Sirisena declared SL President

Sri Lankan Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has officially declared Maithripala Sirisena as the new President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka around noon at his secretariat. Except the UPFA candidate Mahinda Rajapakse, all the other presidential candidates were present at the event.
UPFA Minister Susil Premajayantha was seen in the gathering. No other government leaders were seen at the event. UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe represented his party.
Making the official declaration in terms of the powers vested in him by the Constitution, Deshapriya said that Mr Sirisena obtained a majority of 51.28% votes, and is therefore the new President of the country.
Common Opposition Front candidate Maithiripala Sirisena secured 6,217,162 votes against Mahinda Rajapakse’s 5,768,090 votes.
