Colombo occupies 5,000 acres of Tamil land in Trincomalee

Colombo occupies 5,000 acres of Tamil land in Trincomalee

[TamilNet, Monday, 02 September 2013, 23:14 GMT]
Following a recent Gazette notification by Colombo's Minister of ‘Land and Land Development’, a large area of 4,857 acres of lands are being acquired ‘for use of the government’. The area consists of private and public lands located in 8 villages. Most of the lands being seized by the occupying SL State are private lands belonging to Tamils. Several centuries old historic Aathi Koanesvaram koayil is situated at Koayiladi in Thampalakaamam village.

Lands located in Tamil villages Thampalakaamam Pattu, Puthuk-kudiyiruppu, Potkea'ni, Paddi-meadu, Koayiladi, Kugnchan-thidal, Naayamaar-thidal, Naduppa'ran-thidal, and Mu'l'liyadith-thidal have been acquired according to gazette notification.

Thampalakaamam Divisional Secretary has issued instruction to his officials to make arrangements to physically acquire those lands.

The entire land have been surveyed on the direction of the SL Surveyor General into 199 lots as per survey plan number TR/T.M.P./103 dated 19/12/2012.

GA inefficient in Sinhala colonisation of Tamil land transferred

GA inefficient in Sinhala colonisation of Tamil land transferred

[TamilNet, Saturday, 13 July 2013, 03:14 GMT]
Colombo’s Government Agent (GA) in the Mannaar district of the Northern Province, Mr A.S. Sarath Ravindra, who is a Sinhalese, has been transferred with immediate effect for poor performance in the Sinhalicisation of the Tamil district, news sources in Mannaar said. Similar to Ma’nal-aa’ru in the Mullaith-theevu district that is now Sinhalicised into ‘Weli-oya’ division, grabbing a part of the North at its border, the genocidal State has been planning for a massive Sinhala colonisation at the Musali division of the Mannaar district too that borders the North Central and North Western Provinces. The new GA of the occupying State, Mr M.N. Desapriya, who is also a Sinhalese, assumed duties even before handover by his predecessor and has immediately conducted a meeting with the Bishop of Mannaar.

The transfer that has taken place after the announcement of the Provincial Council elections, raises questions on the other motives too, news sources in Mannaar said.

The Rajapaksa regime, internationally known for its electoral intimidations and manipulations but is always patted on its back by New Delhi and Washington, must have considered Mr. Ravindra unsuitable for the task, the news sources said.

Occupying Colombo’s new GA for Mannaar was serving as Education Secretary of the Southern Provincial Council.

Of all the provinces in the island, it is only the North that has five districts. All the other provinces have just two or three districts. The administrative partitioning is now intensely used for the Sinhalicisation of the Province, especially at its borders both in the southeast and southwest.

‘SL military appropriated 30% of land in Jaffna’

‘SL military appropriated 30% of land in Jaffna’

[TamilNet, Saturday, 17 December 2011, 01:40 GMT]
Sri Lankan military occupying the Tamil country had appropriated 30 per cent of the land in Jaffna district alone, under the so-called High Security Zones. What has been given back is only 3 per cent, contrary to what the SL Army wants outsiders to believe. The percentage of SL military appropriated lands still remain 30 per cent or even more with the new lands acquired in the islets off Jaffna, Maathakal and at Ki'laali, says a former senior academic of the University of Jaffna. Speaking to journalists in Jaffna on Friday, the former professor has also warned that the destructive and indiscriminate quarrying of limestone at Kaangkeasanthu'rai (KKS), which is under the High Security Zone, is going to make the groundwater in the peninsula to become saline.

The views of the academic follow:

So far, 30% of the land in the Jaffna district has been occupied by the Sri Lankan military, which demarcated the areas as ‘High Security Zone’ during the war.

Contrary to What the Sri Lankan government wants others to believe, only 3% of the land has been released back to the civilians.

But, at the same time, new lands are being encroached and occupied by the military in the islets of Ma'ndai-theevu, Kaarai-nakar and Oorkaavat-thu'rai (Kayts) for the expansion of SL military bases.

Recent news reports also raise alarm on SL military taking over new lands in Maathakal and in Ki'laali.

When we look at the pattern, while a small percentage of land is released to the civilians, land is appropriated elsewhere to maintain a status quo of keeping 30 per cent or more lands of the Jaffna district under the so-called HSZ-occupation programme.

Meanwhile, large-scale quarrying of limestone is reported in KKS area which still remains as a HSZ.

The quarrying is going to affect the potable water of the masses in the peninsula, he said.

The Jaffna Peninsula depends largely on the limestone bed for the preservation of rainwater into groundwater.

At the time of the initial opening of the KKS Cement Factory, there was a restriction to quarry only at a maximum depth of 2 feet. But, now the indiscriminate quarrying has reached the depth of two palmyra trees (120 - 160 feet), he said.

In addition to the ongoing quarrying, efforts are also under way on re-opening of the KKS cement factory. Occupying Sri Lanka's activities in the KKS High Security Zone take place with the active partnership with India.

Colombo pushes for 40,000 acres land grab for Sinhalese in Batticaloa

Colombo pushes for 40,000 acres land grab for Sinhalese in Batticaloa

[TamilNet, Sunday, 30 October 2011, 15:48 GMT]
More than 40,000 acres of fertile lands that are located in border villages that come under the DS division of Koa'ralaippattu North, Vavu'natheevu, Ea'raavoorpattu, Chengkaladi, Koa'ralaippattu South and Paddippazhai in the Batticaloa district belonging to Tamil speaking people are under alienation to Sinhalese without the permission of the District Land Alienation Committee, the District Government Agent and Divisional Secretary and is undermining the Provincial Land Ordinance, says Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) member R. Thurairatnam. The EPC has not taken any action against the illegal encroachments Mr. Thurairatnam says in a memorandum to the Chief Minister of the EPC, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan.

The EPC member has also sent a copy of the memorandum to SL Deputy Minister for Resettlement Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan.

Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan are leaders of two paramilitary groups operated by the Sri Lanka military in the East and are aligned with SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Thurairatnam asked the chief minister Chandrakanthan to take immediate steps to stop such encroachments. All three communities are living in the border villages of the district. But the Colombo government has been adopting a covert plan to settle illegally Sinhalese people from the South with the motive of Sinhalacising the Tamil villages, he added.

Sinhalese given lands in Tamil villages

in East under Mahaweli Scheme: TNA MP

[TamilNet, Monday, 17 October 2011, 18:49 GMT]
Thirty Sinhalese families have been allocated lands under the Mahaweli Development Land Distribution Scheme in a traditional Tamil village Oamadiyaamadu located in Koa'ralaippattu North DS division in Batticaloa district. This planned land grab in Batticaloa district is being carried out on the direction of Colombo government led by SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

To a plea not to allocate lands to Sinhalese in Tamil village, an official from the Sinhala community working in the province had replied that Tamils should vacate the village to give accommodation to Sinhalese.

Since 2007 the Eastern province had come under the control of the Government of Sri Lanka illegal resettlement of Sinhalese people from South has been taking place under the patronage of Sinhala officials on the direction of the Colombo government.

Tamils are being chased out from their historical lands and villages due to the planned illegal settlement policy.

The TNA MP has sent a memorandum to SL President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Immediate steps should be taken to stop settling Sinhalese in lands belonged to Tamils and to send back all Sinhalese people to South, Mr.Yogeswaran said in memorandum.

changing the name of West Bengal:
