Congress parliamentarian invokes zombie of Indo-Lanka Accord

“We believe that discussing the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord (1987) to be a proper solution to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka will be beneficial to the Sri Lankan Tamil People,” says Sonia-led Congress parliamentarian from Tamil Nadu, Dr E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, who convenes ‘Sri Lankan Tamil Leaders’ Conference 2013 in New Delhi, from 5th to 6th June. Saying that the conference is a follow up of the 2011 New Delhi meet of 8 Tamil political parties, including 5 parliamentarians from the island, Natchiappan this time has also invited “leaders from the diaspora Tamil community and the leaders from the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in India […] to discuss strengthening and fully implementing the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord (1987).” Natchiappan recently visited London.

The conference is convened by Natchiappan, as President of the Parliamentarian Forum on Human Rights for Global Development. Mr Seevaratnam Vaseekaran is named in the invitation as Event Secretary.

A former militant outfit ENDLF, created by New Delhi’s intelligence and is operating in India, fully backs the conference, informed sources said.

The outfit is critical of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for not fully cooperating in proclaiming acceptance of the 13th Amendment during the 2011 Natchiappan conference, the sources further said.

During the 2011 conference, the convenor Dr Natchiappan was seen insinuating the participants to resolve acceptance of the 13th Amendment. The move failed as TNPF delegates Mr. Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and Mr. S. Kajendren were firm in not falling into the trap and the TNA had to follow suit.

Dr Natchiappan painted a success story of the 2011 “Agony and Solace” conference, in the present invitation to the 2013 deliberations. He said the earlier conference followed India voting in favour [at Geneva] to implement the LLRC report, the 13th Amendment of the Sri Lankan constitution and equal rights of ethnic Tamils living in Sri Lanka and rehabilitation of IDP and refugees accommodated in various countries.”

Claiming that his earlier conference showed to the world that the Tamil parties are united, Natchiappan twisted the national cause of Eezham Tamils as the participants “impressed upon the Indian political parties on their struggle to achieve equal rights.”

An Indian parliamentary debate, visit of parliamentary delegation to IDP camps, dialogue in the SL parliament and direct meeting of the Indian delegation with the SL President were made on the basis of the 2011 conference, claimed the Sonia Congress parliamentarian.

In an unprecedented uprising of youth, independent of political parties, nearly 600,000 people took to streets in Tamil Nadu earlier this year against an empty US-India resolution at Geneva that didn’t recognize the nation of Eezham Tamils and the genocide faced by them, but was talking of LLRC implementation, provincial elections etc., in a unitary Sri Lankan State.

The uprising made the Tamil Nadu State Assembly to unanimously resolve on 27 March, urging the UN to conduct a referendum among Eezham Tamils in the island as well as in the diaspora on the question of Separate Eezham.

If the Sonia-led Congress Party parliamentarian from Tamils Nadu is still bent on thrusting the Indo-Lanka Accord and the 13th Amendment that maintains the unitary character of the genocidal Sinhala State, on Tamil leaders in the island, in the diaspora and in the Tamil Nadu refugee camps (which are strictly under the grip of New Delhi’s intelligence), with the backing of Indian intelligence operated outfits, then it has to be viewed very seriously by Tamils all over the world, commented Eezham Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

Many Tamils have started believing that the on-going structural genocide, accelerated militarization, Sinhala colonization and overnight demographic genocide in the North and East are conducted, not only by the Sinhala State but also by New Delhi and Washington.

New Delhi particularly backs the process of Colombo’s structural genocide of the Tamil nation, and from time to time weakens further any other international efforts such as the Geneva resolutions, in order to make Eezham Tamils helpless and to intimidate them to accept the 13th Amendment, the Tamil activists in the island said.

If the Congress party continues to be adamant in upholding the genocidal unity of State in the island, Tamil Nadu polity may have to work in unison towards initiating war crimes investigation in India itself, against all those who were responsible in the New Delhi Establishment for the genocidal crimes committed in the island. Such a move, if possible with a change of government in New Delhi, would inspire the entire world and humanity. Only such efforts would stop erring Establishments treading on humanity, the Tamil activists in the island further said.

TNA parliamentarian, university students question ‘reconciliation’

Following atrocities committed on the Jaffna university students by occupying Sri Lanka’s military intelligence and police on Tuesday and Wednesday, TNA parliamentarian Mr. E. Saravanabhavan questioned the validity of the so-called reconciliation process when Sri Lanka’s military and police consider the Jaffna University students as enemies. The current developments remind of the situation 30 years back that paved way for the subsequent struggle, the parliamentarian said in a video address to media. Meanwhile student representatives addressing the university students on Wednesday, while condemning the genocidal military of Sri Lanka, asked where to lodge complaint except to the International Community.



A military should observe certain norms. But this [SL military] is a genocidal military that steps on norms with its boots. They entered the gents’ hostel like they were seizing an enemy position. They sent the paramilitary without uniforms inside the ladies hostel to show guts while we were paying homage to our fallen heroes, a student representative said while addressing the students on Wednesday.

“What we need is not carpet roads, telecommunication towers, dance shows of half-naked women and cricket matches, but the right of self-determination for us,” the representative said.

“What we always have in our heart is humanitarian consideration. We had a chance to express it on Tuesday [homage to fallen heroes].”

We have a duty to honour the heroes fought for our land. We were oppressed from doing so in the last three years as well as this year. We will wage our struggle by democratic means, he further said.

Another student representative, speaking on Wednesday, said that the university administration falsely claims that the military entered the hostels and attacked the students without its knowledge. Then why should there be a Vice Chancellor. Let them bring an SL soldier on the street and put him on the seat of the Vice Chancellor, the student representative said.

Where can we complain? There is nobody here in Jaffna for us to complain. Only the International Community should do something, the student representative said.

Speaking to media, TNA parliamentarian Saravanabhavan identified the issue as one that questioning the workability of reconciliation, as long as the SL military and police treat the Tamil people and students as their enemies.

What happened in the Jaffna University on Tuesday and Wednesday had pushed back reconciliation by five years. Whatever that had been achieved is lost. There is no doubt that the military will behave in the same way even when we oblige to ‘accept whatever that is given’ formula. The behaviour will be the same in the South too, the parliamentarian said.

When democratic struggles are oppressed by the military that means that the time has come for all sections of people to question the oppressing military, he further said.

A new generation political activist in Jaffna, commenting on the events at the Jaffna University said that it is only a typical evidence showing that the paradigm of ‘reconciliation’ designed by Washington and New Delhi is nothing but another word for prolonged genocide.

Section of UK parliamentarians steadily buttress genocidal Sri Lanka

After laying foundation for the transformation of colonial Ceylon into genocidal Sri Lanka, and after playing an articulated role in the US-India architected genocidal war against Eezham Tamils, citing in the UN that the LTTE was “long blighting” State in the island, a particular section of the UK parliamentarians steadily buttress the Sinhala State, accused Tamil political activists in Jaffna, calling a statement made by the visiting 9-member team of UK parliamentarians in Jaffna last Thursday as absurd. The team, mainly of Conservative members, told media in Jaffna that Tamils should settle matters internally and should not seek international solutions. Liam Fox’s genes stealthily continue in the UK parliament to perpetuate genocidal Colombo by disguising subjugation as internal solution after waging a war internationally, the activists said.

In recent times, batch after batch of UK parliamentarians visit the island and Jaffna. They come as pampered guests of the Rajapaksa regime. SL government outfits invite them. After every visit they steadily make statements to buttress the genocidal state and regime in the island. They lie to the world outside and try to blunt the international struggle of Eezham Tamils, commented some members of the Jaffna Chamber of Commerce.

Whatever their orientation may be, when we met them we tried to brief them of the true situation. We tried to convince them that development doesn’t mean the A9 Highway, said a member of the Chamber.

The UK team of 8 Conservative parliamentarians and one DUP member from North Ireland, led by James Wharton, Conservative MP for Stockton South, met Rajapaksa at his Kandy residence before visiting Jaffna, Ki’linochchi, the East and other parts of the island.

They also met the Rajapaksa associates, GL Peiris, Lalith Weeratunga, Kekeliya Rambukwla, Sarath Amunugama, Aluthgamage and J.B. Dissanayake.

The following were the members visited Jaffna:

James Wharton (Conservative, Stockton South), Mark Menzies (Conservative, Fylde), Andrew Stephenson (Conservative, Pendle), Aiden Burley (Conservative, Connock Chase), Conor Burns (Conservative, Bournemouth West), David Morris (Conservative, Morecambe and Lunesdale), Bob Blackman (Conservative, Harrow East), Nicola Blackman and Ian Paisley (Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland, North Antrim).

Unconfirmed reports said that the team arriving in Jaffna by an SL Air Force flight met officials of the occupying Sinhala Army at Palaali.

Later, reaching the Jaffna Central College grounds by SL military helicopter, they were made to wait inside the helicopter for half an hour, as there was no one to receive them due to clumsy arrangements. Mr. Sundaram Arumainayakam, SL Government Agent In Jaffna who rushed to the scene received them and made arrangements for their transportation.

The team went to see the unfinished housing scheme at Ariyaalai, which was started by New Delhi and was left in an ugly state. It was there the team told media not to expect outside solutions but to find internal ones.

The UK government, tagged behind the US, is engaged in a number of situations across the world in finding international solutions ranging from diplomatic positioning to the extent of directly waging war.

In the last more than 60 years since it handed over power to a Sinhala state in the island, the UK has neither acknowledged the genocide taking place in the island nor stood for solutions appropriate to chronic national questions.

After abetting the genocidal war, the UK government was actively involved in a ‘rehabilitation’ programme that left the former liberation fighters of Eezham Tamils to undergo all kinds of humiliation in the hands of the occupying Sinhala military.

The Conservative team’s statement denying international justice has caused much anger in Jaffna.

The diaspora Tamils in the UK, especially those who are tagged behind the different political parties, have a lot of homework to do, more than staging demonstrations to Rajapaksa. The elements to be addressed by the struggle are very much inside the UK, the activists in Jaffna said.
