Tension prevails as SLA terrorizes Tamils confronting Sinhala thugs in Vanni

Scores of Tamils, including women and children, were injured and terrorized by the occupying Sinhala army at Ira'naimadu junction in Ki'linochchi on Tuesday night between 8:00 and 10:30 p.m., following 4 Sinhala thugs were confronted by the local people. Four Sinhala men from South who came to a Tamil shop at Ira'naimadu junction on Tuesday night threatened the shopkeeper and attacked him. When the people of the locality retaliated, the Sinhala men escaped into an SL military camp. Around 30 Sinhala soldiers who came in support of the thugs indiscriminately attacked the people of the locality and all people passing by the junction. The attack continued for nearly two hours.

The SL police that came later chose to arrest some Tamil villagers and released them later with warning. However, the harassment continues as more than a hundred military intelligence personnel are deployed to ‘investigate’ the incident. Civilian movement was curbed to prevent the news reaching outside.

Similar incidents of SL military making Tamils to look upon the Sinhalese as ‘sacred cows’ has become a matter of routine in the country of Eezham Tamils.

Recently, when a small accident took place at Paranthan Junction between a bus that was coming from Mullaiththeevu with Tamil passengers and a bus that was taking Sinhala tourists visiting Puthumaaththa'lan, the SLA blamed the Tamil side and attacked all the passengers in the bus.

People in Vanni are enraged at the attitude and behaviour of the visiting relatives of the occupying Sinhala soldiers who flaunt an air of triumphalism.
