Sinhala military colonization escalates further north

Sinhala military colonization escalates further north in Mullaiththeevu

[TamilNet, Thursday, 21 November 2013, 21:35 GMT]
The occupying Sri Lankan military has seized 3,200 acres of lands belonging to Eezham Tamils in Odduchuddaan DS division situated in the heart of Mullaith-theevu district, civil sources in Vanni told TamilNet on Thursday. The latest military land grab aims to hurriedly Sinhalicise the ancient Tamil villages in Othiyamalai GS area situated in the south of Odduchuddaan division, where a genocidal massacre was carried out by the occupying Sinhala military in 1984. The colonisation is being done while the recently elected Northern Provincial Council and its Chief Minister are yet to take up the burning issue of Sinhala colonisation in Mullaiththeevu. The Tamil people also blamed the global powers for providing funds to Sri Lankan State system, enabling it to channel the funds and resources, in continuing to commit a demographic genocide, permanently wedging the North and East.
Othiyamalai

Othiyamalai
The SL military, with heavy machinery, is clearing the paddy fields and the high-lying cheanai-cultivation tracts in the ancient Tamil places known as Chempiyang-kua’lam and Karuveappa-mu’rippuk-ku’lam, eyewitnesses who managed to visit the area said adding that the lands have been surveyed and divided into smaller plots for the expansion of the colonization scheme.

A new road is also being constructed to connect the settlements with the newly carved out Sinhala division ‘Weli-Oya’ in the southeast of Othiyamalai. The road will be connecting Othiyamalai with Ma’na’laaru through Pazhaiya-kompanith-theru, they said.

The SL military has also cleared a large tract of jungle for the colonization scheme.

All the Tamil place names such as Kaarai-vaaykkaal, Nedungkea’niyaan, Vealang-ku’lam, have been Sinhalicised.

Electricity infrastructure has also been established for the settlers.
Othiyamalai

The area earlier known as Ceylon Theatre, where Tamil families were living till the Colombo’s genocidal onslaught on Vanni, has also been taken over by the SL military to expand the Sinhala settlement.

On 2nd December 1984, the SL military that came from Padaviya massacred more than 32 Eezham Tamils at Othiyamalai. The Tamils were later chased away from the village.

Only a few Tamil families have been allowed to resettle at Othiyamalai, where a Pillaiyar temple is situated. These places would also be soon taken over by the SL military, the Tamil families residing there had told the visitors.

The Sinhala settlers brought to the area openly admit that they are new settlers who had been brought there after the war.

Sinhala military takes over Muslim cemetery

Sinhala military takes over Muslim cemetery at Pulmoaddai

[TamilNet, Saturday, 03 August 2013, 18:29 GMT]
Even the sole Muslim cemetery in Pulmoaddai at the narrow border between the North and East of the country of Ezham Tamils was not spared from appropriation by the occupying Sinhala military that bents on Sinhalicising and militarizing the strategic link. While the Tamil-speaking Muslims, who make 90 per cent of the traditional village of Pul-moaddai is left without a cemetery, about 500 acres of land in that place has been given to a Buddhist monk to build a Sinhala-Buddhist enclave. The military and Survey Department of the Sinhala State were openly involved in the project. The blatant demographic genocide takes place while there is a Muslim Chief Minister in the East, proving what is ultimately aimed by the Provincial Councils backed by New Delhi and Washington, political activists in the East said.

The Muslim cemetery of the coastal village is appropriated by the occupying Sinhala State Navy.

Apart from the cemetery, Muslim lands in the village are also taken over on a massive scale, news sources said.

Last week, a meeting was held in the office of the chief minister of the Eastern Provincial Council to discuss the ongoing appropriation of lands belonging to Muslims in Pulmoaddai.

But the provincial system may not be able to do any thing political observers said.

Pul-moaddai (meaning grassy pond), situated at a sandbar on the side of the Eastern Province of the North-East border, is not only a must location from the genocidal point of view, but is also a place of significant economic importance because of the ilmanite deposits found there beneath the white sand dunes.

During the genocidal war, the military of New Delhi Establishment had a station there ostensibly for the purpose of medical assistance, but actually to coordinate monitoring.

It is likely that the international Establishments are interested in militarizing Pul-moaddai. But as they have no choice other than promoting Sinhala military, the structural genocide taking place at Pul-moaddai and throughout the country of Ezham Tamils also cannot be stopped, unless masses take up the struggle in different dimensions, making it inevitable for the involved powers to deliver justice, political observers in the island commented.

US Navy, Sinhala military engage in joint training

US Navy, Sinhala military engage in joint training operations in Trincomalee

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 16 July 2013, 05:28 GMT]
American Navy SEALS and the Sri Lankan military are currently conducting joint training operations at the Sinhala military occupied Trincomalee. The Annual Joined Combined Exchange Training (JCET) between the US Naval Special Warfare Community and the Sri Lankan military named ‘Flash Style’, which commenced on 2 July at the naval dockyard in Trincomalee, is scheduled to conclude on 19 July. Joint training exercises with the same name had been conducted earlier in 2000, before the commencement of the internationally abetted war on the de-facto state of the LTTE. Given this prolonged cooperation between the US armed forces and the genocide-accused Sinhala military, one is forced to arrive at the conclusion that the Pentagon’s policy approves of the genocidal policy of the Sri Lankan state, a Tamil analyst commented.

“Special Boat Squadron, Fast Attack Flotilla, Divers and Rapid Response Rescue and Release Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy and MI 24 Squadron and Regiment Special Forces of the Sri Lanka Air Force are taking part in the exercise along with a 10- member US team from US Navy SEALs, Special Boat Unit and Air Force,” Sri Lanka Navy said in an release.

In 2000, the US conducted similar ‘Flash Style’ exercises with the Sri Lankan Navy. In that time, a team from the US Army Psy-Ops Group was also training the Sri Lanka Army on techniques of psychological war.

In 2002, according to British author Paul Moorcraft, the US Department of Defence gave the Sri Lankan military the idea to use cluster bombs on the LTTE held areas.

Sinhala military takes up Buddhicisation of East

Sinhala military takes up Buddhicisation of East

[TamilNet, Saturday, 13 July 2013, 05:59 GMT]
The Sinhala military occupying the East of the country of Eezham Tamils is directly engaged in Buddhicising the province, news sources in Batticaloa said, citing the mushrooming Buddha statues in the district in the recent times. Meanwhile, Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Mr R. Thurairatnam said that an effort is now being undertaken to create permanent Buddhist establishments out of the improvised Buddhist shrines built in the SL military camps. Such shrines were ostensibly built for the ‘religious purposes’ of the occupying military and they could be found everywhere, as the Sinhala military is occupying every junction and other strategic locations.

Already small Buddhist temples have now come up at regular intervals in the Batticaloa –Colombo A4 Highway, right from Naavaladi Junction in Batticaloa to Punaanai at the border of the district, so that one who travels in the Batticaloa district will see only a ‘Buddhist’ district.

At Aaraiyampathi (Aaraip-pattai) in the Kaaththaan-kudi SL police division, the Sinhala military was earlier occupying a handloom mill, and it has planted a Bo-Tree and has built a Buddhist shrine there. Even after the military vacating the mill, the mill workers are unable to clear these structures and clean the place. The SL police intervened when they tried to remove them.

People in Baticaloa are disturbed and they are suspicious of the entire modus operandi, said Mr. Thurairatnam.

People come and complain that with the placement of every Buddha statue, bigger permanent Buddhist enclaves are planned and the SL military is behind the move, the parliamentarian said.

Tamils are not against Buddhism, but this kind of activities will disrupt communal harmony. The SL military should desist from such activities and the mushrooming statues in the traditional land of Tamils should be removed. We will not permit such cultural onslaught and the grab of our land through such activities, the parliamentarian further said.

Indian outfits, Sinhala military, hijack Tamil religious struggle in East

Indian outfits, Sinhala military, hijack Tamil religious struggle in East

[TamilNet, Thursday, 27 June 2013, 08:57 GMT]
An RSS-linked outfit ‘Hindu Sevaa Sangkam,’ (HSS) in collaboration with the genocidal Sinhala military, attempts to hijack and deviate the religious part of the struggle of the genocide-facing Eezham Tamils in the East. Backed by SL military intelligence, and run by members of the Pillaiyaan group, the HSS uses the name of Vishva Hindu Parishad in infiltrating and breaking the national struggle of Eezham Tamils, in order to serve the unholy alliance of Indian corporatism and genocidal Sinhala State, news sources in Batticaloa said. Under the occupying Sinhala military, while Saiva temples face destruction, desecration and plunder everyday, but new Buddhist stupas mushroom, a protest of the grassroot YMHA was banned but an HSS hoodwink was permitted this month in Batticaloa.

Several Hindu temples in the East have been destroyed, desecrated and plundered in the recent times. Many of them are located near to the Sinhala military camps. So far no action has ever been taken on the complaints by Tamils. Even a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was destroyed in Batticaloe recently. In the meantime new Buddhist structures in the form of statues, stupas, shrines and temples appear like mushrooms everywhere, especially in the localities of the Sinhala military camps.

Earlier this month, the Young Men Hindu Association (YMHA) of the Batticaloa district, which is an umbrella organisation of 127 Saiva/ Hindu grassroot associations in the district, has planned to conduct a peaceful protest march against the on-going religious genocide in the East.

While Buddhist outfits such as the Budu Bala Sena that spearhead the genocide against Tamils and Muslims in the East conduct their aggressive marches without any permission from anybody, the occupying Sri Lanka’s police in the East refused permission to the protest march of the YMHA.

The YMHA members later held a meeting at the Theattaath-theevu Pillaiyaar temple to discuss future plans. TNA parliamentarian for Batticaloa, Mr. C. Yogesvaran also has participated the meeting. The parliamentarian was later grilled by the SL intelligence whether any ‘training’ was being planned for the YMHA members.

In the meantime, in order to diffuse any polarisation of mass protest coming from the Eezham Tamils in the East, and in order to hijack and deviate any such polarisation, the Sinhala military intelligence has backed the RSS-linked Hindu Sevaa Sangkam (HSS) to conduct a hoodwink protest.

The HSS members were ushered by the Sinhala military intelligence to meet the Eastern Commander of the occupying Sinhala military at the Welikanda base, to plan the ‘protest’ demonstration, informed sources said.

The HSS ‘protest’ was staged in the name of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

A person named Sudharshan of the Pillaiyan group, which is collaborating with Mahinda Rajapaksa, runs the HSS in the East.

VHP is considered as an outfit having links with the Hindu right wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India, which in turn has links with the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquartered in Nagpur in Maharashtra, and with the Mumbai-based Shiv Sena.

The TNA parliamentarian Mr.Yogeswaran is an elected political representative in the international body of the VHP, but he had nothing to do with the HSS-SL military hoodwink staged in the name of the VHP, informed sources said.

For a long time the VHP and other Indian-linked religious outfits operating from Colombo are engaged in ‘Sanskritizing’ Saiva/ folk religion of Tamils in the East, grassroot cultural activists in the East say.

A few years back, a Chennai-based, non-Tamil academic, having long links with New Delhi’s ‘national security’ apparatus tried to create a wedge in the religious shades between the Jaffna Tamils and the Up-country Tamils.

A diaspora activist, who recently organized a conference in a Western country on the Saiva Siddhanta shade of religion of Eezham Tamils, was not permitted to land in India (after given with visa) when he went there with his family for the medical treatment of a seriously ill family member. Only such Eezham Tamils have become a ‘security threat’ for New Delhi, when all kinds of crime-accused elements of the Sinhala State and its military come and go as guests.

Tamils carefully watch the developments in the East as the signals coming from the BJP camp are in defence of the genocidal Sinhala military occupying the country of Eezham Tamils and show patronage to the genocidal brand of Buddhism of the Sinhala State.

Sometime ago, an Indian holy man of political engagements, Sri Sri Ravishankar went to Batticaloa as a guest of Pillaiyan collaborating with Rajapaksa, when Pillaiyan was CM of East.

Neither the right wing BJP nor the left wing CPI-M make any difference from the Sonia Congress-led Establishment in New Delhi that is steadily in complicity with the genocide committed and being committed by the Sinhala State. The same is reflected in the stands of whether the Mumbai-based Times Group or the Chennai-based The Hindu, Tamil political observers in the island said.

On the whole, the genocide and annihilation of the nation of Eezham Tamils in the island has become an obsession more with both the fundamentalist as well as Stalinist elements in India, than with the Sinhala State in the island, as this genocide is now considered to be the easiest highway to promote corporate and imperial interests, the observers further said, adding that the elements would not hesitate even in creating a hybrid religion and imposing that on the subjugated Tamils.

It is such patronage coming from India that emboldens the Sinhala State to arrogantly insist that even Tamils in Tamil Nadu should accept its military committing genocide on Eezham Tamils. This week, Colombo was adamant in its military personnel getting Indian training in the soil of Tamil Nadu. After protests in Tamil Nadu, when India wanted to shift the personnel to another State, Colombo rejected it and withdrew the personnel.

Sinhala military wants ‘Kappan’ from Batticaloa Tamil farmers

Sinhala military wants ‘Kappan’ from Batticaloa Tamil farmers

Aiming at totally bankrupting the Tamil farmers of Koa'raippattu South (Kiraan) division in Batticaloa district, the occupying Sri Lankan military, which schemes Sinhalicisaton and colonisation of the pasturelands in the division, now demand 3,000 rupees per 10 cattle from the Tamil farmers. The ‘Kappan’ military of Sri Lanka has instructed the Tamil farm-owners to pay the money before 25th of this month. The extortion is taking place in the name of providing ‘housing’ to disabled Sinhala soldiers, the farmers from Alli-oadai village told TamilNet on Friday.

Earlier, Tamil paramilitary personnel operated by the SL military were demanding money.

But this time, the extortion has reached a larger proportion.

The SL military now wants the Tamil farmers to give up grazing their cattle and farming in the area, the Tamil farmers complain.

The officers of the occupying Sinhala military have earlier registered the number of cattle owned by the Tamil farmers in the division. They are now using these figures to demand large sums of money from the Tamil farmers.

Already, more than 500 Sinhalese brought from the South have encroached into the pasturelands and the Sinhala ‘Civil Defence Force’ paramilitary operated by Colombo has been killing and stealing the cattle of Tamil farmers.

The Tamil name of the village Alli-oadai (lotus pond) has also been changed to ‘Aliayaa-oadai’ in Sinhala by the occupying military.

Two months ago, the Sri Lanka Army soldiers at the nearby Koaddaik-kallaa'ru were harassing the Tamil villagers for money, showing a letter in English and Sinhala that they were constructing houses for disabled Sri Lankan soldiers.

Kappan in Sinhala, related to Kappam in Tamil and meaning taxes or tribute, is widely used today as a word for extortion of money.

Colombo plans Sinhala military settlement in Valikaamam North

Colombo plans Sinhala military settlement in Valikaamam North

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 28 May 2013, 23:51 GMT]
While the uprooted Eezham Tamils of Valikaamam North confront the occupying Sri Lankan State against the seizure of their lands in the former ‘High Security Zone’ (HSZ), the Sri Lankan military is moving fast with its secret plans of establishing permanent Sinhala military settlements to bring in families of the Sinhala soldiers into the former HSZ in Jaffna. Informed paramilitary sources in Jaffna told TamilNet Tuesday that a Sri Lankan commander has been assigned the task of converting the former HSZ into a Sinhala Military Zone (SMZ), consisting of Palaali military base. Already, more than 5,000 houses have been constructed in Mu'rika'ndi in Vanni and families of Sinhala soldiers are being provided housing there. There are at least 30,000 Sinhala soldiers stationed in the Jaffna peninsula.

All the Establishments of the global powers have been abetting the militarisation project of the Sri Lankan State, which is converting the occupied region consisting of fertile lands and significant fish beds into a Sinhala Military Zone.

The SL State has been ‘developing’ the SMZ with power supply from a Chinese corporate, renovating the port and the airstrip with Indian assistance and clearing the mines with Western aid. Tourist resorts and Buddhist scared zones have also been set-up.

Alternative political activists in Jaffna, who welcomed the recent two-pronged legal efforts by the lawyers in Jaffna and the lawyers in Colombo against the seizure of lands by the SL military in Jaffna, said that the Sri Lankan state remained confident in thwarting the legal efforts, which are confined to the parameters of the Sri Lankan unitary constitution.

“The Tamil diaspora is failing to address the issue by challenging the Establishments that continue to abet the structural genocide,” they further said.

Meanwhile, in an effort to play down the level of the militarisation, the Sri Lankan military commander in Jaffna, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, is engaged in a propaganda stating that the SL military is reducing its presence to maintaining only three military bases in Jaffna.

But, in practice, more lands are being occupied also outside the former HSZ to establish military camps.

The paramilitary sources also said that the SL Navy was silently militarising the coastal areas in the Jaffna peninsula and that the Tamil people are being indirectly forced to sell their properties and vacate the islets.

In the meantime, the SL presidential sibling and defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has warned the government of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa that giving police and land powers to the provinces meant that the Northern Province comprising the districts of Jaffna, Mullaiththeevu, Vavuniyaa, Mannaar and Ki'linochchi could pose a ‘major security challenge’ to the SL unitary state in the future.

Sinhala military to host send-off party marking Indian envoy’s promotion

Sinhala military to host send-off party in Jaffna, marking Indian envoy’s promotion

[TamilNet, Sunday, 05 May 2013, 03:16 GMT]
New Delhi Establishment’s High Commissioner in Colombo, Ashok K. Kantha and his wife will be getting a ‘warm send-off’ on Monday, arranged by the genocidal Sinhala military occupying Jaffna, felicitating his services and promotion as Secretary–East at New Delhi’s Ministry of External Affairs, news sources in Jaffna said. Sri Lanka military hosting a send-off party, that too in the occupied land of Eezham Tamils, and the Indian envoy accepting it, is unprecedented, but very significant in comprehending the current level of recognition India provides to Sinhala militarisation and the extent of partnership in genocide, news sources in Jaffna further said. Mr Ashok Kantha was posted in Colombo after the war and continued for more than three years in the service of structuring Indo-Lanka partnership over the structural genocide of Eezham Tamils.

The send-off party for the New Delhi diplomat is scheduled to take place at Palaali in the ‘High Security Zone’ that is now being converted into a permanent Sinhala Military Zone after issuing confiscation notices to houses and productive lands of around 50,000 Tamils.

The felicitation takes place while Eezham Tamils and their political parties wage agitations against the appropriation.

But, whether Tamil politicians in the island who get ‘instructions’ from the powers and insinuate into peoples' agitations just to get the credit would stage a direct demonstration against Ashok Kantha getting felicitation in the confiscated land, is a question, commented Tamil activists of alternative politics in Jaffna.

Tamil civil society members noticed aloofness and brushing-aside attitude in Ashok Kantha when he visited Jaffna for the first time along with the then Foreign Secretary of New Delhi, Nirupama Menon Rao, after the war.

According to news sources in Jaffna, the Sinhala military enjoys a cordial relationship with Mr Ashok Kantha, while its relationship with the Indian Consul at Jaffna Mr V. Mahalingam is strained from time to time.

The Sinhala military is suspicious of the wide network and relationships built by Mr Mahalingam in Jaffna, and the animosity reflected in slogans raised against him in protests simulated by the SL military, the news sources said, adding that the motive behind the present felicitation is the genocidal military commanded by Hathurusinghe in Jaffna messaging India on the style of diplomacy.

However, political observers in Tamil Nadu said that the Sinhala military is keen in engaging further with Mr Ashok K Kantha in his new and more influential position, especially in view of the fact that he is a close relative of the BJP leader and potential future Prime Ministerial candidate, Mr Yashwant Sinha.

Ashok K Kantha is married to Mr Yashwant Sinha's daughter Sharmila.

Last month, on 04 April, Yashwant Sinha was cited by Deccan Herald as saying that “Tamil Eelam is not far away”, in a BJP meeting at Chennai.

Two days later, on 06 April, India Today reported that Yashwant Sinha's nephew Dilip Sinha, who is India's ambassador to the United Nations, “played a leading role in formulating UPA's response to the US resolution on human rights in Lanka”.

The felicitation and the importance given to Mr Kantha by the Sinhala military have to be understood in the above background, political observers in Tamil Nadu said.

Diplomats at New Delhi's MEA, whether from the North or South, traditionally have a tendency of paying much recognition to the ‘sophistication’ of Sinhala diplomacy, while viewing the political parties and public sentiments in Tamil Nadu with utter contempt, sources close to the diplomats said.

Sinhala military assaults for calling in Tamil

Sinhala military assaults Trinco villagers for calling their village in Tamil

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 24 April 2013, 11:02 GMT]
Ilangkaith-thu’rai, meaning in this context “the islet-port,” is an ancient Tamil coastal village at a scenic location in the Eechchilam-pattai division of Trincomalee district. The occupying Sinhala military has Sinhalicized the place-name as “Lankaa-patana” and insists the local villagers to use the Sinhala name even in their speech. If any of the villagers mention their village name in Tamil, they are beaten up by the Sinhala military, news sources in Trincomalee said. Two years ago, the occupying military destroyed a Murukan temple located at the port entrance, appropriated 15 acres of land, and built a Buddhist temple named “Samudra-giri Vihara,” at that spot. While the village roads are in dilapidated condition, a new, broad road now links the Buddhist temple, facilitating Sinhala visitors from the South who come in thousands nowadays.
Location of Ilangkaith-thu'rai

The word Ilangkai in ancient Tamil usage originally meant any island in the sea or any islet in rivers etc. The Austro-Asiatic form of the word Lankaa also originally meant the same as could be seen in many place names in the tribal parts of Central India and Andhra.

By popularity of usage, Lankaa/ Ilangkai became exclusive terms for what is called the island of ‘Sri Lanka’ today.

The Tamil usage of calling any islet in the river or in the backwaters also as Ilangkai is not found in Sinhala.
Ilangkaith-thu'rai
Ilangkaith-thu’rai is the small islet lying across little inside of the lagoon entrance [Image courtesy: Google Earth]
Ilangkaith-thu’rai village in Trincomalee district gained the name, as there is a small islet located at the entrance to the port, at the mouth of the sea-inlet. Ilangkai, in this context, stands for the islet at the mouth of the lagoon and this evidences an ancient form of usage of the word by the Tamils in the island.

This name has nothing to do with the Lankaa or ‘Sri Lanka’ that is imposed on Eezham Tamils in a genocidal fashion by the State in Colombo and by its international abetters. The SL military has no justification or authority in Sinhalicizing the place name and forcing the Tamils to use it, the civil society sources in Trincomalee said.

Depriving Tamils of their coasts and sea is the larger plan, which is in fact genocide at sea to go hand in hand with genocide at land, the civil society sources said.

If the Eastern Provincial Council has any meaning, how could a place name be changed, the civil society sources asked, adding that the Geneva resolution is aiming on a similar course to the North too, by harping on the Northern PC elections.

The State in Sri Lanka and its Sinhala military occupying the country of Eezham Tamils are encouraged in every way to accelerate and continue the structural genocide, by the attitude of the International Community of Establishments (ICE), especially by the USA and India that neither recognized the territoriality of Eezham Tamils, nor the genocide, Tamil civil society circles in Trincomalee said.

Colombo’s structural genocide activities show a marked escalation since the passing of the US-tabled, Indian fine-tuned, resolution at Geneva this March, the civil society circles further said.

95 Tamil girls ‘alter’ the image, says 300,000 strong Sinhala military

95 Tamil girls ‘alter’ the image, says 300,000 strong Sinhala military

[TamilNet, Sunday, 24 March 2013, 14:09 GMT]
The 300,000-strong genocidal Sinhala military of Sri Lanka on Thursday took ‘pride’ in recruiting for the first time 95 Tamil girls for ‘office’ work and said that it is an evidence for the military not discriminating on ethnicity. Out of 150 Tamil girls who were originally forced to enter Sri Lanka’s military, 55 managed to escape. During the ‘training,’ around 20 driven to the stage of hysteria were admitted in hospital. The Tamil psychiatry doctor who came forward to their help himself was branded as mentally challenged. He is imprisoned and yet to be released. On the passing out parade day, four of the girls fainted, while their kith and kin were helplessly watching. Promises were made for one million rupees housing aid and 44 girls received Indian-made scooters, but parents complained that their daughters, held against their will, are not allowed to visit homes.
Tamil girls forcibly recruited by SLA
Tamil girls put on with SL military uniform after 3 months of lock-up. Those who wear black and yellow color are the new recruits

This is the ‘military reconciliation’ for the genocidal unity of the island that is groomed with tacit support or direct complicity of the USA, India, China, UK and several others, Tamil civil sources in the island said.

“Direct recruitment of Tamil women en bloc as woman soldiers to the Sri Lanka Army amply confirms the fact that the Army, contrary to allegations, made by some quarters, does not discriminate on ethnicity as such when it matters to recruitment of soldiers to the organization,” said Colombo’s military website on Friday.

In the 63-years history of the Sri Lanka Military, this is the first time it has recruited Tamil girls, the military website indirectly admitted the Sri Lanka military being Sinhala military.

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Brigadier, R. Ratnasingam, a Tamil, who is given the post as director of the Sports division of the SL military was posted by the occupying Sinhala military to receive the ‘passing out’ parade of the “First Batch of Tamil Female Soldiers” numbering 95.
Tamil girls forcibly recruited by SLA

The parade was timed for the voting at Geneva on the LLRC-based resolution tabled by the USA and fine-tuned by India.

In the meantime, SL military intelligence operatives were monitoring the families, especially the parents who try to get their girls from the grips of SL military. Media persons who try to talk to the girls in the military ‘custody’ are also being monitored by the SL military intelligence.

The 95 girls were locked up inside a military training camp and were paraded against their will in Ki’linohchi, sources in Vanni said.

Their parents complained that their daughters, who had been promised jobs, were put in military uniform for the training against their will.

There were alleged reports of harassments meted to them and 21 of the girls were admitted to the hospital in mentally affected state in December 2012. The SL military harassed Tamil politicians who voiced for the rights of the girls.

At the end of December 2012, a Tamil Medical Officer, Ratnasingham Sivashankar, who came to the help of a girl who had been refused access to her house after sitting for her exam, entered into a dispute with the military officials. He was ‘arrested’ by the SL military and was later imprisoned, under various charges alleged on him. The doctor who had specialized in Psychiatry and had voiced for the rights of the Tamil girls, is still under detention.

The SL military is showing interest in recruiting Tamil girls, news sources in Vanni said.

In the last three years the SL military is also engaged in giving obligatory military training to students recruited to the universities. Even though tagged as ‘leadership training’ what is forcefully delivered to the students at the SL military camps is training of military nature, university student circles said.

Apart from being a kind of psychological operation and ragging of the students by the SL military that is becoming the actual ruling, economic and commercial force in the island, the military may soon forcefully recruit the graduates too and the ‘training’ is to identify who should be recruited, the student circles further said.

Tamil students, both boys and girls, who are forced to go to the camps are harassed, beaten up and are robbed by the fellow Sinhala students.

The SL military now demands that Tamil government servants also should undergo the military’s ‘Leadership Training’ programme.

Sinhala military ‘ragging’ university entrants

Sinhala military ‘ragging’ university entrants continues

[TamilNet, Saturday, 09 March 2013, 01:25 GMT]
Sinhala military ragging students entering the universities, in the name of obligatory residential ‘leadership training’ given in the military camps in the island of Sri Lanka, continues unchecked for the third year. The programme is a double ragging to the Tamil students, from the SL military side as well as from the side of fellow Sinhala students, news sources in the island said.

Ragging was a psychological disease in the universities in the south of the island, especially at Peradeniya in the 70s, when class differences becoming prominent in the university tried to find outlets through ragging.

Ragging wans banned in the universities in the 80s.

It has been now taken over by the Sinhala military, students and parents say.

The SL military insists that the students should bring items listed by them to the camps, including jeans etc., for the girl students. The items cost around 15,000 SLR, parents say.

Parents of poor students, especially in the East find it difficult. Many Tamil students stopped going to the obligatory programme without worrying about their admissions getting rejected, either because of discouragement by parents or because of their own conviction for self-respect.

Apart from the kind of ‘training’ they get from the Sinhala military that involves hardships and psychological threat, Tamil students complain of harassment by fellow Sinhala students, whether boys or girls. Theft is common and on many instances the Tamil students find even their whole bags ‘missing’.

The Sinhala military programme has become an occasion showing who are the masters in the island, student circles returning from the camps said.

In the meantime, the Sinhala military has started giving ‘training programmes’ to civil officials in the East as well, news sources said.

Sinhala military, Malayala martial arts in Jaffna

Sinhala military, Malayala martial arts to mark Indian celebrations in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Thursday, 31 January 2013, 00:36 GMT]
Marking India’s 64th Republic Day (26-01-2013) celebrations, a performance of Malayala Martial Arts, called Ka’larip-payattu, has been organized at Veerasingam Hall in Jaffna on Thursday, by New Delhi’s Consulate General in Jaffna. The Commander of the Sinhala military occupying Jaffna, Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe, will be the Chief Guest at the celebrations, presided over by New Delhi’s Consul General in Jaffna, Mr. V. Mahalingam. Genocidal Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Culture and Arts and New Delhi’s Indian Council of Cultural Relations jointly sponsor the programme. Meanwhile, India is in the top in training genocidal Sri Lanka’s Sinhala military at the rate of 1400 personnel per year, admitted, New Delhi’s envoy in Colombo Ashok K. Kantha.
Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe, commander of the occupying Sinhala military in Jaffna will be the chief guest and V. Mahalingam, Consul General of India in Jaffna will preside over a performance of Malayala Martial Arts in Jaffna on Thursday.

New Delhi’s military training to Sri Lanka is bigger than what anyone else provide and globally, India is Sri Lanka’s largest trading partner, Colombo media reports cited the Indian envoy saying on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations in Colombo on Saturday.

SL Senior Minister Ratnasri Wikremanayake thanked New Delhi for its ‘unconditional support’ at a crucial stage of his country’s history in helping to defeat the LTTE.

In the meantime, to enhance New Delhi’s ‘reaching out’ agenda towards genocidal Sri Lanka, some new proposals have been made by Indo-Lanka Joint Study Group run by many old hands at the game.

Prof V. Suryanarayanan, PKH Tharakan IPS, General Deepak Kapoor, Vijay Singh IAS and Gopinathan IFS – all retired from Indian intelligence related fields and services– make the Indian side of the membership of the ‘Study Group’.

Finding that “Aggressive stand taken by India from time to time with regard to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka,” has made “lack of trust” to permeate into various levels of society in the island, the study group’s post-achievement proposals are now reduced to ‘devolution through the provinces’ without causing any ‘constrains,’ and implementation of Colombo’s LLRC recommendations. In fact, political solution is now marginalised in their new studies.

* * *
The Indian Consulate in Jaffna in an initial press release on Tuesday said that SL Governor in the North, Maj. Gen. Chandrasiri would be the chief guest for its programme on Thursday. But on the same day a revised press release appeared that SL Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe would be the chief guest. The change was indicated in bold characters.
New Delhi’s Malayala Martial Arts showcase in Jaffna on Thursday is “for the benefit of Art lovers of the Northern Province,” said the press release of New Delhi’s Consulate General in Jaffna on Tuesday.

The Malayala Martial Arts communities are not new to the peoples in the island, as Pa’nikkars and Kuruppus were people integrated into the Eezham Tamils and Sinhalese.

But what is new is the Sanskritized culture of New Delhi’s imperialism coming out with terms such as Dhanur-veda and Marma-chikilsa in introducing the ancient art of the Dravidians, known as Ka’larip-payattu (literally meaning the Arena or Battlefield Training in Dravidian: Ka’lam > Ka’lari: the arena, battlefield, DED 1376; Payil > Payittu, Payattu: learn, train, DED 3942) commented Aesthetic Studies circles in Jaffna.

They also commented upon the Consulate General, in its Hindi signboards and letterheads, choosing to write Yaazhppaa’nam as ‘Jaaphnaa’ in Devanagari (Bhaarata Kaa Pradhaana Konsalaavaasa, Jaaphnaa), adopting the anglicised form instead of the original Tamil form.

During the genocidal war, Malayala Witchcraft was a favourite of the politically topmost in Colombo. The Indian Council of Cultural Relations will have many followers among the Sinhala politicians if it could start an academy in the island to teach and practise such arts and crafts, the Aesthetic Studies circles commented further.

Sinhala military opens ‘holiday resorts’ in occupied Jaffna

Sinhala military opens ‘holiday resorts’ in occupied Jaffna with ‘Kiribath Pongkal’

[TamilNet, Monday, 14 January 2013, 21:12 GMT]
Amidst the beat of Sinhala drums and blessings of Sinhala-Buddhist monks, the SL military occupying Jaffna opened two new ‘holiday resorts’ on Sunday at Mayiliddi, and at Kaankeasan-thu’rai (KKS), which are under High Security Zone, along the northern coast of Jaffna. To mark the opening, an SL Military ‘Kiribath Pongkal’ was also conducted at the new buildings. While the housing and even shelters of the hundreds of thousands of Eezham Tamils affected by the genocidal onslaught of the Sinhala military is still a pressing question, the military opening and running ‘holiday resorts’ for its use shows that Sri Lanka is not making any pretensions of its colonial conquest and rule over Eezham Tamils in the model of European colonialists, civil society sources in Jaffna commented.

The ‘holiday resorts’ are for the use of all ranks of the SL military and the military has made ‘good use’ of the abandoned and barren ‘state’ land given to it, claimed the website of the Sinhala Army occupying the country of Eezham Tamils.

SLA commander Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya “soon after the culmination of the humanitarian operations” [genocidal war] launched “a project to upgrade existing ones or construct new Army holiday resorts for all ranks since battlefield commitment hardly provided them with desired holiday spirit or opportunities, particularly in the company of their family members,” said the website of the Sri Lanka Army.

The SLA commander along with the Jaffna SLA commander Maj Gen Hathurusinghe opened the occupying military's ‘holiday resorts’ on Sunday.

A Sinhala military city is fast developing along with the cantonment, harbour and airport at the HSZ including KKS and Palaali on the northern coast of Jaffna, observers in Jaffna said.

The ultimate culprits are not the Sinhala military, but the ones in some world Establishments, who want everyone to see what is happening in the North and East as not genocide and colonialism but ‘development and reconciliation.’ They knowingly experiment with the situation to prove what a genocidal military could achieve, civil society sources in Jaffna further commented.

New Delhi grooming Sinhala military needs careful perusal in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi grooming Sinhala military needs careful perusal in Tamil Nadu

[TamilNet, Monday, 09 July 2012, 02:11 GMT]
In the wake of reports on New Delhi continuing its training to Sinhala military personnel at a base in Bangalore after transferring them from Chennai following opposition from Tamil Nadu government, the Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa on Saturday said "Tamils want action for war crimes against Sri Lanka. We will not accept the training of Sri Lankan airmen anywhere in India." New Delhi’s obsession with grooming the Sinhala military after being in complicity with it in the genocide of Eezham Tamils needs careful perusal in Tamil Nadu, in the background of mushrooming Sinhala military bases trained against Tamil Nadu, New Delhi pressing for subjugation of Eezham Tamils within a united Sri Lanka model when one party has a genocidal military and the other has none, and in addition, New Delhi currently sitting in the UNHRC monitor group on Sri Lanka, observers said.

It is well known that the occupying Sinhala military’s bases and cantonments, built with Chinese assistance in large tracts of grabbed land in the country of Eezham Tamils, ultimately target Tamil Nadu.

Unless some ‘advisors’ in New Delhi in their folly think that being in ‘strategic’ partnership with the Sinhala nation they could eventually appropriate those bases for New Delhi’s own use, there is no reason why India should have this much obsession in grooming the genocidal military. In such a case, those ‘advisors’ in New Delhi too expect targeting Tamil Nadu, the political observers in the island said.

Grooming the Sinhala military is carried out in consultation and competition between both India and the USA. High-ranking people of both the establishments met Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, behind the scene in Singapore, to ‘discuss’ naval assistances.

The Indian Air Force training to the Sinhala military currently takes place while Colombo has freshly grabbed lands of Eezham Tamils for a military airbase and airstrip at Mannar, at the closest point from Tamil Nadu.

One has to carefully scrutinize that why the large-scale Sinhala militarisation and colonization at Mannaar, KKS and Trincomalee, and one has to also carefully scrutinize in what way the LLRC upheld in the UNHRC by the very USA the architected the genocidal war and the Sinhala military-grooming New Delhi monitoring ‘progress’ would help justice to Eezham Tamils, the observers further said.

A few days ago, a batch of SL Air force personnel arrived at Tambaram Air Force station in Chennai, for a nine months training period as a part of bilateral agreement between the two countries. India and Sri Lanka became closely trustworthy for signing a military to military relationship pact after staging the genocidal war in complicity.

On 5th July, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalitha issued a statement condemning the presence of SL air force officers in Tamil Nadu’s territory calling the centre’s decision as “anti-Tamil” and criticizing the central government for paying no heed to the resolution passed in Tamil Nadu Assembly calling for war crimes investigation against SL president Mahinda Rajapaksa and an economic boycott of Sri Lanka until human rights situation improves in that country.

After this, there was an announcement that the air force personnel were being removed from the Tambaram base. Some newspapers reported that they had been sent back to Sri Lanka.

However, IANS Report on July 6th citing an IAF officer said that the Sri Lankan trainees were only being shifted to another air base in Bangalore, reportedly to Yelahanka, for the next phase of training, after having completed the Tambaram phase.

Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry has also said on Friday that "Reports about a group of Sri Lankan Airmen under training in Chennai being sent back to Sri Lanka is incorrect. They will continue their training in another location in India without any hindrance to their training programme."

No other reaction from the SL side.

Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, after a meeting with Mahinda and Gotabaya, told media last Friday, “We also discussed maritime cooperation and other security related issues. It was agreed that we could take this further. Sri Lanka is our close neighbour, with whom we enjoy a multifaceted and dynamic relationship. We look forward to strengthening and further developing this engagement,” reported The Hindu.

In recent years, visits of Indian officials and dignitaries to the island were proving satanic to Eezham Tamils.

The response coming from Ms Jayalalithaa is significant in directing the course of the struggle against the ultimate culprits, political activists in Tamil Nadu said.

“The people of Tamil Nadu would not accept providing training to the Lankan Air Force personnel at Bangalore instead of Tambaram. I reiterate my demand for deporting the Sri Lankan personnel to their country immediately and that they should not be given technical training in any other part of India,” the Chief Minister said in a statement on July 7.

Data reveals scheme for Sinhala military colonies in country of Eezham Tamils

[TamilNet, Sunday, 01 July 2012, 22:33 GMT]
Details emerging from four divisional secretariats of Mullaiththeevu district in Vanni, since April this year, indicate a concerted and structural move by the occupying Sri Lanka military establishment in Vanni to legally appropriate more than 6,069 acres of public and private lands in the country of Eezham Tamils. The pattern of genocidal land grab also reveals that Mullaiththeevu district is being transformed into a military enclave of the occupying Sinhala forces. TamilNet brings out some of the data it has obtained from the civil officials who have braved the threats by the military run civil administration, in releasing the details.

India and the US, denying nationhood and self-determination to Eezham Tamils and facilitating a ‘continued genocidal war’ in the island in the name of ‘reconciliation’ and ‘multi-culturalism’, are fully responsible for the prevailing situation, civil officials in Vanni commented.

Meanwhile, India's visiting National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon had ‘re-iterated’ that the SL government should not delay delivering a political solution any further, media reports in Colombo said on Friday.

“In fact, the ‘solution’ conceived by the genocidal Sinhala State is what it is currently doing in the country of Eezham Tamils in an accelerated way. Whether this is what that has been meant as not to be delayed any further by Shiv Shankar Menon,” asked a senior civil official.

Eezham Tamils have a long catalogue of experiences that, whether war or post-war, after every ‘visit’ of Indian officials, the genocidal agenda of the Sinhala state is accelerated in the island.

The Sinhala genocidal state is now engaged in a programme, nakedly setting a paradigm on how to conduct genocide by openly naming Sinhala military colonisation schemes as ‘War Heroes villages’.

Following are some of the details on the Sinhala military's genocidal land grab for its colonies in four of the five divisions of Mullaiththeevu district:

Odduchuddaan DS division:
At least 4,000 acres of lands are appropriated at Thiru-mu'rika'ndi to construct a city of SL military colony.

While denying the Tamils their lands and attacking those who claim their lands back resisting military threats, the SL military is bent on completing the military settlement at Thirumu'rika'ndi under the Sinhala project name ‘Ranaviru Gammana’ (War Heroes Village).

Allocating ‘development’ funds under SL President Mahinda Rajapkasas ‘National Building and Estate Infrastructure Development Ministry’, the Ranaviru Seva Authority, a statutory board under the SL Defence Ministry, has been behind the project in Thirumu'rika'ni located in Odduchuddaan division.

‘Mahinda Chintana‘, the programme of SL president, states that at least 50,000 such houses would be built for Sri Lankan soldiers and their families under ‘Ranaviru Gammana’.

In the projects completed in the South, each house was constructed at 1.5 million rupee. The Indian promise of 50,000 houses for Eezham Tamils, who have lost their houses in the war, is 0.5 million rupees for each house. The Indian programme is yet to commence in any meaningful scale.

A ‘Ranaviru Gammana’ village for Sinhala soldiers will have all infrastructure facilities such as roads, water supply, electricity, telephones, bank, bus station, market place, school and hospital.

According to SL military documents, soldiers in the ‘operational areas’ are entitled to receive houses in Ranaviru Gammana on a nominal monthly instalment.

Several ‘Ranaviru Gammanas’ are being planned in the North and East.

At Maangku'lam, 3rd division of the SLA is attempting appropriate 98 acres of land (39.67 hectares) permanently for its military base.

Puthuk-kudiyiruppu DS division:
15 acres of private lands have been encroached by the occupying SL military, which has established a large camp near the junction.

The 8th regiment of the SLA has seized 800 acres of public lands at Kaiveali.

SLA's 68-3 Brigade is appropriating 800 acres of private lands in Vallipunam.

Karaithu'raippattu DS division:
Several Sinhalese are being settled depriving Tamil fisher folk their livelihood along the militarised coastal strip of Mullaiththeevu.

The SL military has sought legalised transfer of large-scale public and private lands at more than 30 places. But, there are hundreds of military-localities consisting of houses of uprooted Tamil civilians. Such military-localities are found among the residential areas threatening the civilian life.

Following are some of the large-scale appropriation being schemed by the SL military through the military-run civil administration in Karaithu'raippattu division:

Land grab details from Vanni

Thu'nukkaay DS division:

SL military is appropriating large tracts of lands in Thu'nukkaay division. It seeks 350 acres in Thearaang-ka'ndal, 200 acres in Amaithi-puram, 150 acres in Koaddai-kaddiya-ku'lam, 112 acres in Aalang-ku'lam, 50 acres in Pazhaiya-Mu'rika'ndi and 50 acres in Thenniyan-ku'lam.

While forcefully expelled Tamils file the case at the Mullaiththeevu courts, in order to resettle them in their own villages, the number of Sinhala settlers in Tamil homeland, especially along the coastal belt of Vanni, has increased in recent times.

Nearly six thousand uprooted Tamils are still forced to live in the detention camps, while one section of the war victims were relocated to Koampaavil-Thimpili area against their will. Koampaavil remains completely out of the radar of international attention.

Not long ago, a Chinese-sponsored highway was built by the Sri Lankan state to facilitate transportation links between the occupied Tamil country with the South aiming to step up the structural genocide on the Tamil homeland.

Occupying Sinhala military prepares for ‘gala’ in Trincomalee

Occupying Sinhala military prepares for ‘gala’ in Trincomalee

In the name of a private organisation called ‘Green Classic’ and Tourism Development Board of genocidal Colombo, the occupying Sinhala military plans for a four-day gala carnival in Trincomalee in the first week of July, news sources in Trincomalee said. They aim to profit 40 million rupees by selling 1000 Rupees tickets to 500,000 visitors in the four days, but more than that, the hidden agenda is experimenting sophisticated ways of corrupting and conditioning especially the youth for the structural genocide that is projected as ‘reconciliation’ by the agent state and by its international abetters, Eezham Tamil political observers commented.

Gratifying the minds of Sinhalese by grabbing the country of Eezham Tamils, the State transforming into a militarised and criminal one by the war-crimes-accused military ultimately entering into ‘training’ university students and into entertainment business aiming at the youth of even school levels, has to be carefully understood by the Sinhala nation too, the political observers commented.

Keeping the fundamentals that caused a long war between the nations in the island unresolved to the subjugation of Eezham Tamils, the genocidal military of the Sinhala nation entering into entertainment business in Trincomalee, Indian company opening casino in Colombo, Chinese building cantonments in the North, the US bank aiding ‘defence secretary presided development’ of Colombo and Singapore minister investing on ‘post-war tourism boom’, are just facets of the same vicious experiment on humanity tested in the island in an orchestrated way, the political observers said.

* * *

The Sinhala military carnival in Trincomalee is organized at a time when the GCE A/L students, the main target group of the gala, have to prepare for the university entrance exams in August, parents in Trincomalee cited at the insensitivity of the occypying military minds.

Last year when the occupying military conducted a 7-day carnival in the name ‘Rise of the East’, military ware and weapons were major exhibits for visitors to have a feeling of them by touching and handling.

Such carnivals trumpeting the triumphalism of the genocidal military cause much strife in the relations of the peoples of Trincomalee when a large number of war-affected and displaced Eezham Tamils suffer in camps and in the houses of relatives and friends, civil sources in Trincomalee said.

The philosophy of Sinhala triumphalism repeatedly told to Eezham Tamils through such galas is that by accepting subjugation and by collaboration they also could share the ‘kick of merriment’.

* * *

Meanwhile, there is a set of collaborators in the island and in the diaspora that engages in another kind of galas in the island in the name of ‘literary festivals’ to trumpet ‘vindication’ and to showcase that ‘normalcy’ has come under Rajapaksa regime.

In seeking support, writers, journalists, artists and blogs in Tamil Nadu, apart from those in the diaspora and in the island, are targeted in recent times for funding, awarding, entertaining etc.

The whole scenario is once again an orchestrated ‘counterinsurgency’ operation aiming at numbing minds of the affected people and their supporters away from any struggle.

With a contingent of recruitment, among which many are gullible or opportunists, more resources and efforts are deployed at the ‘counterinsurgency’ exercise than in addressing the fundamentals, because the ultimate directors are fully conscious of the further crimes they are planning in the experiment in the island, said a political analyst in Chennai.

In the world of Vivek Oberois of the Bollywood and organisers of the Galle ‘literary festival’, Big Mountain, an alternative music group of the US, has taken a refreshing decision to decline invitation from genocidal Sri Lanka.

But the large and influential Tamil diaspora in the US, both from the Eezham Tamils and from Tamil Nadu has still not entered into a struggle inside the US. ‘Counterinsurgency’ intrigues are sitting on any such uprising and limit attention to boycotts and court cases. This is a struggle that has to be won inside the US and India by essentially addressing against the Establishments there, commented a diaspora activist in North America

Occupying SL military cancels resettlement in Ira’naip-paalai

Occupying SL military cancels resettlement in Ira’naip-paalai

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 18 October 2011, 08:31 GMT]
Occupying Sinhala military cancelled the resettlement of the war-displaced villagers of the Ira’naip-paalai village in the Puthukkudiyiruppu division of Mullaiththeevu district a few days ago. Facing the monsoon rains, the Tamil villagers continue to live in the camps in Vavuniyaa. Their resettlement was announced on the 7th of this month. While they were waiting for transportation after completing due registrations, the SL Army in the last minute cancelled the resettlement indefinitely. The demining has already been completed in the village, but the occupying Army has some special reasons for blocking the resettlement as it fears exposure of some of the details and evidences of its war crimes if resettlement is allowed without erasing all the remaining ‘traces’, informed sources said.

Ira’naip-paalai is located a few km east of Puthukkudiyiruppu towards Puthu-maaththa’lan in the coast where the last stages of the genocidal war took place.

Around 500 people belonging to 125 families of the village survived the war and are living in the camps in Vavuniyaa.

While people of the village are not resettled, the occupying military’s interest is in showing some of the facilities used by the LTTE in the village as ‘tourist attractions’ for the Sinhalese coming from the South to see the genocidal ground.

A house and a pond in the village are displayed as facilities used by one of the commanders of the LTTE’s Sea Tiger wing.

Meanwhile, a mass grave of around 35 people haphazardly buried in a paddy field near Ira’naippaalai is shown to the Sinhala visitors as burials of the victims of ‘LTTE’s killings’.

The villagers know well that these particular burials belong to some of the victims of SL aerial bombings, shelling of Puthukkudiyiruppu and those who were brought with injuries and died without medical facilities. Some of the victims of such sporadic killings in the war before the last days were buried in the paddy field, as there were no other facilities available at that time.

The people of the locality also know many other secrets of the genocidal war. Obviously, if resettlement is allowed lies cannot be said any longer.

Besides, a large number of burnt vehicles and other movable properties are still found in the village. The Occupying military also eyes on them with greed, people of Vanni say.

* * *

Even though demining has been completed in the village, issuing a certificate in this regard to the SL Government Agent in Mullaiththeevu is still stalled.

Theavi-puram, Aananda-puram, Koampaa-vil and Maaththa’lan are the four villages around Ira’naip-paalai. 1760 families belonging to these villages as well as Ampalavan-pokka’nai and Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal East have to be resettled.

Their resettlement is planned not in their original villages but in a forest outside of Koampaa-vil. They will continue to face another camp life there.

Some people are resettled at Theavipuram, but they face a prison life. Everyone who enters the village has to handover his or her identity card to the SL military keeping the open prison. Outsiders can’t stay for more than a day in the village.

Even after submitting the identity card a SL military personnel will follow the visitor to see which house the person visits.

Ira’naip-paalai will have the same fate, even if resettled, social workers familiar with realities in Vanni said.

* * *

The small, beautiful village of Ira’nap-paalai in the past was engaged in deep-sea fishing in the Indian Ocean, lagoon fishing in a patch of water connected to Nanthik-kadal and small-scale farming in the hinterland.

Even in the late 1980s, occupying SL and Indian militaries targeted the village, affecting its deep-sea fishing, since the village was an important link in the Jaffna – Mullaiththeevu communication of the LTTE.

Under the LTTE-run civil administration, the villagers once again were able to go for deep-sea fishing, but that was stopped when the SL military was using the sea for its Jaffna – Trincomalee communication, after the closure of the A9 Highway.

People were then depending on fishing by throw-net in the lagoon and rain-fed cultivation. The LTTE had a Black Tiger military base in the village.

Ira’naip-paalai is beyond identification even to its own people now. That much of destruction – houses without roofs and burnt vehicles.

A real resettlement of the people means proper housing and restoration of deep-sea as well as lagoon fishing rights and facilities.

Occupying military keeping the people of the land subjugated in open prisons, while Sinhalese fish in their seas and ‘victors’ pay visit to whet their feeling of triumphalism is neither resettlement nor reconciliation but continuation of genocidal torture, commented a ‘resettled’ social worker in Vanni.
