Colombo deploys ‘military land-surveyors’ to seize more lands in Pulmoaddai

The occupying Sri Lankan military is seizing more lands in Pulmoaddai, a traditional Muslim village in the coast along the border of the Northern and Eastern provinces. In its latest move, the SL military has surveyed 60 acres of lands situated in front of an army camp at 14th Mile Post. Openly claiming that the lands are being taken over for the families of Sri Lankan soldiers under the so-called ‘Ranaviru Gammanaya’ project, the SL military has deployed its own surveyors without the knowledge of the Department of Civil Survey and the Divisional Secretary of the division, civil sources in Trincomalee told TamilNet.

The Muslims of Pulmoaddai have been protesting against the accelerated land appropriation taking place in their traditional village.

As the civil survey officials were being stopped by the protesting Muslims, Colombo has now deployed ‘military land surveyors’ to do the work, the sources further said.

The SL military has also deployed several heavy equipments to clear these lands earlier used by Muslim farmers who possess legal documents and permits as owners.

The occupying Colombo, intensely spearheading a Sinhala colonisation programme to wedge the North and East at several strategic locations in the north of Trincomalee district, has already appropriated several hundred acres of paddy lands of Muslims at Arisi-malai and Naaka-malai in Pulmoaddai under the “Buddha Pooja Boomi,” scheme to construct new Buddhist Viharas in Pulmoaddai village.

Colombo is also appropriating about five hundred acres of land in Chuvaami-malai area in the traditional Tamil village of Thennai-maravadi, located just north of Pulmoaddai.

Colombo schemes new ways to appropriate more lands for Sinhalicisation in Batticaloa

Thousands of acres of land in the Batticaloa district in the Eastern Province are likely to be appropriated under the Land Reform Laws of the occupying Sri Lankan State, according to informed civil sources in Batticaloa. The Colombo government is to appropriate lands that have been legally possessed by Tamils for the last fifty years under the one-acre permit scheme. Colombo and its Eastern Provincial Council are to formulate necessary legislation to appropriate lands above one-acre in 14 DS divisions in the Batticaloa district. More than one hundred acres of lands are to be appropriated under the Land Reform Laws of the Sinhala government.

Majority of residents possess one-acre permit only.

Apart from that, permits for lands had not been issued to majority of residents during the times of war in Poara-theevup-pattu, Paddip-pazhai, Vavu’natheevu, Koa’ra’laip-pattu South (Kiraan), Ea’raavoorpattu (Chengkaladi), Koa’ra’laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) divisions.

These lands are going to be appropriated for Sinhalicisation, civil sources said.

There was no evidence to show Sinhalese were living in Paduvaankarai area. But after the end of war in the eastern province in 2007, nearly thousand acres of lands belonging to Tamils in the area had been appropriated by the Sinhalese encroachers with the backing of the occupying Sri Lanka Army.

Those affected by the Land Reform Laws had placed their grievances before a workshop held in July in Batticaloa under the aegis of the National Peace Council.

The ‘objective’ of the workshop was to brief the ‘recommendations’ by the so-called Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

Prominent persons from all three communities, representatives of resettled persons and university lecturers had been invited to the NPC workshop.

When the affected people placed their grievances at the workshop, Batticaloa Mangalarama Viharathipathi Ambitiya Sumana Ratna Thera, who was present there, intervened. The organizers allowed him to speak and the Buddhist monk started shouting that lands were being given to Tamils and Muslims and not to Sinhalese.

The Buddhist monk also said that the workshop was being held with ‘wrong agenda’. Tension prevailed in the workshop following Thera’s speech. He later complained that he had been attacked when the organizers of workshop had asked him to stop his speech.

SL military provides lands to Sinhalese in North ahead of PC elections

More than five hundred Sinhala families from the border villages of the Northern Province are being settled down within the Northern Province by the occupying Sinhala Army, which systematically violates the Land Development Ordinance and the Election Law, civil sources in Vavuniyaa said. One thousand and five hundred members of these families would be entitled to vote in the forthcoming election to the Northern Provincial Council that is scheduled to be held in September, media sources said.

The Sinhala families below the poverty line are selected from Padaviya, Parakramapura and Horowopottana areas are being settled down in the Northern Province.

Each Sinhala family is provided with two acres of land.

The Sinha (Lion) Regiment of the occupying Sri Lanka Army has undertaken the provision of basic amenities and materials for the construction of houses, the sources added.

Tamil farmers lose title-deed lands to Sinhala colonisers in Mullaiththeevu

The occupying Sri Lankan military has appropriated more than one hundred acres of paddy lands owned by Tamil farmers at Koozhaa-mu’rippu in Vedi-vaiththa-kal area of Nedungkea’ni DS division in the Mullaiththeevu district for Sinhalese being brought from the South by the Colombo government.

Vedi-vaiththa-kall is traditionally a Tamil agricultural village.

The Tamil farmers had been doing paddy cultivation till they were uprooted from the village.

They possess title deeds for about sixty acres and land development department permits for about forty acres.

Earlier, irrigation facilities had been provided to these lands from Koozhaa-mu'rippuk-ku'lam.

But, after the occupation of the country of Eezham Tamils, the ‘development’ promised by Colombo didn't reach them.

Even after their resettlement, they were not in the position of cultivating their lands due to the breach in the dam of the tank.

The Tamil farmers, who went to the their paddy fields last week to do preparation for the coming season saw Sinhalese persons from the south repairing the breached dam and clearing the paddy fields of Tamils for cultivation.

Vanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Mr.Sivaskathi Aanandan told media that Tamil farmers have approached their elected representatives and SL authorities concerned to allow them to do cultivation in their lands and to take action against those who have encroached.

Uprooted Tamils ordered to leave their lands in Mannaar

Mannaar Divisional Secretary D.Dayananda has ordered all uprooted Tamil residents residing in the public lands at Ezhil Nakar to dismantle their temporary sheds and boundary fences and vacate from the land within one week's time. The eviction order has been issued by the Divisional Secretary to settle down about 600 Sinhalese from the South, civil sources said.

Mannaar DS has threatened the Tamil occupants that he would file action in the Sri Lankan law courts if they failed to carry out his instruction.

The latest move by the divisional secretary comes while Sri Lanka's Government Agent to Mannaar District has been scheming a Sinhala colony at Saanthipuram and South bar in Mannar district, the civil sources further said.

Occupying SL military allowed to appropriate lands in Trincomalee

The occupying Sri Lanka Army has been given permission to appropriate about four hundred acres of land in Trincomalee district. A decision to this effect was reached at a conference held this week at the District Secretariat. The conference was presided by the Government Agent T.T.R.De Silva, a retired Major General of the Sri Lanka Army.

About three hundred acres including some private lands earmarked for the appropriation are located in the Trincomalee Town and Gravets Divisional Secretariat division.

The conference was specially held with the participation of several heads of SL military and Land Appropriation Committee based in Colombo to decide on the extent of lands to be appropriated.

Fifty acres of lands in Thiriyaay, a Tamil village and about fifty acres in Pulmoaddai, a Muslim village, are also to be appropriated for the use of the occupying Sri Lanka Navy in these villages.

Colombo appropriates lands of 400 Tamil families in Vavuniyaa

The Colombo government has begun to appropriate 400 acres of lands belonging to Tamils in Veerapuram in Vavuniyaa Cheddiku'lam division to settle down Sinhalese, according to Vanni district Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Sivasakthi Aanandan. In a similar move, at Nochchikku'lam GS division, private lands of Eezham Tamils have been appropriated for the purpose of 56th brigade headquarters for the occupying Sri Lanka Army, news sources in Vavuniyaa said.

Sinhala settlers now residing in Ulukku'lam village on the border of the Vavuniyaa district are to be settled down in Veerapuram, the TNA MP added.

400 Tamil families were settled down under a housing project in Veerapuram in 1995. Each family was allocated one acre.

Already, the occupying Sri Lanka Army has begun to appropriate twenty acres of private lands belonging to Tamils to construct the 56th brigade headquarters in Vavuniyaa.
