Tamil hamlet Sinhalicised in Vavuniyaa

Tamil hamlet Sinhalicised in Vavuniyaa: Sivasakthi Ananthan

[TamilNet, Friday, 13 September 2013, 05:48 GMT]
The colonial governor of North, Major General (retd) G.A. Chandrasri, together with a SL military officer in Vavuniyaa and a Buddhist monk, has appropriated the lands of ancient Tamil village, I’rampai-veddik-ku’lam in Vavuniyaa and carved out a Sinhala colony with a Sinhala name ‘Agbo-pura’. The ceremonious declaration of Agbopura has taken place on August 30, Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian from Vavuniyaa Sivasakthi Ananthan told media on Thursday.

The SL colonial governor has distributed the lands to 80 Sinhala families from Vavuniyaa district in the appropriated lands.

225 more Sinhala families are to be brought and settled in the new colony as part of the ongoing demographic change in the Vavuniyaa district, the parliamentarian further said.

Tamil villagers from the nearby villages have been using the lands for their livelihood and the ancient Tamil hamlet was the home for displaced Tamils who were chased away from their houses in South during the 1977 pogrom against Tamils.

The village has now been entirely Sinhalicised by Colombo’s occupying SL military, Buddhist monk and the colonial governor.

Mr Sivasakthi Ananthan also blamed the SL Governor for violating the rules that there should be no land distribution from the government during the election campaign.

A feature to be noted here by the civilised world is the Sinhalicisation of a nature-related Tamil place name into an ethno-nationalist Sinhala name, social activists in Vanni said.

I'rampai-vedduk-ku'lam means the tank where I'rampai leaves used in curry are cut. The name was based on human-environment relationship of the Tamils who have been living there for ages. Agbo-pura means the town of Agbo, a Sinhala Buddhist king of the distant past.

Mannaar district Sinhalicised

Border division of Mannaar district Sinhalicised

[TamilNet, Monday, 12 August 2013, 19:35 GMT]
After Sinhalicising a border division in the Mullaiththeevu district of the Northern Province as ‘Weli-Oya’ on the eastern coast, genocidal Sri Lanka is now engaged in the Sinhalicisation of a border division, Musali, in the Mannaar district of the Northern Province on the western coast, news sources in Mannaar said. Both the Sinhala colonisations take place as demographic projections from the Anuradhapura district of the North Central Province. Around 400 acres of forest has been cleared for settling 1300 Sinhala families at the Ko’ndaichchi coast of Mannaar district. The families, who have nothing to do with the district are not only brought down hurriedly and settled as ‘re-settlers’, but also are advised to register as voters before the NPC elections.

New Delhi and Washington talking about the NPC elections without recognising and guaranteeing the territoriality and demography of Eezham Tamils, amounts to nothing but blatant complicity in the demographic genocide as continuity of their complicity in the genocidal war, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

The divisional secretary of Musali, Mr. Ketheesvaran, who was protesting to the ‘resettlement’ hoax and registration of the colonisers as voters, was served with a transfer order, news sources in Mannaar said.

Even the earlier divisional secretary Mr. Raveendran was transferred as he had objections to the colonisation in the name of ‘special resettlement’.

The Sinhala Government Agent of Mannaar, Mr Y.S. Desapriya denied the accusations.

This is a normal ‘resettlement’ he claimed, denying the transfer order to the divisional secretary and the reports that the Sinhala colonisers were brought by buses from Anuradhapura.

The SL Government Agent was newly posted after his predecessor had been removed for not adequately cooperating with Colombo in the Sinhala colonisation programmes.

Sources associated with mosques and churches in the region confirmed the arrival of Sinhala colonisers from Anuradhapura district.

According to news sources, under the SL government project called ‘special resettlement programme’ the Sinhala colonisers were brought from Maavilaachchi and Nochchiyaa-gama parts of the Anuradhapura district to Ko’ndaichchi and Kokkup-padaiyaan coast of the Mannaar district.

Around a 4 Sq.km settlement has been created for them. The Sinhala families are provided with half an acre of land to each and are promised of permanent houses for them soon.

The families were neither affected by the war nor were displaced people. Hence they could not be treated as ‘re-settlers’ and could not be permitted, was the stand of the divisional secretary.

The Musali divisional secretary has also pointed out that the colonisers for whom voter registration in the division is demanded are still registered voters in Anuradhapura district and their registration there has not been cancelled, which is a prerequisite for new registrations.

While on one hand the so-called ‘international aided’ resettlement of war-affected people is abused for demographic genocide by such colonisations, on the other hand, a fraud is committed by bringing in outside voters to the NPC elections for which the 2012 registration is the basis, observers in the Northern Province commented.

The area selected for the Sinhala colonisation is the coast of a fertile bay, which was once the centre for pearl diving traditionally conducted since time immemorial by Eezham Tamil coastal folk called Paravar and Mukkuvar.

Meanwhile, 2500 Tamil-speaking Muslim families who were displaced during the war have also now returned to Musali as 6000 families.

They also complain that the 5-acre per family settlement plan of theirs is also misused for Sinhala colonisation.

While SL minister Risard Badurdeen appropriates Tamil lands for the colonisation of Tamil-speaking Muslims, his government is engaged in colonising Sinhalese brought from Anuradhapura, observers in the district said.

Thirukkoayil land Sinhalicised through diaspora transaction

Thirukkoayil land Sinhalicised through diaspora transaction

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 07 August 2013, 23:52 GMT]
35 acres of land, known as Muththiah land, is being taken away from the Tamil owners living at the coastal land, news sources in Ampaa'rai said. Around 150 fishermen living in huts are being forced to vacate their lands after Muththiah land is projected as being ‘sold’ to a Sinhalese residing in London. The Sinhalese who purchased the land is engaged in fencing and asking the Tamil fisher families to get out of that land.

The original land owners had gone abroad and settled down in Australia in 1978.

Later, the land was legally distributed to landless Tamil people by the initiative of former parliamentarian and human rights activist, the late Ariyanayagam Chandra Nehru.

Some of the inhabitants of the land were killed in the Tsunami disaster in 2004. Their legal documents were also destroyed in the destruction.

The former TNA parliamentarian was assassinated by the SL military in 2005.

Thereafter, the power of attorney was given to a person, who was working in the State Cadju Corporation. He was supposed to give employment to the Tamil settlers who were encouraged to do cadju cultivation.

But, now the lands have been sold to a Sinhalese living in London, news sources in Ampaa'rai said.

Sinhalicised division formalised in Mullaiththeevu district

[TamilNet, Sunday, 21 October 2012, 22:41 GMT]
A newly created division, Sinhalicised in demograhpy and acquired a name ‘Weli Oya’ changed from the Tamil name Ma'nal-aa'ru, has been formalised with a divisional secretariat of the civil administrative structure of occupying Sri Lanka in the Mullaith-theevu district of the country of Eezham Tamils. This is an explicit move of colonisation and structural genocide aiming for the annihilation of the territoriality of the nation of Eezham Tamils in the island for the edification of those who ask for evidence, commented civil society activists in Vanni. Why should the Tamils have territoriality in the island is a question raised by the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime that opts genocide as means and argues that anyone could settle anywhere in the island, under the blessings of the powers that insist on treating the island as one unit whether there is genocide or not, said civil society activists.

The ‘engagement’ of the nation of Eezham Tamils and their natural allies with India and the International Community of Establishments depends very much on the answer that comes from the abettors, who talk of ‘reconciliation’ with Colombo's genocide and the ongoing model of structural genocide, commented the civil society activists in the island.

If the Colombo's model is going to be the universally envisaged model of the ICE and India, then the Eezham Tamils have no option other than waging a direct struggle, in the name of humanity, against the entire coterie, the activists said.

The entire world should know that the Global Order hijacked by India and the USA in the name of the ICE, is mischievously faltering in this instance, by setting an example of levying the price from the affected nation of people rather than making the state that had committed and continues committing genocide to pay the price. Anyone who care for the larger perspective of humanity should be prepared to come forward for the larger internationalised struggle, the activists further said.

Dr. Alan Keenan of the International Crisis Group (ICG) that is perceived to be working for the agenda of the International Community of Establishments (ICE), recently said that someone has to document and legally prove the claim of genocide and the ongoing genocide in the island.

The Colombo government has issued a new map of Mullaiththeevu district on September 25, when SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended a ‘special’ District Development Council (DDC) meeting of Ki'linochchi and Mullaiththeevu districts in Ki'linochchi.

The new map has a fifth division, Weli Oya, with 19 Sinhalicised villages, is divided into 9 GS divisions.

The territory under concern which is constituently a part of Mullaiththeevu district and Northern Province administratively transferred to the Sinhala district of Anuradhapura in the North Central Province during the war and has been now returned to the administration of Mullaiththeevu district after Sinhalacising it in every respect.

Almost all of the 11,789 people belonging to 3,536 families in the ‘Weli Oya’ division are Sinhala settlers.

3500 acres of land in the Mullaiththeevu district has been confiscated for the creation of the new Sinhala division.

This is in line with creating a Sinhala division in the Vavuniyaa district a few decades ago.

If the island belongs to everyone, why the Sri Lankan state has not created Tamil and Muslim divisions in the rest of the provinces, especially in the North Central, North Western, Western, Southern and in the Central provinces, is the question asked by those who challenge the Rajapaksa regime's ideology of state in the island.

The new division in the Mullaiththeevu district with a toponym ‘Welioya,’ renaming the Tamil Ma’nal-aa’ru, will permanently wedge the demographic contiguity of the northern and eastern provinces of the country of Eezham Tamils occupied by Sri Lanka’s military.
