Occupying Colombo resumes arrests, abductions in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Thursday, 14 April 2016, 20:02 GMT]
32-year-old Jeyakanthan Rajadurai, a former LTTE member released from the custody of the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka earlier, was abducted at gun point by unknown persons, who came to his residence at Nu'naavil in Chaavakachcheari on Sunday, according to a complaint lodged at the Human Rights Commission office in Jaffna. The abducted man is now detained at Boosa prison, about 98 km south of Colombo, informed sources told TamilNet. There are at least 11 abduction-styled arrests that have taken place in Jaffna and Ki'linochchi districts in the recent days, the sources further said.

The armed men who came came to the residence of Mr Jeyakanthan were claiming that they were from the Sri Lankan ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) and left behind a phone number.

However, when the family called the phone number, they were asked to come to a location which seemed to be an abandoned house. The place didn't look like a police station, the family had noted in the complaint.

At Ki'linochchi, another ex-LTTE member, Vijayakumar Ketheeswaran, released in November 2015 after the ‘regime change’, was kidnapped from his house on Thursday last week by the SL ‘Terrorist’ Division, which demanded his surety to surrender to the SL police. The TID men were also harassing the women in the family, news sources in Ki'linochchi told TamilNet. The family also complained that they were receiving threatening phone calls prior to the kidnapping.

The civil society and rights activists, who were earlier voicing against the abductions and extra-judicial arrests under Rajapaksa regime, are now very silent as if no abductions were taking place.

The SL military and police are indirectly justifying the abductions, kidnappings and arrests as actions after the recent seizure of explosives at Ma'ravanpulavu village in Thenmaraadchi, Jaffna.
