Tamil fishermen in Mullaiththeevu have vowed to step up protest campaign till Sri Lankan Fisheries Minister, his representative or the SL Government Agent of the district meet them and assure that no southern fishermen would be allowed into Mullaiththeevu for fishing.

Mullaiththeevu town was paralysed on Wednesday last week due to one day hartal in support of the fast unto death campaign by three Tamil fishermen against southern Sinhala fishermen being allowed to fish in the seas off Mullaiththeevu with the support of the occupying Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy.

Three Tamil fishermen of Mullaiththeevu began their fast unto death on Monday in front of the District Secretariat.

To give moral support to the fasting campaign traders of Mullaiththeevu closed down their business establishments and observed full day hartal on Wednesday last week.
