Poonakari becomes another major hub of Sinhala militarisation, colonisation

Poonakari becomes another major hub of Sinhala militarisation, colonisation

[TamilNet, Friday, 08 February 2013, 07:50 GMT]
Similar to the so-called High Security Zone (HSZ) on the northern coast of Jaffna Peninsula, including KKS harbour and Palaali airport that has now become a permanent enclave for Sinhala military cantonment, colonisation and corporatism, another enclave in the Poonakari division is in the making, news sources in Vanni said. Around 31,000 Sinhala military personnel are stationed in the Poonakari division where currently only 6216 families live, which means that for every Tamil family there are 5 personnel from the genocidal military. While the SL military alone occupies 800 acres of land, the Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s siblings Basil and Gotabhaya, and progeny Namal have appropriated many more acres of land. Building a Chinese assisted international airport at Poonakari is in the centre of the plans.

The Eezham Tamil legacy of Poo-nakari (meaning the town of flowers) and the region around it is of much antiquity going back to the times of proto-history and Tamil Brahmi inscriptions.

The strategic location of Poonakari at the entrance to the Jaffna Peninsula, Jaffna Lagoon, and its location facing the Palk Bay and the opposite coast have made all the European colonial powers –the Portuguese, Dutch and the English to maintain a station there.

But unlike the Sinhala colonial military of today, the European colonial powers didn’t commit a demographic genocide, as they didn’t have the human resource for it.

Two brigades (means 20,000 soldiers) plus 11 divisions (11,000 soldiers) of the genocidal Sinhala military are now stationed in Poonakari and villages around it, such as Pa’l’lik-kudaa, Pallava-raayan-kaddu, Mud-kompan, Ponnaa-ve’li, Arasa-puram, Muzhangkaa-vil, Madduvil-naadu and 4th mile-post.
SL occupation of Poonakari

Needless to say that the SL military idea is to permanently seal off and choke Jaffna Peninsula as well as Jaffna city, besides checking the Tamil Nadu coast and the Palk Bay.

Colombo and abetting powers have larger plans behind the militarisation.

Under several names the Rajapaksa family is now appropriating large tracts of lands, especially coconut plantations in the region, with plans for new Sinhala colonial urbanisation in the region, sources in Vanni said.

A plan to build an international airport at Poonakari with Chinese assistance has already been announced.

Even the 6000 odd Tamil families who have been allowed to resettle in the Poonakari division are put to all kinds of abuses by the occupying Sinhala military, so that the families would either become Sinhalicized slaves or would leave.

The idea of Rajapaksa regime and the abetting powers is to create new militarised and Sinhalicised cities, corporate enclaves and townships in the whole of the conquered country of Eezham Tamils.

The causeway over the Jaffna Lagoon built by the British government close to Poonakari on the A32 highway doesn’t help the ‘development’ of Tamils but helps only the development of the military, colonisers and corporatism of the genocidal regime, local people of Poonakari said.

The British government never said anything against the misuse of its assistance or against the on-going genocide or colonisation.

On the contrary, the British minister of state from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who visited Vanni a few days ago went to see another project of the SL military at Mullaith-theevu.

Keappaa-pulavu in Mullaiththeevu is on the eastern coast where the genocidal military is planning another enclave similar to Jaffna HSZ and Poonakari.

“The entire genocide and structural genocide committed on us, the colonisation, militarisation and annihilation of our country are actually designed and carried out by certain powers and that is why they don’t recognize the genocide committed on us, our nationhood and the on-going colonisation that is annihilating our country. The genocidal Sinhala military is the new Lascarin military of theirs. The Sinhala people will eventually understand who were the real freedom fighters and who were the Lascarins,” commented a Tamil schoolteacher in Vanni.

“No wonder the Rajapaksa regime confidently proclaims to the world that the presence of the military is being reduced, while in fact it is stabilised, and there is always the International Community of Establishments to acknowledge the ‘progress’ the regime is making. But then, we also have their cronies among us who don’t want to tell the world that the occupying military should quit,” commented a journalist in Jaffna.

Sinhala colonisation in sacred land of Tamil martyrs

Sinhala colonisation in sacred land of Tamil martyrs

[TamilNet, Thursday, 31 January 2013, 01:01 GMT]
Puthu-maaththa’lan, a part of the Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal sacred land of the Eezham Tamil martyrs, was subjected to Sinhala colonization this week with the protection of the Sinhala military occupying the land, news sources in Vanni said. The resettled Tamil fishermen at Ira’naip-paalai and Puthu-maththa’lan resisted the arrival and colonisation of their coast by Sinhala fishermen from the South on Tuesday. The Sinhala fishermen, keeping their equipment for safe custody with the SL military, vowed that they would come back and colonize the land during the scheduled visit of Mahinda Rajapaksa to Mullaith-theevu on Sunday. But they didn’t go back. The Sinhalese were hiding in the SL military camp, and on Wednesday when the Tamil fishermen returned from the sea, to their surprise they found their coastal stretch was colonised by the Sinhalese.

The original Tamil inhabitants of Ira’naip-paalai, who went into the barbed-wire detention camps after the war, were allowed to resettle only after one and a half years. Around 436 families resettled.

More than 75 per cent of the inhabitants of this village are fisher folk. But the coastline belonging to them at Puthu-maaththa’lan, roughly 3 km away, was allowed for fishing only three months back.

In the mean time, around 20 Sinhala fishermen families arrived at the scene on Tuesday. Some of them were claiming that they used to have their fishing camps there decades ago, before the 1983 pogrom.

The colonizing Sinhalese started intimidating the local fishermen and destroyed their sheds at the shore. When the situation became tense, officials arrived at the scene started luring the local Tamil fishermen, saying that both could jointly carry out fishing and the Tamil fishermen will have the benefit of using the boats of the Sinhala fishermen.

The colonizing Sinhala fishermen came prepared with deep-sea fishing craft. The war- affected Tamils have lost all their fishing boats and now they restart their profession only with catamarans.

The protesting Tamil fishermen pointed out that how a similar colonisation started at Kokku’laay, some kilometres south, has now become a major Sinhala colony depriving local Tamils of their land, sea and livelihood.

The Sinhala colonisation at Kokku’laay, a demographically strategic location for the contiguity of Northern and Eastern Provinces, started with 30 Sinhala families. But now there are over 300 Sinhala families.

Tuesday noon to evening witnessed a scene of arguments at the Puthu-maaththa’lan beach, where the occupying Sinhala military took position to safeguard the colonising Sinhalese.

At the end of the day, keeping their equipment at the SL military camp, the Sinhala fishermen intimidated the Tamils saying that they would return with ‘permission’ when Rajapaksa visits Mullaith-theevu on 03 February.

But, on Tuesday night the colonising Sinhala fishermen were hiding in the SL military camp.

On Wednesday morning, when the Tamil fishermen had gone for fishing, a fully armed Sinhala military contingent commanded by a Major, ‘settled’ the Sinhala fishermen families at Puthu-maaththa’lan and was giving full protection to them.

The local fishermen returning from the sea protested, but they were chased away by the occupying Sinhala military.

In the distant past, the Tamil fishermen were not bothering much of the arrival and camping of Sinhala fishermen from the South. But now they come with a military-abetted agenda of permanent colonisation and structural genocide. While most of the potential coastline is occupied by the SL military the colonizing Sinhala fishermen occupy even the remaining patches. The Tamil fishermen who just now limp back to their profession are systematically ruined, commented gagged Tamil officials in the district serving the Colombo regime.

Simulated Buddhists, Sinhala-Buddhist schools to accelerate colonisation, genocide

Simulated Buddhists, Sinhala-Buddhist schools to accelerate colonisation, genocide

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 19 December 2012, 05:19 GMT]
Following the construction of Buddhist stupas with the deployment of ‘Army and Archaeology’ where there were no practising Buddhists at all, the genocidal Sri Lankan state occupying the country of Eezham Tamils is now bent upon creating a Buddhist population in the North by the conversions and simulations of a ‘Tamil Buddhist’ community and by the construction of Sinhala-Buddhist schools to attract and facilitate a colonising community from the South. Already achieving the demographic genocide in the East and in the Northwest over the last several decades, the idea of the Sinhala-Buddhist state now is to fully use the ‘once in a millennium opportunity’ provided by militarisation and ICE-abetment, to irrevocably complete the annihilation of the territoriality of the nation of Eezham Tamils, as envisaged by the LLRC blueprint.

Colombo has now engaged a person, Mr. SL Ramachandran, a native of Vara’ni in Jaffna and Mr. Ravikumar a trader in Jaffna to organize a ‘Tamil-Buddhist’ community in Jaffna. They are fully backed by the occupying military and the Sinhala-Buddhist priests deployed in the North.

About Mr. Ramachandran, who displays photos of him taken with Mahinda Rajapaksa, there are claims that Colombo would be giving him an important political position in the North soon. He was one of Hathurusinghe’s ‘civil society’ member invited to discuss the Jaffna University situation with the Vice Chancellor and Deans of the university, at the Palaali base of the occupying military earlier this month.

Last year he opened a ‘Hindu-Buddhist Cultural Association’ at Kantharmadam, a locality close to the Nalloor temple, university campus and the Indian consulate in Jaffna city. The commander of the occupying Sinhala military, Maj. Gen Hathurusinghe and some people associated with the Jaffna University as well, attended the event.

The organisation is now opening ‘Tamil-Buddhist’ schools in Jaffna. Sinhala is taught in these schools. The occupying military has helped in appropriating lands for the schools.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s Colombo was trying the Buddhist strategy in some pockets such as Vaathara-vaththai, Raja-kiraamam, Vallipurak-ku’richchi etc., where oppressed sections of Tamils were living. An entire school of converted students were made to write public exams in the Sinhala medium at Vaathara-vaththai in Puththoor in the early 1980s. The rise of Tamil militancy stopped such exploitations.

Colombo is now reviving the project in an enhanced and accelerated way in Jaffna and Vanni.

In Vanni, while hundreds of Tamil schools affected by the war are yet to be renovated and start functioning again, a major part of the money allotted for school constructions by Colombo goes to new Sinhala-Buddhist schools in the recently colonized villages, media reports in Jaffna said.

Out of the 400 million allotted for the construction or renovation of schools in the North in November, 193 million went to 29 Sinhala-Buddhist schools in the recent colonies, 115 million went to 12 Muslim schools, while only a single Tamil school selected has received 11 million and a Roman Catholic school has got 5 million, said Uthayan Daily, citing TNA parliamentarian Shivasakthi Ananthan.

The decision was taken at the orders of the colonial governor of Colombo in the North, Maj. Gen. Chandrasri.

Out of the 29 Sinhala schools, 22 are in Vavuniyaa district and 7 are in the Mullaiththeevu district.

One such Sinhala School that received 45 lakhs has only 3 students, Uthayan said.

The other Sinhala-Buddhist schools included one located at the former Tamil village Kokkachchaan Ku’lam, now Sinhalicised as Kalabogas wewa, one at an ancient Tamil village Ariya-ku’ndaan-choalai now Sinhalicised as Æthawættu Wewa, and the Sinhala schools at Kalyani-pura and Paranagama in the newly carved out Sinhala division Wæli-oya in the Mullaiththeevu district.

All the newly created Sinhala schools in the Mullaiththeevu district are going to be affiliated in their educational administration with the newly created Sinhala division, news sources speculate.

TamilNet has also received documentary evidence from education department sources on the Sinhala-Buddhicisation of education in the North.

The whole project is to attract and facilitate Sinhala-Buddhist colonisation from the South, create a superiority aura for the Sinhala schools and lure even Tamil students to drop their language and to study in the Sinhala schools. All these strategies were earlier deployed in the East for the demographic genocide.

The latter two had been practised in the West and Northwest provinces over a century in Sinhalicising the Tamil coastal communities and in luring the Tamil-speaking Muslims to drop their language in the other southern provinces.

A symbolic practice imposed by the occupying military to imbibe a superior image in the minds of Tamil school children about a Sinhala military official is that no school function could take place in Vanni without inviting and garlanding an official of the occupying military. Garlanding is particularly insisted.

Sinhala tutories (tuition centres) are now mushrooming in Jaffna as the tutory culture is perceived as an effective tool in accelerating the Sinhalicisation process and in erasing memories.

A Sinhala-Buddhist monk from the South volunteering to teach Sinhala at Jaffna Hindu College has to be meekly received. But, whether a Tamil pundit will be accommodated with the same aura at Ananda College in Colombo is the question.
Buddhicisation in Jaffna

Permanent settlement of more than 80 per cent of the genocidal state’s military, an exclusive Sinhala military in the post-genocidal-war North; economic, political and administrative control vested with this military; colonisation from the south backed by this military; construction of Buddhist temples and Sinhala-Buddhist schools in a land where there are no practising Buddhists at all; oppression of Tamil students and abuse of Tamil women; status of native people as subjugated subordinates; efforts to erase memory from the younger generation and vilification of the diaspora to prevent it from coming to help — the genocidal agenda of the Sri Lankan state is too explicit.

The modus operandi is also too explicit to understand that without the recognition of the sovereignty of the affected nation and its right to self-determination, the genocide could never be stopped.

Only those who are in complicity with the genocide, and want to see the annihilation of Eezham Tamils as a nation of its own territory in the island, could have the audacity to ask the Tamils to prove the genocide.

The Colombo-centric state has nearly 500 years of experience in practising colonialism and agent-colonialism. Eezham Tamils who have never seen even the so-called independence from the European colonialism now face the full brunt of the ‘expertise’ of Colombo, inherited from the Portuguese, the Dutch and the English.

Even the Portuguese, the Dutch or the English, despite the destruction of temples and introduction of the Churches, never annihilated the nation of Eezham Tamils and its territoriality. But now, a full-fledged genocide is taking place for the first time in the entire history of Eezham Tamils in the island.
Buddhicisation in Jaffna

Historically Buddhism was not alien to Tamils or to Tamil language.

The Tamil language has the rare distinction among all the South Asian languages in serving as a medium for various religions and shades of philosophies that originated in South Asia as well as came from outside in the last 2,500 years. They range from primitive religions including the substratum of today’s Hinduism to Jainism, Buddhism, Brahmanical religions, Islam, Christianity, folk religions and even Atheism.

Sanskrit and Prakrit were dead to Islam and Christianity and Sinhala could not go beyond Buddhism and Christianity.

If the Tamils, including the Eezham Tamils, have dropped Buddhism at a historical stage, it was their choice.

In fact it was the lower echelons of the society, the hunters, cattle-herders, potters, washers and the so-called untouchables, who were the first among the Tamils to rise up through a Tamil devotional movement, against Buddhism and Jainism that was enjoying royal and mercantile patronage.

If Buddhism is a necessity today, Tamils may embrace it by conviction as we see with sections of Dalit in Tamil Nadu.

If temples and mosques of the Tamil-speaking people are found in the south of the island, they have come after non-violent settlement of the people following the faiths, and they don’t engage in changing religious or language identity of others.

But the Sinhala Buddhism first brings in the military, commits a genocidal war of indelible memory, builds temples and schools where there are no followers and then try to bring in a demographic change of genocidal intent in the country of Eezham Tamils.

Islam, known to Tamils from its very inception was largely peaceful in coming to them. Christianity, especially in Tamil Nadu, was largely people-friendly despite the colonialism and was immensely contributory to modern Tamil identity and culture.

But for the first time in the long history of Tamil civilization, the Sinhala-Buddhism of Sri Lankan State thinks of challenging the Tamil self-respect by imposing a religion and language through genocide.

The Saivism of the Tamil devotional strand, Islam or Christianity practised today by Eezham Tamils have their own memories embedded in the medium of Tamil language, and the basic of all religious memory is ultimately human self-respect.

“One who doesn't have self-respect has no religion at all,” writes Tamil poet Bharathy citing from The Koran.
Buddhicisation in Jaffna

Sinhala-Buddhism wouldn’t have dared to embark on this genocidal mission, which is also suicidal for its own self-respect, had there not been abetment and complicity in the project from the outside, especially from the Establishments in India and the West.

From Romila Thapar, known for her inclination with the Congress regimes and who chose to preach on Buddhism at Colombo immediately after the genocidal war, to Shusma Swaraj’s BJP that chose to invite Mahinda Rajapaksa to inaugurate a Buddhist University, have indirectly or directly made appeasement with the Buddhism of the genocidal State.

Norwegian funding circles not only supported an NGO of the ultra Sinhala-Buddhist party, Jathika Hela Urumaya in the island that carries out many of the Sinhala-Buddhist projects in the country of Eezham Tamils, but also tried to persuade diaspora Eezham Tamils to work under it.

News sources in Jaffna say that funds for the Buddhist activities of genocidal nature in Jaffna now come from certain European connections, especially from Switzerland.

Those who deliberately failed to recognize or stop the genocide and the on-going genocide, but jumped at seeing ‘terrorism’, ultimately bear the responsibility and continue to bear the responsibility for the worst-ever genocide humanity has seen in recent times.

The UN officials who were at the service of the powers and Establishments are only small fry in getting indicted for the genocide.

Colombo accelerates Sinhala colonisation of coastal Vanni

Colombo accelerates Sinhala colonisation of coastal Vanni

[TamilNet, Friday, 23 March 2012, 15:08 GMT]
SL President's son and Hambantota district parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has stepped up Sinhala occupation of coastal villages of Mullaiththeevu and Ma'nal Aa'ru (Weli Oya) districts of Vanni mainland this week, civil sources in Mullaiththeevu told TamilNet. Hundreds of Sinhala fishermen were brought from South on Wednesday morning in 20 lorries with their boats and fishing equipments to Chemmalai, a coastal village of Mullaiththeevu district. Local Tamil fishermen who objected the move were assaulted by the occupying Sri Lanka Army and chased away. The SL military officials told Tamils that the fishermen from South had obtained 8-month pass to settle in Chemmalai for fishing. In the meantime Tamil families that resettled in Kokku'laay after 23 years have come under assault by SL military and Sinhalese settlers.

Already 30 Sinhalese had encroached the coastal belt of Naayaa'ru and Chemmalai East, where 25 Tamil families are entirely dependent on fishing. Namal Rajapaksa has appointed his agents to run the fisheries societies, which provide necessary permits to the encroachers, the civil officials further said.

50 Sinhalese encroachers from Karukup-panai had applied for fishing rights in Chemmalai area on Sunday. The fisheries society, which was already hijacked by Rajapaksa administration, allowed 30 Sinhalese fishermen to settle in Chemmalai, amid protests by the local fishermen.

Under these circumstances, a new convoy of 20 lorries with hundreds of Sinhalese fishermen arrived on Wednesday to the same area.

The arrival of a large number of fishermen from South has seriously affected the livelihood of the 25 Tamil families that have not received any meaningful assistance in resettlement.

Sri Lankan military on Wednesday attacked the Tamil driver and conductor of the only mini-bus transporting mostly Tamil passengers between Mullaiththeevu and Kokku'laay. The SL soldiers attacked them when their bus met with a minor accident with a Canter vehicle belonging to a Sinhalese person from South around 2:30 p.m. The accident occurred at Naayaa'ru bridge when the Canter vehicle was refusing to provide space for the mini-bus. SL military personnel in the nearby post and soldiers coming back from vacation began attacking the Tamil driver and the conductor.

The 24-year-old driver, A. Tharusan, and the 27-year-old conductor, A. Sumiththiran, were admitted to Mullaiththevu hospital with injuries.

Tamil villagers took to the streets protesting against the attack on the only bus allowed to operate between Mullaiththeevu town and Kokku'laay.

Attacks on Tamils have increased in recent weeks in the area, according to Tamil villagers in Kokku'laay.

Strategic Batticaloa borderland appropriated for colonisation

Strategic Batticaloa borderland appropriated for colonisation

[TamilNet, Sunday, 04 December 2011, 22:44 GMT]
2,500 acres of lands in Mangka'la Aaru, located along Chengkaladi-Badulla A-5 road, a border village of Batticaloa district, are to be sold to Sinhala businessmen and to foreign investors, informed sources in Paduvaankarai told TamilNet. SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Colombo government has recently taken steps to survey the lands through its deputy minister and paramilitary operative Vinyagamoorthy Muralitharan. A team of SL government officials from Colombo are on the ground conducting surveying and demarcating the lands in question for the last one week, the villagers said.

The strategic location of Mangka'la Aa'ru has been given a new name, “Mangala-gama”, by the occupying SL military the villagers told TamilNet.

Earlier, before the Paduvaankarai area fell, Jeyanthan Brigade of the LTTE had a military base in the lands that are now being appropriated by the SL state in Mangka'la Aa'ru.

Meanwhile, pasture lands in Thevulaa'la Ku'lam in Paddippazhai DS division are encroached by Sinhalese, the villagers complain.

These encroachers frequently fire at cattle left in these lands. Encroachers are also stealing the cattle, according to Tamil dairy farmers.
