ITAK leaders stand exposed as powers deceive Tamils with hypocritical investigations

Refusing to look at the affairs of the nation of Eezham Tamils through their homeland in the North-East and being bent on approaching the Eezham Tamils through Colombo-centric geopolitical designs, the West and the UN mechanisms have nakedly exposed themselves even before the ink went dry on the OISL report and the ‘US-Sri Lanka’ co-sponsored resolution in the UN Human Rights Council. In the meantime, the leaders of Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) stand exposed for their lack of statesmanship and for the failure of not clarifying TNA's position regarding the deceptive path of ‘domestic’ investigations. The ITAK leaders have also failed the nation of Eezham Tamils by not demanding the release the Tamil political prisoners, who have been rotting in the jails of genocidal Sri Lanka for years.
Former Parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran, who is the leader of EPRLF, one of the parties comprising the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), has demanded immediate clarifications from Mr Sampanthan.

The Sri Lankan State has categorically stated that it is not going punish the main culprits alleged of war crimes and crimes against humanity on the Sinhala side, Mr Premachandran told TamilNet.
The former SL president who was the commander-in-chief of the SL armed forces, his brother who was the defence secretary and the key commanders of the SL military are not going to be punished, Premachandran said citing the statements recently made by the official spokesperson of the ruling party.
A cabinet spokesperson of the SL regime has gone on record stating that there will be no international judges in the so-called Special Court to be constituted to undertake the investigations as specified in the resolution, which was co-sponsored by the SL State in Geneva, Mr Premachandran added.
“Why do you want to have this sort of an inquiry if you cannot punish the culprits? If you are not in a position to give them punishment, then why do you want this investigation? Why do we need this Special Court,” Premachandran questioned.
Mr R. Sampanthan, the opposition leader and Mavai Senathiraja, the ITAK leader, who were supporting and welcoming the SL move on Special Court, must now clarify to Tamil people where they stand on this matter, the EPRLF leader demanded in the interview to TamilNet on Friday.
While the criminals accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the OISL report are being entertained by the changing regimes of the Sri Lankan State, the Tamils who were fighting for their liberation by extending support or working for the LTTE have been jailed in the SL prisons for several years now. They should be given general amnesty and released, he further said.
The SL regime is only thinking about releasing a section of them on bail. This is not acceptable to Tamils, Mr Premachandran further said.
In the meantime, Mr Atul Keshap, the US Ambassador in Colombo who accompanied the visiting U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issue, Ms Cathy Russell, to Jaffna, were telling Rt Rev Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, the Bishop of Jaffna that the US government preferred to assist the war-affected people in North through Colombo-based ‘Sri Lankan’ unitary State.
The SL Government was providing only minimal help to the war-victims and the assistance by various NGOs was enough to meet the needs, the Bishop told the US delegation adding that the SL State should take more responsibility.
The Bishop was also explaining that Tamil Diaspora should be given independent access to assist the affected people. He was passing an implied message to the US delegation that the international community should at least come forward to allow the Diaspora Tamils to operate without going through Colombo-centric restrictions.
Bishop Gnanapragasam also facilitated a meeting in which Catholic nuns who were having first hand experience in working with Tamil war-widows explained the situation of the 80,000 war-widows to the visiting US delegation.
The US delegation also met the Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Justice C.V. Wigneswaran on Wednesday. The visiting US delegation was not fully aware of the plight of the Tamil women in North, the NPC CM told the press after his meeting with the US delegation.
Justice Wigneswaran explained in detail why the war-affected women in the Tamil homeland need special care and immediate attention before they are being treated on par with the others in the South. It was wrong to approach the Northern and Eastern provinces as they approach the other provinces, Mr Wigneswaran categorically told the visiting US delegation.
On reconciliation, Mr Wigneswaran explained to the visiting US delegation that Colombo should not insist on ‘reconciliation’ programme on its own terms alone. A real commitment should come from the ‘Central Government’ by jointly working with the provincial governments in North and East. First and foremost, it was critical to establish the truth to the Sinhalese on the nature of the conflict that has transpired throughout the past 67 years in the island, he said.
The US Ambassador in Colombo was proposing to facilitate a workshop between 20 Tamil women representatives in North with a similar group of women from South.
The Chief Minister told the press that he was hopeful that his interaction with the visiting US delegation would have helped the Americans to understand the special needs of the war affected people. They were also discussing projects such as Microcredit to war-affected women during the meeting, he said.
Justice Wigneswaran has earlier exposed the role played by certain UN officials in Colombo in applying red tape to the requests extended by the provincial council.
After the NPC CM had publicly released his interactions with the UN officials, the Tamils have started to scrutinize the conduct of the UN operatives in Colombo, who have a long history of colluding with the SL State in sidelining the democratic aspirations of Eezham Tamils.
