Switzerland misleads, terminology counts: Prof Boyle

Switzerland misleads, terminology counts: Prof Boyle

"The Swiss have no credibility whatsoever when it comes to Tamil Eelam and the Eelam Tamils. Under the circumstances of ongoing GOSL genocide, ‘terminology’ means everything if we want to survive,” responded Professor Francis Boyle to the current Switzerland involved ‘deliberations’ that have taken place in Jaffna earlier this week. “At the end of the day, the Swiss will sell us out to the GOSL once again," Professor Boyle, who is an expert in International Law and who teaches at the University of Illinois College of Law, warned Eezham Tamils. He was also noting the Swiss history of supporting Sri Lanka's crimes, especially pointing out the Swiss sponsored a UN resolution which "congratulated" Sri Lanka as the State killed tens of thousands of Tamil civilians in the final phases of 2009 war.

Professor Boyle's comment on the Swiss statement follows:

"The Eelam Tamils must not listen to the Swiss. They have already abandoned and betrayed us to the Fate of Genocide at the bloody hands of the GOSL. They are doing so again.

"The Swiss have no credibility whatsoever when it comes to Tamil Eelam and the Eelam Tamils. Under the circumstances of ongoing GOSL genocide, “terminology” means everything if we want to survive.

"To the best of my knowledge, the Swiss have not used the word “genocide” to condemn what the GOSL has done to the Eelam Tamils. The Swiss are good for nothing! At the end of the day, the Swiss will sell us out to the GOSL once again," Professor Boyle wrote.

Meanwhile, commenting on ‘terminology’, there is no justification for the international community fearing and yielding in to the genocidal State in Colombo, said Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

‘Cultural identity’ is fundamental for any meaningful development is what the culture and development theory coming from the West itself, says.

Without identity in nation, land and the exercise of power, cultural identity is not possible. Psychological equality of nations could come only through equality in terminology.

The terminology ‘vertical’ itself, promoted by Professor Eva Maria Belser, is another way of imposing unitary State and is not doing justice to the parallel context of nations in the island, the activists further said.

The 2009 Switzerland sponsored resolution to the U.N. Human Rights Council, had earlier prompted Professor Boyle to comment that Swiss action would be the same “as if the U.N. had invited the Nazi government to investigate and prosecute itself for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes against the Jews instead of supporting the Nuremberg Charter and Tribunal."

Boyle was irked earlier by the action of the Swiss on the resolution to add, “[t]he glaring hypocrisy and blatant sophistry of the Swiss Resolution is heightened by the fact that Switzerland is the Depositary for the Four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Two Additional Protocols of 1977 and therefore bears special obligation under international law to promote, guarantee and ensure their effective enforcement rather than their negation and nullification, which this Swiss Resolution will do. Obviously, Switzerland knows exactly what it is doing. The same is true for the 25 other state Co-Sponsors of the Swiss Resolution."

The Swiss government and allied NGOs have demonstrated their willingness to support the international community to whitewash a possible genocide. This practice continues to this day as in September 2015 the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and Swiss Peace [NGO] participated in a meeting organized by an NGO outfit to soften the Tamil call for international investigations on Sri Lanka genocide.

Also, on the matter of asylum seekers and refugees, Switzerland with predictable self-interest, had appeared to support the view that ‘Sri Lankan’ rights record has improved vis-a-vis Tamils.
