Israel airstrikes kill Hamas military commander

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) began on Wednesday a heavy bombardment of the Gaza strip with a targeted airstrike, killing Hamas military commander Ahmad al-Jabari and a passenger in his vehicle. The IDF cited his involvement in the hostage-taking of Gilad Shalit, an episode in the 2006 war on Lebanon, as its justification. Israel's "Operation Pillar of Cloud" signals the largest escalation in the conflict since 2008-9 Gaza invasions. “This name invokes the Hebrew nation's biblical pre-history - much as Sinhala-Buddhist nationalism conjures the Mahavamsa as an ideological tool in it’s very modern state military strategy,” comments Lorenzo Fiorito, an activist working with solidarity groups in Canada. “The present Gaza offensive has little to do with the individuals it has killed or with millenia-old founding myths - it has to do with the Palestinian claim to statehood,” he adds.

Within the range of Israeli public opinion, there are many explanations for the heavy assault. Israeli authorities point to a personal "revenge" motive in assassinating al-Jabari. The army lists Hamas rocket fire as deserving of retaliation. The Yeshiva World News blog reports, however, that Minister of Public Security Yitzchak Aharonovich stated Gazan rocket fire following the assassination was within the expected range of response.

For its part, Israeli daily Ha'aretz describes "another showy military action initiated by an outgoing government on the eve of an election....The external conflict helps a government strengthen its standing domestically because the public unites behind the army, and social and economic problems are edged off the national agenda." Economic questions have mobilized Israelis in mass civil disobedience against the present government over the last year.

The Ha'aretz column also pronounces the end of Ehud Olmert's electoral aspirations; he had been expected to announce his candidacy to supporters yesterday evening. Olmert presided over the last invasion of Gaza; that move presaged his electoral defeat.

Yet even this "left" interpretation of the Gaza bombings falls short. Though Operation Pillar of Cloud was synchronized to these domestic considerations, the relevant issue is that one week ago, the Palestinian Authority circulated a draft resolution at the United Nations General Assembly to consider Palestine an "observer state."

Palestinian officials considered the likely outcome to be 115 "Yes" votes against approximately 22 "No" votes, with 56 abstentions. Such a vote would implicitly recognize Palestinian statehood. The US and Israel then implied that retaliatory measures might be taken.

With the present military operation underway against Gaza, Israel has publicly mused over the likelihood of overthrowing West Bank-based Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, if he continues with his plan to present the resolution to the UN General Assembly. According to Reuters, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz told Israel Radio that "the diplomatic onslaught by (Abbas) is a strategic threat no less severe than (Hamas's) rockets. I am not in favor of crushing the Palestinian Authority but if there is no choice and it could unilaterally turn into a state that threatens Israel, we should not be afraid of tough steps."

Ironically, Israel's current threats might reinforce Abbas' public standing, while weakening his ability to act at the UN. Hamas official Salah Al-Bardaweel has also called for the overthrow of Abbas as a traitor to nationalist objectives. Abbas recently took a severe blow to his credibility among Palestinians by abdicating his own "right to return."

Commenting on this situation, Mr. Fiorito argues that “Tamils will find all of this painfully familiar - the blindness of ruling-nation progressives to their plight, the indiscriminate targeting of civilians as military authorities advise them to stay away from possible bombardment targets, the behind-the-scenes machinations among power brokers.”

“There is an important distinction, however. As the neighbouring Syrian conflict has become a focus for world powers, Russia's recent interest in the investigation into Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's death may signal a possible geo-political realignment, of the kind absent for Tamils in 2009.”

“Palestinian self-determination is the key ingredient in Middle East politics today. The strategies employed against it, and the successes it may find at the UN, will both determine a great deal for the future of the Middle East and the course of world history,” he told TamilNet.

Amnesty International delegates met family of Palestinian on hunger strike against his detention without trial in Israel
When we arrived in Gaza on 13 June, Mahmoud al-Sarsak had been on hunger strike for more than 91 days. Soon after our entry we headed south, to Rafah, where Mahmoud’s family lives.
In the main square in Rafah stood the tent erected to show solidarity with Mahmoud; activists have painted a large mural on one side and put pictures of him all around the square.
Our arrival was followed by that of the youth football team that had won a competition held in support of Mahmoud. They were greeted with cheers.
The square was bustling with the noise of cars, people speaking, kids playing, and Palestinian songs blasting from the speakers set up by the activists.
In the midst of it all Mahmoud’s family were sitting next to each other. Their silence was overwhelming, almost deafening.
We approached the family and arranged to speak with them at the nearby office of the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights.
On the way we asked Mahmoud’s brother Imad about the last time he had heard from his sibling, and he told us about a letter he’d received.
“It was devastating,” he said, “I could not finish reading it. My young brother was describing his death to me; he was asking me to do certain things when we receive him back as a dead body. I could not finish reading it, and I promised myself not to talk about it to anyone. You are the first one I mention this to. I am not sure why I am doing this now.”
The family has had no direct contact with Mahmoud since he began his hunger strike on 16 March. They, as other families from Gaza, are prohibited from visiting their son in the Israeli prison. Since his arrest in 2009, the family have been able to speak with him only a few times over the phone.
In the office the family told us about their son before the arrest. They described a young man with large ambitions who travelled to Norway, Iraq, Kuwait, and Iran to play with the Palestinian national football team. The family talked about the prizes that Mahmoud had won, how international football coaches and players praised his talent, the offers he received, and how he was realizing his dream by becoming a professional football player.
“He was the youngest player on the national team,” his mother says proudly. For the first time we can see a hint of a smile on her face. But that quickly disappears. “He was travelling to the West Bank where a football club had contracted him when the Israelis arrested him. He has been locked up for more than three years for absolutely no reason. Now he is dying, and we are dying each day a thousand times with him.”
At some point during the conversation Imad broke down and left the room to wash his face. We decided to wrap it up and give them some space; it was turning dark and it had obviously been another long and difficult day for this family whose son has decided to protest the injustice Israel has imposed on him.
But we had to ask one more question, we wanted to know what the family wants from the international community and what they think they could do.
“We want to thank you all. Everyone who is standing with Mahmoud now and campaigning for his cause. We thank them and ask that they continue the pressure, especially people in Western countries, they can demand that their governments save Mahmoud. There is no time left.”
We said goodbye and returned to the square again. Most people have left and only a handful of the activists organizing the activities are still there. Solidarity for this day is done, but the family’s agony grows and Mahmoud is ever closer to death.
There is no time left indeed and Israel must do the right thing now and admit Mahmoud to a hospital to save his life or release him immediately to receive the appropriate medical care.

   Im from vancouver,canada and i wanted to say Mahmoud Sarsak got the support of the majority of the people in the world.He should be released immediately and given medical treatment.The israeli gov.needs to be condemned by all govs.of the world for this outragous crime against Mahmoud Sarsak.

அண்மையில் பலஸ்தீன அதிபர் அப்பாசுடன் கொழும்பு வந்திருந்த பலஸ்தீன வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சருடன் இணைந்து சிறிலங்கா வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் ஜி.எல்.பீரிஸ் செய்தியாளர்களைச் சந்தித்தார்.

சிறிலங்கா வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் பீரிசின் இவ்வாறு கூறியதும் பலஸ்தீன வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சர் மற்றும் தூதுவரின் முகம்கள் சிவந்தன.
ஒன்றுக்கு இரண்டு முறை இஸ்ரேல் என்று அடுத்தடுத்து பீரிஸ் கூறியது அவர்களுக்கு அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியது.

ஆனால், பீரிஸ் மிகச் சாதாரணமாக “மன்னிக்கவும்“ என்று கூறிவிட்டுத் தொடர்ந்து பேசினார்.

ஜெருசலேம், அக். 7: வாகன நெரிசலிலிருந்து மின்சாரம் தயாரிக்கும் முன்னோடி கண்டுபிடிப்பை இஸ்ரேல் நிறுவனம் உருவாக்கியுள்ளது. இந்தத் திட்டத்தை நகரத்தில் வாகன நெரிசல் உள்ள பகுதிகளில் செயல்படுத்த இஸ்ரேல் அரசு திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. ஜெனரேட்டர் மூலம் மின்சாரம் உற்பத்தியாகும். ஜெனரேட்டரை இயக்குவதற்குத் தேவையான சக்தி சாலைகளில் பதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள தளங்களிலிருந்து கிடைக்கும் வகையில் இந்த சாதனம் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொரு ஜெனரேட்டரும் மணிக்கு 2,000 வாட்ஸ் உற்பத்தி செய்யும் திறன் கொண்டதாகும். இவ்விதம் உற்பத்தி செய்யும் மின்சாரம் சாலையோரத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்ட பேட்டரிகளில் சேமிக்கப்பட்டு பின்னர் பயன்படுத்தப்படும். இந்த முன்னேறிய தொழில்நுட்பத்தை டெக்னியான் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் இஸ்ரேலிய நிறுவனம் இன்னோவாடெக் உருவாக்கியுள்ளது. 10 மீட்டர் நீளத்துக்கு தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலையில் சோதனை ரீதியில் இந்தக் கருவி பொறுத்தப்பட்டு சோதித்து பார்க்கப்பட்டது. அந்தப் பகுதியை வாகனங்கள் கடந்தபோது மின்சாரம் உற்பத்தியானது. இதில் உற்பத்தியாகும் மின்சாரம் மூலம் தெரு விளக்குகளை எரியச் செய்ய முடியும். சாலையின் கீழ் இக்கருவி பொருத்தப்பட்டது. 2 அங்குலம் கீழாக அமைக்கப்பட்ட இந்தக் கருவியின் மேல்பகுதியில் கார்கள் உள்ளிட்ட வாகனங்கள் செல்லும்போது மின்சாரம் உருவாகும். பிúஸôஎலெக்ட்ரிக் கருவிகள் மூலம் இந்தக் கருவி வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டதாக நிறுவனத்தின் மேலாளர் டாக்டர் லகி எட்ரி-அúஸôலே கூறினார். ஒரு கி.மீ. தூரத்துக்கு ஒரு வழித் தடத்தில் இக்கருவியைப் பொறுத்திப் பார்த்ததில் 200 கிலோவாட் மின்சாரம் உற்பத்தியானதாக அவர் கூறினார். இங்கு உற்பத்தியாகும் மின்சாரம் மூலம் 2,500 வீடுகளுக்கு மின்சாரம் சப்ளை செய்ய முடியும். இவ்விதம் உற்பத்தியாகும் மின்சாரம் மூலம் தெருவிளக்குகள் மட்டுமின்றி, டிராஃபிக் சிக்னல், சாலை விதிகளை மீறுவோரைக் கண்காணிக்கும் கேமரா உள்ளிட்டவை செயல்பட இந்த மின்சாரம் போதுமானதாக இருக்கும். வெயில், மழை, குளிர் உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்து தட்ப வெப்ப நிலையிலும் இது செயல்படும். இதற்கென மிகப் பெரிய அளவில் கட்டுமானம் தேவையில்லை என்றும் அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

சென்னை, ஆக. 12: சென்னையின் குடிநீர் தேவையைப் பூர்த்தி செய்யவும், விவசாயத்தில் மிகப்பெரிய மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்தவும் தமிழகத்துடன் இணைந்து செயல்பட இஸ்ரேல் விரும்புவதாக, அந்த நாட்டின் இந்தியத் தூதர் மார்க் சோஃபர் "தினமணி'க்கு அளித்த சிறப்புப் பேட்டியில் கூறினார். சமீபத்தில் சென்னை வந்திருந்த மார்க் சோஃபர், தமிழக அரசின் உயர் அதிகாரிகள் மற்றும் அமைச்சர்களை சந்தித்து இதுபற்றி விவாதித்தாகவும் தெரிவித்தார். ""சர்வதேச அளவில் நீர் மேலாண்மையில் இஸ்ரேல் முதலிடம் வகிக்கிறது. பாலைவனமாக இருந்த எங்கள் நாட்டை இப்போது சோலைவனமாக்கி இருக்கிறோம் என்பது மட்டுமல்ல நீரை சேமித்தல், நீரை பயன்படுத்தல் போன்ற விஷயங்களில் உலக அரங்கில் எங்களது தொழில்நுட்பம்தான் முதலிடம் வகிக்கிறது. அதைப்போல, கடல்நீரைக் குடிநீராக்கும் தொழில்நுட்பத்திலும் முதலிடம் வகிப்பது இஸ்ரேல்தான்'' என்று கூறிய மார்க் சோஃபர், சென்னை நகரத்தின் குடிநீர்த் தேவையை முழுவதுமாக எதிர்கொள்ள கடல்நீர் சுத்திகரிப்புதான் சிறந்த வழி என்று கருத்துத் தெரிவித்தார். கருத்துக்கள்

கிறித்து பிறப்பிற்கு முன்பு இந்தியா என்றே ஓர் அமைப்பே இல்லை. அப்பொழுது உலக நாடுகளுடன் உறவுகொ்ணடிருந்தது தமிழகம்தான். இன்றைய இந்தியா பாலசுதீனத்திற்கு ஆதரவு நாடு என்னும் பொழுது வெறி பிடித்த இசுரேலுக்கு எதிர் என்றுதான் பொருள். ஆனால், தமிழினத்தை ஒழிக்கும் சிங்களத்தின் கூட்டாளிகள் என்ற முறையில் நட்பு நாடுகளாக விளங்குகின்றன. நாடற்ற தங்களுக்கு நாடு கேட்டுப் போராடி வெற்றி கண்ட இசுரேலியர் நாட்டு உரிமையை இழந்த தமிழர்கள் பக்கம்தான் நின்றிருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், தனக்கொரு நீதி, பிறர்க்கொரு நீதி என்பதே அனைவரும் பின்பற்றும் கொள்கையான இருப்பதால் சிங்களத்திற்குத் துணை நிற்கின்றது. 100 பொதுமக்களைக் கொன்றால் அதில் ஒருவன் போராளியாக இருப்பான் என்று அரச வன்முறையைத் தூண்டி விட்டதுடன் பயங்கர ஆயுதங்களையும் முறைகேடான போர் முறைகளையும் சிங்களத்திற்குக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்ததே இசுரேல்தான். எனவே, கொலைகார நாட்டைக் கொலைகார நாடாகவே பார்ப்போம். அதன் ஏமாற்று வலையில் சிக்க வேண்டா.

Islam or Jews or Hindus or christianity or any other religion are againg terroism or any other hate speach. I have been reading from newspapers or any other media always agains muslim and i am not sure why these people after them. Just for your info that Jews are occupied Muslim land and Muslin Occupied Jew's land. Jew are killing women and children and innocent people. Jew's are bombing schools and hospitals. Please my friends in south India we (Hindus and Muslim) are living peacefully and like brother. please don't hurt others. We are all one happy family and we are the one dividing ourselves by the name of religion. please don't post any bad comments or discuss. Please give some respect. We hindu's do not know more about Islam but my muslim freinds know more about hinduism( Ramayanam and Mahabharath).

Jews were without country and spreaded around the world. Europeans did not give their land and created the Isreali nation. Dear Readers. The present Isreal is the place where the Jews (Hebrews) lived before the birth of christianity and Islam. The jews were driven out from their place by christians first and after the advent of Islam by the muslims. Thus for centuries together, jews were statless. On seeing the plight of the Jews, United Nations in 1948 created a nation with small territory and that is present Isreal. It is Islamic fanatics who create problem to Isreal but the jews who are real hard core patriots stoutly resist and defuse their plans.
