A 39-year-old father of a child, who returned to Ampaa'rai after being employed in Dubai, has been detained at Katunayaka International Airport on Saturday, news sources in Ampaa'rai said. The detained person, who hails from 12 Division in Kaarai-theevu, had left the LTTE in 2004 and undergone investigations earlier. But, he has been continuously harassed by the military intelligence of the occupying Sri Lanka Army while he was in Ampaa'rai, news sources in Ampaa'rai told TamilNet. More than 16 Tamils from East have been ‘arrested’ at Colombo airport within the last five months after the new regime has come to power in Colombo.

The detained person and his family members have been dependent on his employment in the Middle Eastern countries since 2004. Last time he had left the island was in August 2014 for employment in Dubai.

The family, dependent on his income, said he had been subjected to investigations by the SL military and the SL police earlier for his past association with the LTTE. He had been released after interrogations at the notorious 4th floor in Colombo in 2005.

The Tamil man from Ampaa'rai took his first employment in Saudi Arabia in 2004 after he had left the LTTE following the defection of Muralitharan alias Karuna. But, he returned after a few months as he was not satisfied with the contract in Saudi Arabia.

In 2005, he tried to go abroad again, but was arrested in Colombo and was subjected to investigations at the notorious 4th floor by the Sri Lankan Police and the SL military intelligence. He was also harassed in Ampaa'rai after his release. As he was unable to secure a job, he opted to seek employment in Dubai in 2006, the family said. He was working in Dubai from 2006 to 2011. After a few years, he again left for Dubai in August last year, they said.

The family has made a complaint with the Human Rights Commission office at Kalmunai (Complaint number: HRC/KL88/2015).

The SL military and police are monitoring and harassing the former LTTE members who are re-united with their families. The SL military is also monitoring the employment links of every member in their families, civil sources in Ampaa'rai told TamilNet.
