road remained closed for hours. Although the dead body of the SLA soldier was sent to Jaffna hospital and transferred to Palaali military hospital, the information or identity of the slain traveller is yet to be made public. SL military officials are yet to reveal details of the episode and journalists were blocked from reaching the site.

The SLA soldier at the bridge had demanded the motorbike from the young man who was on his way to Jaffna from Vanni.

When the man politely declined to hand over his motorbike saying that he was on an urgent trip to Jaffna, the soldier shot him, reportedly killing him on the spot.

After killing the traveller, the SLA soldier started to fire at his fellow soldiers, who attempted to control him.

When the situation got out of control, the SLA soldier was seriously wounded in the gunfire from fellow soldiers and later succumbed to his injuries.

The slain traveller was an innocent victim, according to the construction workers, who witnessed the episode.

Muslim woman knifed to death in Batticaloa

The body of a 69-year old Muslim woman, Vellaikutty Vellai Umma, was recovered with cut injuries on her neck on December 26 in her house located along S.L. Hajiar Road in Ward 5 of Vaalaichcheanai in Vaalaichcheanai police division in Batticaloa district, police sources said. The woman went to her daughters’ house at Buhari Road in Oaddamaavadi, and was later found dead with cut injuries with pointed weapon.

Vellai Umma's son, a Samurdhi officer was taken into custody by the Vaalaichchenai police when his statement to police was found to be contradictory and unsatisfactory.

Her body was first handed over to Vaalaichcheanai Base Hospital and then to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for further examination.

Oaddamaavadi is located 32 km off Batticaloa town.

Abducted JVP organiser in Jaffna feared killed

Lalith Veeraraj, the Jaffna district organiser of the Movement for People’s Struggle, a JVP dissident group and his friend Kugan Murugananthan, who were reported missing in Achchuveali on Friday are feared killed, according to the MPS faction of the JVP which staged a press conference in Jaffna on Saturday. Lalith Veeraraj has been involved in bringing out the news regarding the missing persons, political prisoners and abductions in Jaffna, Ki'linochchi, Mullaiththeevu, Mannaar and Vavuniyaa during the past months and had been warned several times by the SL intelligence operatives not to get involved in the missing persons issue.

Mr. Veeraraj and Mr. Muruganathan, left the house from Aavarangkaal Sivan temple area around 5:00 p.m. in a motorbike with registration number NPGT-7852.

Now, his party officials say they were receiving phone calls from within the SLA establishment saying that Veeraraj has been assassinated, according to Chamira Koswatte, the convenor of the Movement for People’s Struggle.

Mr. Veeraraj was working on staging a press conference for the JVP dissidents group. But, the press conference itself on Saturday turned out to be a meeting on his disappearance.

Regardless of his party affiliation with the JVP or now the dissident group, both of which fail in recognising the Tamil national question, Mr. Veeraraj and his friends were voicing for the rights of the missing persons and was maintaining good contacts with Tamil parliamentarians on the missing persons issue.

Some time back, when he went to discuss with Mrs. Pathmini Sithamparanathan, he was attacked by a gang believed to be an squad operated by the SL military intelligence.

Mr. Veeraraj is born to a Tamil father and a Sinhala mother.

இறந்த மீனவரின் சடலத்துடன் வேதாரண்யம் வட்டாட்சியர் அலுவலகம் முன் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை நடைபெற்ற ஆர்ப்பாட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்றவர்கள். (உள்படம்) இறந்த மீனவர் நா.

வேதாரண்யம், ஜன. 23: நாகை மாவட்டம், கோடியக்கரை அருகே கடலில் மீன்பிடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த தமிழக மீனவர்கள் மீது இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் மீண்டும் தாக்குதல் நடத்தினர். அப்போது இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் வேதாரண்யம் பகுதி மீனவர் ஒருவரின் கழுத்தில் கயிற்றால் சுருக்கிட்டு இழுத்ததில் சனிக்கிழமை இரவு அவர் உயிரிழந்தார். வேதாரண்யத்தை அடுத்த புஷ்பவனம், மீனவர் காலனி பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் நாகப்பன் மகன்கள் ஜெயக்குமார் (28), செந்தில் (25), ஆரியசாமி மகன் ராஜேந்திரன் (45). மீனவர்களான இவர்கள் மூவரும் கண்ணாடியிழைப் படகில் புஷ்பவனத்திலிருந்து சனிக்கிழமை காலை 10 மணிக்கு கடலுக்குச் சென்றனர். இவர்கள் அன்று மாலை 6 மணியளவில் கோடியக்கரைக்கு தென்கிழக்கே 11 நாட்டிக்கல் மைல் தொலைவில் மீன்பிடிக்க வலை விரித்தனர். இரவு 11 மணியளவில் அந்தப் பகுதிக்கு கருநீலத்தில் உடையணிந்த 10-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் வந்தனர். அவர்களைப் பார்த்த மீனவர்கள், தாங்கள் மீனவர்கள்தான் என்பதை அடையாளப்படுத்தும் வகையில் சைகை (சிக்னல்) செய்தனராம்.இதைப் பொருள்படுத்தாமல் அவர்களைத் திட்டிய இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர், கடலில் குதிக்கும்படி மீனவர்களை எச்சரித்தனராம். இதையடுத்து, மீனவர்கள் செந்தில், ராஜேந்திரன் ஆகியோர் படகிலிருந்து கடலில் குதித்தனர். ஜெயக்குமார் மட்டும் கடலில் குதிக்க தாமதித்ததாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. அந்த நேரத்தில் மீனவர்களின் படகுக்குள் குதித்த இலங்கைக் கடற்படை வீரர் ஒருவர், ஜெயக்குமாரின் கன்னத்தில் அறைந்ததுடன், படகில் இருந்த நைலான் கயிற்றால் சுருக்கு வைத்து அவரது கழுத்தில் மாட்டினாராம். மேலும், கயிற்றின் ஒரு முனையை இலங்கைப் படையினர் இருந்த படகில் வீசிவிட்டு, அவரும் அந்தப் படகுக்குச் சென்றுவிட்டார். பின்னர், படகில் இருந்தவாறு கயிற்றின் முனையைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்ட இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் மீனவர்களின் படகைச் சுற்றி வந்தனராம். அப்போது ஜெயக்குமார் கடலுக்குள் விழுந்தார். இதையடுத்து, கயிற்றை வீசிவிட்டு இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் அங்கிருந்து சென்றுவிட்டனர்.கடலில் குதித்த மற்ற இரு மீனவர்களும் படகுக்கு வந்து, கயிற்றை இழுத்து பார்த்தபோது ஜெயக்குமார் உயிரிழந்தது தெரியவந்தது. இதனால், மீன்பிடி வலைகளைத் துண்டித்துவிட்டு, ஜெயக்குமாரின் சடலத்துடன் மீனவர்கள் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை காலை 5 மணிக்கு கரைக்குத் திரும்பினர்.ஜெயக்குமாரின் கழுத்துப் பகுதியில் கயிறு இறுக்கியதால் ஏற்பட்ட வீக்கம், சிராய்ப்பு காணப்பட்டது.பின்னர், அவரது சடலம் மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைக்காக வேதாரண்யம் அரசு மருத்துவமனைக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டது. மீனவர்கள் செந்தில், ராஜேந்திரன் இருவரும் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டனர்.உயிரிழந்த ஜெயக்குமாருக்கு மனைவி முருகேஸ்வரி (24), குழந்தைகள் ஜனனி (6 மாதம்), பூமிகா (18 மாதம்) ஆகியோர் உள்ளனர்.இந்தச் சம்பவத்தால் மீனவக் கிராமங்களில் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பதற்றம் ஏற்பட்டது.மீனவரின் குடும்பத்துக்கு ரூ.5 லட்சம்; மனைவிக்கு அரசு வேலை: உயிரிழந்த மீனவரின் குடும்பத்துக்கு முதல்வரின் பொது நிவாரண நிதியிலிருந்து ரூ.5 லட்சம் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்தக் காசோலையை ஜெயக்குமாரின் மனைவி முருகேஸ்வரியிடம் மாவட்ட வருவாய் அலுவலர் வை.ராஜேந்திரன் வழங்கினார். ஜெயக்குமாரின் மனைவி முருகேஸ்வரிக்கு அவரது கல்வித் தகுதிக்குரிய அரசு வேலை 15 நாள்களில் அளிக்கப்படும் என்று நாகை மக்களவை உறுப்பினர் ஏ.கே.எஸ்.விஜயன் கூறினார்.இந்தியா கண்டனம்புது தில்லி, ஜன. 23: நாகை மாவட்டம் புஷ்பவனத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மீனவர் இலங்கை கடற்படையால் சனிக்கிழமை கழுத்து நெரித்து கொல்லப்பட்டதற்கு இந்தியா கடும் கண்டனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.இந்திய மீனவர்கள், தொடர்ந்து இதுபோல் கொல்லப்படுவது ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியாதது என்று மத்திய வெளியுறவு அமைச்சகம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.இந்த விவகாரத்தை மத்திய வெளியுறவு அமைச்சர் எஸ்.எம். கிருஷ்ணா மிகவும் கடுமையாக எடுத்துக் கொண்டுள்ளதாகவும் இலங்கையில் உள்ள இந்திய தூதரகத்திடம் இது குறித்து அவர் அறிக்கை கேட்டிருப்பதாகவுபம் அமைச்சகம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. கொல்லப்பட்ட மீனவரைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களையும் இந்த சம்பவம் குறித்தும் மத்திய அரசுக்கு விவரங்கள் தெரிவிக்குமாறு தமிழக அரசையும் வெளியுறவு அமைச்சகம் கேட்டுக் கொண்டுள்ளது.இதனிடையே வேதாரண்யம் மீனவரை இலங்கை கடற்படையினர் கொன்றதாக வெளியான தகவல்களை இலங்கை மறுத்துள்ளது.

மணமேல்குடி, ஜன. 12: புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டம், ஜகதாப்பட்டினத்திலிருந்து கடலுக்குள் மீன் பிடிக்கச் சென்ற மீனவர்கள் மீது இலங்கைக் கடற்படையினர் புதன்கிழமை துப்பாக்கியால் சுட்டதில் மீனவர் ஒருவர் கொல்லப்பட்டார்.  நாகை மாவட்டம், தரங்கம்பாடி அருகேயுள்ள சின்னக்குடியைச் சேர்ந்த ராஜேந்திரனின் மகன் பாண்டியன் (19). இவரும், புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டம், ஜகதாப்பட்டினத்தைச் சேர்ந்த முனியசாமியின் மகன்கள் மணிகண்டன், மணிவண்ணன் ஆகியோரும் மீன் பிடிப்பதற்காக புதன்கிழமை காலை ஜகதாப்பட்டினத்திலிருந்து கடலுக்குள் விசைப் படகில் சென்றனர்.  இந்திய கடல் எல்லைக்குள் 14 "நாட்டிக்கல்' மைல் தொலைவில் விசைப் படகில் மீன் பிடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அப்போது, அந்தப் பகுதிக்கு வந்த இலங்கை கடற்படையினர் துப்பாக்கியால் சரமாரியாகச் சுட்டனர். இதில் பலத்த குண்டுக் காயமடைந்த பாண்டியன் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே உயிரிழந்தார்.  இதனால், ஜகதாப்பட்டினம் கடற்கரையில் பரபரப்பு நிலவுகிறது.
