Uthayan faked, SL forces focus on targeting Ananthi on election day

While the Indian media, The Hindu and The Times of India, highlight NPC chief minister candidate Mr CV Wigneswaran condemning the call for Tamil Eelam and the call for boycotting the CHOGM meet, the focus of genocidal Colombo seems to be on targeting Ms Ananthi Sasitharan, the Tamil homeland-based candidate, who has become popular among the people. On the morning of Saturday, which is election day, the popular daily in the North, Uthayan, was faked and in its name, a newspaper was circulated saying that Ms Ananthi has joined the Colombo government. The fake paper cited Mavai Senathirajah. Meanwhile, news reports from several parts of the North said that the occupying SL forces are intimidating and preventing Tamils from voting. In Mullaiththeevu, a voting booth captured by Sinhalese prevented local Tamils from voting. Despite the odds, people are seen actively engaged in voting.

A group Sri Lankan soldiers, who stopped a vehicle, which was taking disabled voters to election booth, opened fire and threatened the organisers, an independent election monitoring group that had organised the transport, news sources in Chaavakachcheari said.

The occupying SL military was chasing away the uprooted people from voting at Maathakal in Jaffna. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) politicians who went to the voting booth were also harassed by the SL military, reports from Maathakal said.

Also at Thampaaddi in Ooraaththu’rai (Kayts), the people were chased away by the SL military, which was accompanied by paramilitary operatives, initial reports from the islets said.

In Mullaiththeevu, common voting booths were set up for uprooted people from Kokkuththoduvaay and Karunaadduk-kea’ni. Sinhalese settlers in Tamil areas were using the booth in large numbers and the Tamils who went to vote were harassed, the reports from Mullaiththeevu said adding that there were widespread election violations being committed by the occupying SL military in the district.

Meanwhile, the SL military intelligence in Jaffna has launched a systematic campaign to discredit Ms Ananthi Sasitharan, whose residence was attacked by the SL military in the early hours of Friday.

On the election day, the SL military intelligence circulated a fake newspaper in Uthyan layout, which mischievously said Ananthi Sasitharan had joined the Sri Lankan government.

The SL military intelligence has also been spreading the same story earlier through leaflets. But, it has now gone to the extent of faking a mainstream newspaper in Tamil.

At the same time, Dan TV, operated by paramilitary and personalities aligned with the Sri Lankan State, also focused on the same story in their broadcast.

The spurious newspaper in Uthayan layout, faking the Ananthi story in the name of Mavai Senathirajah has also said that Mr Mavai has announced election boycott by the ITAK, the main party in the TNA alliance.

The SL military has also printed thousands of sample ballot papers with UPFA symbol and dispersed them in large numbers in the streets of Jaffna in the psy-ops war waged on the gagged people.

Despite all the odds, the people who seem to have sensed the propaganda, were actively voting as being seen in the following photos taken at a voting booth in Puththoor in Valikaamam East.

The participation is expected to be higher than in the previous elections after 2009, political observers in Jaffna said.

TNA circles were confident that they would gain two thirds majority in the NPC even if 52% of voters are able to part in the voting today.

However, Mumbai-based The Times of India, has stated on Friday that “Rajapaksa party likely to make some inroads in the north Sri Lanka”.

“Despite the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime in Sri Lanka being seen as responsible for war crimes and mass displacement of Tamils in the north, the ruling party's prospects of winning some seats are bright. There are many who think that Jaffna and surrounding areas risk being neglected again by the government if Rajapaksa's party, the UPFA, is kept out of the provincial council,” the paper said.

In recent times, The Times of India and its group of publications of corporate interests are actively engaged in propping up the Colombo-centric State and regime, political observers in Jaffna said.

Sri Lankan military intelligence and SL policemen brutally attacked and chased out a group of 30 families and relatives of missing persons, who had gathered near Paranthan junction in Ki’linochchi district on Tuesday to express their message to the visiting UN Human Rights Commissioner Ms Navanetham Pillay. The families had come as they were told that Navi Pillay would be traveling through A9 on a visit to Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal from Jaffna. Commenting on the nature of the public response to Ms Pillai’s visit to the North, observers said that had Ban Ki Moon come, people wouldn’t have cared or even if they had gathered they wouldn’t have shed tears but would have responded differently.

When the UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon thought of ‘visiting’ the Tamils in the barbed wire camps after the war, they didn’t even want to stand up.

Commenting on the outcome of public response to Navi Pillai, the observers said that every renewed faith shown by people towards global organisations meant for humanity are thwarted by the Establishments of vicious agenda that have hijacked those organisations. The course of the case of Eezham Tamils is one such that has to be carefully perused by human civilisation in planning for future on what to do with the culprits of humanity, the Tamil observers further said.

In the meantime, a Colombo newspaper, The Island, on Wednesday, blatantly bared the genocide-shielding anxiety in the South, by reporting that the people who had gathered in Jaffna on Tuesday morning were “victims of LTTE violence” and the SL police only barricaded them off.

In Vanni, on Tuesday afternoon, the SL policemen and military intelligence officers attacked the gathering using batons.

Following the assault, the protesting families had to abandon their effort to express their feelings to the visiting UN Human Rights Commissioner.

Ms Navi Pillay, who took part in some events in Ki’linochchi visited Ve’l’laa-mu’l’livaaykkaal and left for Trincomalee, news sources in Vanni said.

Preparing for her visit, the occupying Sinhala military in a few days back removed all the remaining vestiges of war at Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal, such as abandoned vehicles etc., and dumped them elsewhere.

When people of Mullaiththeevu for the first time in last three years gathered in hundreds in front of the district secretariat on Friday, to demand resettlement in their village at Keappaa-pulavu in the district, the occupying Sinhala military deployed in large numbers responded with intimidation of taking videos of the demonstrators and by arranging a gang to throw human excretion at them. After throwing dirt the gang escaped by getting into a nearby SL police station. Later, a motorbike gang followed the vehicle in which Mr S. Kajendran was returning from the demonstration to attack it near Mu’l’liyava’lai. Another gang, in the very presence of SL military, attacked the vehicle in which Dr. Wikramabahu Karunaratne and Mr Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam were returning via Paranthan road. A vehicle of media persons was also attacked.

Barbed wires placed to puncture tyres ambushed Mr. Kajendran’s vehicle at an open and lonely stretch of the road, when the motorbike gang that was following the vehicle started attacking the vehicle and the passengers inside. Mr. Kajendran drove the vehicle away in punctured condition to escape from the attackers.

The demonstration was led by TNA parliamentarian for Vanni, Mr Sritharan, TNPF leaders Mr. Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam and Mr S. Kajendran, leading civil society activist Mr. Guruparan Kumaravadivel as well as Dr. Wikramabahu Karunaratne, Mr. Mano Ganeshan and leaders of the United Socialist Party from the South.

The demonstration participated by more than around 400 local people, including the villagers of Keappaa-pulavu, took place for nearly one and a half hours between 11-30 AM and 1-00 PM.

SL military is currently stationed in the village Keappaa-pulavu and recently there was news that the occupying military plans a permanent base there.

“We want our land, let the military quit our homeland,” the demonstrators demanded.

An SL military officer of the rank of Major was engaged in an intimidating way in videographing the demonstrators.

The SL military has also organized a group of around 20 people to come to the venue and shout that demonstrations are not necessary for Tamils.

Later, speaking to media, Mr. Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam expressed his concern over how the OHCHR team that visited the island for a week is going to present its report. Everything moves towards a planned hoodwink, he implied.

All leaders who participated the demonstration opined that the affected people are left with no option other than struggle and demonstration in addressing the world and in letting the world know of their plight.

SL forces fatally attack protesting Tamil Prisoners of War in Vavuniyaa

The forces of genocidal Sinhala State in Sri Lanka fatally attacked Eezham Tamil prisoners of war kept in the prison at Vavuniyaa on Friday. Heads and limbs broken, more than 15 of the prisoners are admitted in Anuradhapura hospital after removing them from Vavuniyaa. The condition of some of them are said to be serious. The prisoners were protesting for the last few days over the torture and disappearance of a prison mate Mr. Saravanabhavan who was taken to Anuradhapura by the SL forces. Finding their peaceful fasting campaign responded with oppression, the enraged prisoners captured three of the prison officials and were demanding the return of Saravanabhavan for their release. In a well-planned operation on Friday, SL forces that entered into the prison, first deployed tear gas shells, plastic bullets and water canon, before brutally attacking the prisoners causing fatal injuries.

Most of the involved prisoners are actually prisoners of war as they were kept there for their alleged former membership with the LTTE.

Mr. Saravanabhavan who was taken away from the rest to Anuradhapura a few days ago, was once brought back after severe torture to tell the story to the other inmates. He was again taken away and was missing.

When the prisoners entered into a fasting campaign they were forced to take food. The three Sinhala prison officials who were captured had gone inside the cells to force-feed the prisoners.

The prison officials were not harmed, but the prisoners were demanding the return of the missing prisoner.

A SL judge is said to have entered into negotiation for the release of the prison officials but the prisoners were firm on knowing what had happened to Mr. Saravanabhavan. The prisoners wanted evidence if he was alive.

After a 24-hour stalemate, elite soldiers of the SL military and the commandos of the notorious Special Task Force that entered into the prison brutally attacked the prisoners.

Attempting to cover up the incident from media and public, the prison officials did not admit the wounded in Vavuniyaa hospital, but took them to the hospital at Anuradhapura. Apart from those who were seriously wounded, the other prisoners too have been transferred to Anuradhapura prison, sources in Vavuniyaa say.

The international-involved war in the island, in which 40 odd countries including the US and India have had roles and in which the failure of the UN has now gone on record, ended up in genocide with none of them taking any responsibility for the prisoners of war. But during the war all of them wanted the LTTE to ‘surrender’.

Organised attack on Tamil political prisoners and sometimes even mass killings of them inside genocidal Sri Lanka's prisons, have gone on record ever since 1983.

Meanwhile, this week, alleged LTTE prisoners are on a hunger strike in India demanding treatment of them as refugees. The condition of some of them is said to be critical.

While the US, India and the UN set a dangerous model in the treatment of the prisoners of war of a national struggle, the UK government has gone on record for leaving the ‘rehabilitation’ of Tamil prisoners of war in the hands of genocidal Sinhala military and even funding the programme.

The free Eezham Tamil diaspora so far has not taken any effort to argue the case of their freedom fighters in any international forum, addressing the internationally responsible ones in appropriate ways, concerned activists in the diaspora said.
